[OPEN EVENT] Weekend Winter Wonderland
Characters: All?
Date: March 8th-11th
Location: All of Keeliai
Situation: It's been a stressful month thus far for a lot of people, but Jack is determined to Make All The Happy and decides he needs to get back to his wintery roots by giving the city a proper snowing.
Warnings/Rating: People high on snow glitter?
NOTES: Actionspam OR prose, whatever is preferred! (Settings were just easier to prose.) Make your own thread headers if none of these suit! ♥
Jack had spent the last three hours balanced motionlessly on the top of a flagpole, head tilted back as he listened to the wind and the sound of the city below. Where is Winter? it asked. I'm here! the spirit replied, but he knew it didn't mean his physical presence. He'd had too much on his mind and too much in his heart and in that sense he had indeed been absent these last few weeks.
Eyes closed and thoughtlessly trusting, he tipped forward into open air, letting the wind catch him and hurl him upward into the misty cloud cover that scudded across the stars tonight. At his touch they thickened, fat and pale grey against the indigo backdrop and Jack swirled them up, the motions so ingrained in him they felt just like breathing. In the small hours of the morning snowflakes began to fall on the sleeping city, specks at first but then quickly becoming heavier.
Now with a fresh canvas to work with, Jack was really in his element. He could never have done something like this back home, not anywhere in his world. It would have been too strange, too inexplicable, drawn too much attention. But here on the turtle, things were different. There wasn't really a semblance of normal and Jack poured his imagination and heart into the things he wanted most to share, and from the snow rose gleaming swirls of snow and blue light, forming things of exceptional detail and delight.
By the time the sun rose, a solid three feet of the snow had blanketed the city, glistening and crisp and Jack went rocketing down the streets, rapping on doors and windows to leave spirals of frost on every surface.
"Whooohoo! Snow day! Get up sleepyheads, everyone come out and play!"

KIDS PLAYGROUND
A three masted schooner, replicate down to ice-roped rigging and a frozen flag that waved. An old locomotive whose wheels spun and which chugged out a cloud of snowflakes instead of steam. A castle with turrets and slides, wide and safe enough for children to climb and play on. A bi-plane whose propeller spun and somehow modified to fit a dozen pilots, to give the kids a chance to all "fly" together.
At the center of everything was a life-sized statue of the Guardians, every bit as accurate as if they were the people themselves: North, caught in the middle of one of his jolly laughs, large hands holding his belly. Bunnymund, a proud smile on his face as he cocked one of his boomerangs as though ready to play. Toothiana, sweet and playfully chiding one of them, the ice duplicates of her wings so thin they threw rainbows of light on the sculpted feathers, mimicking her actual coloration. And Sandman, arms outstretched and a peaceful smile on his face, ready to spread dream sand to everyone.
Jack touched down barefoot to the snow next to the statue, looking up at them. "Hey guys," he said, feeling simultaneously silly and better for talking to their representations. "I miss all of you. But we're gonna have some fun today, all right?"
Re: KIDS PLAYGROUND
The ice sculptures around the town, and the set pieces around the playground were familiar, and that brings a small smile to his face, though it was bittersweet. He was being reminded of home, where he wasn't anymore, and it didn't matter that the entire scene was reminding him of Jack's usual antics on a larger scale. He wonders if this is some kind of winter festival the city puts on, even though the kedan seemed just as surprised at the winter wonderland.
And then he stumbles into the center of the snowy playground and ends up face to face with... himself, along with the other Guardians. His amusement fades into something more hopeful. He knew he recognized the craftsmanship, he just didn't want to hope on something he thought was completely unlikely, but here it was staring him right in the face.
"Jack," He whispers under his breath, ears perked and nose twitching as he tries to find the boy in his surroundings. "You're here, aren't you?"
no subject
But when he saw there was not one Bunnymund but two in the playground -- one of ice and one decidedly not -- he just about fell into his own snowdrifts. Bare feet finding purchase light enough to barely dent the snow though undoubtedly enough for the pooka's legendary hearing to pick up, Jack took a few hesitant, stunned steps towards him.
"Bunny?"
no subject
Once he hears light footsteps on snow, even though he hasn't turned yet, he knows that it's Jack, and he can't help but feel relieved that he might not be alone in this whole situation.
Just because he feels that way doesn't mean that he's going any easier on Jack though, but the way the young Guardian is approaching him seems... off. "You're getting this all out of your system now before Easter, right?" He looks over his shoulder at Jack, trying to cover up his own surprise and relief with a small, amused smile. "You look like you're seeing a ghost, mate."
no subject
And then it sunk in, and Jack launched himself at the other Guardian with a happy whoop, laughing and excited.
"You're here!"
no subject
Of course, that only lasts so long before he's catching Jack unexpectedly, and the surprise along with the icy spirit's momentum is enough to make him fall backward into the snow. "Course I'm here. Where else would I be right now?" You know, besides anywhere else on Earth. "Now, where are the others? Once we find them, we can get off this crazy ride."
no subject
Jack looks down at the pooka, surprise and worry tempering his joy at finding his friend. "The others aren't here. It's been just me since December and... we can't leave. Believe me, I've tried and so have a lot of people."
no subject
Then again, having Easter coming around again so soon was just another strange thing about all this, but Bunny just didn't know how to wrap his head around this easily. He'd lost all that time somewhere.
"We can worry about that later," Bunny offers, ruffling Jack's hair and sitting up finally. "We're really stuck here, then?"
no subject
"Pretty much everything the kedan told you would have been true, but they're good at leaving things out. I can fill you in but it might take a while. Where did they say you were to be staying?"
no subject
He's a bit distracted though, because now that Jack isn't right on top of him, he can finally get a good look at the young Guardian, and even if they were mostly healed, the way Jack behaves isn't missed. "What happened to you, Jack?"
no subject
But the latter question prompts a self-conscious shrug, turning his face to the side. "Oh, nothing. Just, um, got too close to a fire cracker. You know those little sparkler ones that the kids play with."
no subject
His eyes narrow just a little bit when Jack answers his question, and while he isn't so sure that's the whole story, he doesn't want to pry too much. He's trying to move with Jack though, wanting a better look.
no subject
"Wait until you meet the others!" he enthused. "It's amazing, there a plenty of adults that can see us, not just the kids. But oh man, the kedan kids are adorable, you're gonna love them."
no subject
He lets it go once Jack hops to his feet though and covers up the scar, putting the smile back on his face to meet Jack's enthusiasm, and eventually he gets up as well, brushing the snow off and giving one last look at the Guardian sculptures before looking back to Frost. "I wanted to ask you about that too, mate. We're believed in here, by the kedan?"
no subject
He's so happy he can't even keep track of his words.

Basically he couldn't be happier.]

[A statement that, under ordinary circumstances, he probably wouldn't make. But as it is, he plucks one of the snowballs from a pile in the plane and chucks it back at Dorian.]
no subject
[Dorian has the look of an indignant cat when he gets a snowball.] Hey! It isn't very sporting to pick on a smaller nation.
[While he's being indignant, he is dodging back behind cover, all the better to attack Steve and his kedan army.]

It's not the kedan that's so strange to her, really - it's the playground itself. This is the sort of place that her world abandoned long before she was old enough to play on them. Some were torn down, others destroyed in the fires of decontamination; some of them are still standing, sad skeletons preserved for no reason Georgia could ever understand. All she can think staring at this is the kind of carnage that went on at schools and playgrounds just like this, how this is the perfect place to spread the infection or start an outbreak and God, she hopes she's not wrong about the kedan being immune.
...the snow is, quite obviously, not doing anything to improve her general pessimism. ]

Not really. People just don't do... things like this... where I'm from. It's weird, that's all. [ She pauses, her expression somewhere between a smile and a grimace. ] Among the many, many weird things here...

Uh-oh, have I got competition for the kids' attention?

[ He hops lightly off the plane wing and down to the snow, though he seems to walk more on it than through it. ]
