the dreaming [open]
Characters: Tu Vishan and you!
Date: May 11th
Location: All over Keeliai.
Situation: Tu Vishan is attempting to reach out to the foreigner population, with... mixed results?
Warnings/Rating: Should be pretty tame. Will update if this changes.
Notes: This log is set at night, and characters are technically encountering him in their 'dreams'. He may or may not be exerting some subtle supernatural influence to make characters fall asleep, so if your character doesn't require sleep feel free to say he's done something to them. Technically, every creature in Tu Vishan would be sleeping during his little foray, so the streets are uncharacteristically empty.
This is not a predominantly plot-driven log. Tu Vishan is reaching out to people and may surrender plot details if the right questions are asked, but this is mostly part of his ongoing effort to become acquainted with people and the thread direction may stick solely to slice of life, depending on how your character chooses to direct it.
A character's 'dreamscape' should be shaped by their subconscious mind, so feel free to go wild with whatever you'd like. This includes details of their location and what their dream!selves might look like. Tu Vishan will appear to the characters as a young boy, between fourteen and sixteen years of age, and anyone he visits will have extremely peaceful dreams. It's considered a gift and a blessing to have been visited thusly by Tu Vishan, and one can expect good fortune in their futures if they are visited. Characters may also not remember perfect details of these dreams in the morning, or remember them at all. That much is up to you.
[The night is calm and still and on this night, Tu Vishan wanders.
He does not often take a form not his own, but there is a growing sense of unease in his shape, in his body, that he cannot escape. He knows it. He has felt his brethren sicken thus, and die. So for a time, when he can, he escapes. Like smoke, like a ghost, a breath, he escapes and he wanders.
The city is sleeping when he does so. He likes the cities at night, though the dimly flickering light of his shell is...
(Sad, he thinks)
--Inevitable.
He passes from house to house, between buildings and shadows. He listens.
'Keeliai' means 'Finality'. It is an irony he has never sought to correct. Instead, he stops at doors, on rooftops, in the empty rooms of old houses, and he thinks of all the lives scattered here. Small enough to be insignificant to him, but hardly that. He cannot so much as feel the patter of their movement across his back, but he is aware of each of them as a tiny heartbeat, an audible echo of life and hope.
When he finds a receptive mind, he will sometimes reach out and touch it gently. A calm, gentle reassurance. If they wish to speak with him, he is there.]

Oh, uh... Did we all wake you?
no subject
No. A boy - younger than you - thought he might try speaking with me.
no subject
[A pause, then.] You wouldn't happen to know why we're all getting pulled here, would you?
no subject
[He tucks his hands into his sleeves.]
You are here to combat a... nemesis.
no subject
...And why not just ask? I can't speak for the rest of us, but I would have been more than willing to help.
no subject
[And then, a weary sigh. He looks down.]
The Lady Emperor is... unaccustomed to asking for aid. I am not certain she knows how.
no subject
She seems like she has [a mighty big stick up her ass.] a lot on her mind. I can respect that she has a lot to worry about, but that's not the way to run things. All it leads to is resentment all around.
[Starts floating a few feet from the ground, growing restless.] Hey, have you ever been flying before?
no subject
[He sighs, in response to Mark's summation of the Emperor.]
I doubt she intends it. She simply does not understand how to... relate to other beings.
[And then a tilt of his head.]
I have flown, in other dreams. Would you like to?
no subject
She reminds me a lot of a guy I know back home. He drives me crazy, but I'm starting to realize he has everyone's best intentions... even if I don't agree with the way he does things. Could you maybe go into her dreams and talk to her, or does this only work on foreigners?
If you don't mind. I do some of my best thinking in the air.
no subject
[He nods, and steps 'up' into the air, hovering pleasantly. There's a sense of calm to the way he does it.]
The Lady Emperor and I speak quite often. But she is... stubborn.
[Which is putting it mildly.]
no subject
[Once he's up high enough, he just sort of glides on his back.]
For a turtle you seem pretty used to this.
Yeah, I got that feeling from what I've head, which is why I haven't gone to see her yet. Something tells I'd lose it.
no subject
[He's silent for a time, enjoying the freedom of being in the air.]
Do you think turtles, too, do not dream of flying?
[And then a low laugh.]
Don't. She has given more than you know to these people. And to me. She does mean well.
no subject
That's why she reminds me of Cecil. And I still fought him. Though to be fair he was trying to kill me back.
no subject
You are forgiven.
[Then, he moves a hand through the air in a slow gesture reminiscent of tai chi.]
Do you expect to have to fightt her?
no subject
[Mark frowns at the question, pulling himself into a seated position in mid-air.] I don't hope to, but some of the stories I've been hearing about her... I wouldn't be surprised if I'd be forced into a situation where I would. I mean, she brings us here to help--which I am totally cool with--but does it in such a way that just pisses most of us off, then she does nothing but antagonize everyone that tries to get a straight answer out of her about why we're here and whether or not we're really dead.
Or so I've heard. I've never gone to see her myself. I'm afraid I'd lose my tempter at her.
no subject
Peace. I dream of peace.
[Sometimes, he conflates peace with death, in his own mind.]
She can handle your temper, Mark. You should speak to her yourself and see what you can discover. If you would like, you can tell her I sent you personally.
no subject
You say that, but you don't really know me... no offense. Anger's in my DNA. ...So's world conquering, so it's probably best I stay away from world leaders...
no subject
[He can send peaceful dreams, it's well within his power to do so. And he doesn't mind.]
Oh? Should you not stay away from me also, then? I am the last of my kind. In some cultures, you could say I am King.
no subject
[Stares at his hands.]
Viltrumites don't do extinction. I don't think, anyway... I mean, there'd be nothing to conquer. Then again, if they didn't comply I don't see why they wouldn't kill everyone... [His brow furrows as he realizes how little he knows about his father's race.] How about you just say you submit to me on a technicality and we can move past the conquering? [He says it with a smile, but doesn't reach his eyes. The fact he's even remotely capable of doing such a thing scares him.]
ugh this got lost in the modbox for ages
[Asti tilts his head, and then with a graceful motion he sinks into a position of obeisance.]
Very well. I submit.
I will wait forever for Asti tags
[He breaks into a big grin.] I accept your surrender.
OH GOOD because that's exactly how long it might take oops
[He smiles a little, and rises in a motion that seems almost eerily fluid.]
Then what is your first decree as my new overlord?
I WILL WAIT THAT LONG!
[His smile finally fades when he thinks about manipulating his dream, to turn it into something he usually witnesses in a night.] Yeah, I can do that. I just... I want to show you what it is I usually dream before you go thinking about taking them from me.
[He closes his eyes and concentrates, trying to think of the one he had last night. It begins to play in front of them like a movie.
Mark's dream begins innocently enough. He is on his bed with his girlfriend, Eve; the pair kissing. Mark runs his hands through her red hair, mumbling between kisses that he missed her. He goes through the motion several times, the last time pausing when he feels something slick and wet. Slowly, he pulls his hand away and confirms what he had hoped was only his paranoia--it was covered in blood. Mark's eyes shoot open and stares into Eve's lifeless eyes, the pulse in his ears so loud it was deafening.
His eyes dart around the room, stopping on the person responsible, only his subconscious can't seem to settle on the rogue. It cycles through several: Angstrom Levy, one of the Mauler twins, Anissa, several of the evil Invincible's from alternate universes, General Kregg, Powerplex...it even briefly cycles through Cecil, Oliver, himself, and his father, before settling on Eve's true murderer--Conquest.
In a flash Mark is on him, suddenly in full Invincible costume (even if it was that damned black and blue one), unleashing a flurry of punches that would have shattered a normal man. Mark refuses to give the Viltrumite the upper hand, not again. He doesn't stop until his hands are slick and his costume is coated in a layer of blood; Conquest forever still and nearly indistinguishable beneath him.
Mark pulls his mask away as he steps backwards from the other man's lifeless body. Not again. He realizes for the first time he's no longer in his bedroom but in yet another destroyed city. Everywhere he looks are corpses, but not of strangers. No, instead he sees the lifeless forms of Eve, of his mother, of the Guardians, of Rex... He reels backwards until his back hit what was once a wall, and he slides down, screwing his eyes shut to try to block it all out.
Everyone's dead, and it's all his fault.]
/reaches for
He exerts a little of his own will, changing the quality of the dream. The sense of oppression and misery recedes, and Asti kneels down beside Mark, reaches out to put a hand on his shoulder and then, very gently, pulls him into a hug.]
