Closed | Malicant Event | Teams 10 - 12
Characters: Team 10 (Jason Grace, Amaterasu, Carol Danvers, Marius Pontmercy, Johnny Storm), Team 11 (Natasha Romanoff, Dinah Lance, Liz Allan, Namorita, Toro Raymond), Team 12 (Peggy Carter, Jaime Reyes, Westly, Johan Gustav Dååhd, Cinna)
Date: June 25th - July 13th
Location: Keeliai (various locations)
Situation: Evandau put out the call for help against the great and powerful Oz. Malicant. Ozicant. There are the next three teams to be assembled
Warnings/Rating:
Please include content warnings in subject headers.
The police force has a series of leads they need the Foreigners to follow-up on that may (or may not) relate to the entity known as Malicant. Teams 10, 11, and 12 are mobilised now. See the threads in this post for details and contact Alex (
reignsdown or the mod account) if you have any questions.
Note: A variety of the options indicate that players can create kedan to fill plot needs in terms of questioning and what have you. These kedan are plot-specific and would not count in the rule-of-tens for NPCs (unless they were referred to after the event; but that is future and this is now).

SET 01
Each member of the team is provided a file with English transcriptions of Xi's great grandson's affidavit explaining the situation of his eviction from the Wood Sector. The summary is thus: Xaion received an eviction notice with one week's deadline to remove his family and possessions from the premises. The justification given was that the roots of the multi-thousand year old tree that the house had been carved into were rotted and an engineer’s report was included (a copy in each file) that state as much. Xaion insists that he checked the roots himself as there were many floors build around the root system for storage and living, but saw no signs of this supposed rot. When he refused to leave, a team of kedan appeared and bodily removed himself, his husband, and their three children, then placed their possessions into boxes and removed them similarly. Assessments conducted within the past fifty years covering the condition of the six houses that have been subject to eviction are included and show only minor wear; each tree maintained a healthy growth of foliage. These houses are some of the oldest in the Wood Sector and their roots descend the deepest, with local folklore saying that they draw life directly from the blood of the turtle. Profiles of the known evicted families show no pattern to appearance, chosen gender distribution, or presence of children, only the location link. Two of the evicted families later received a thousand juulan apiece for "their troubles" as rumour on the streets state and have each set up new homes in the Earth Sector -- this time, they own the property.
Options:
A
Question the six ousted families about the circumstances of their eviction. Players can create names, attitudes, and new locations for these families as suited to fit the plot/threads. Xaion and his family are first to volunteer information, recounting a story consistent with the affidavit shared in the files; the patriarchs are both angry at being displaced and are quick to finger gangs needing it for drug or weapons trafficking and storage. The three other families that showed resistance answer questions to the best of their abilities, but do not know why their homes were needed. One, if pressed, would echo a faint suspicion that the deep roots of the tree provide for many cavernous spaces -- a fact that they had modelled their business on, subletting these spaces as storage. The two families that accepted the eviction would be reluctant to speak with the Foreigners, stating that it had been a matter of business on the part of the building owners and they had no hard feelings over it. If pressed, one family would close the door on their faces and the other would crack, saying that they had been threatened to take the eviction and the money that came in was a silence payment -- and that they were due two more. They'd only overheard talk about how old the trees were and that they got a direct line with these houses, but the kedan have no idea what this means. Returning to the other compensated family afterwards would allow them to witness a silence payment being handed over.
Exact results for specific questions asked (if included in the team's final decision) and the outcome of the witnessed silence payment would be provided in the next clue set if this option is taken.
B
Conduct research into the homes and the building owners. Xi could provide the team with supervised access to the Palace of Landed Sky library and a kedan reader that specialises in ancient texts to go over the initial carving plans and monitored growth of these tree houses since the founding of Keeliai's Wood Sector. These plans show that the species of trees grew very deep and strong root systems, making them some of the hardiest buildings in the sector. They continued with approved hollowing out of rooms in the roots for the sake of living and storage over the centuries. Engineering reports show that the roots went into the shell itself and that Tu Vishan permitted it, mating the trees with its shell. The lower one goes into the root system, the darker and healthier they become, and reports of a dark, sticky sap oozing from any attempts to carve into them are well documented. Tests conducted on the nature of the sap proved inconclusive, stating that it was not a match to the sap found at the surface and contained a number of living organisms also not found at the surface. Many areas of the root systems were blocked off after they could not solve the mystery the sap and no further investigations were conducted. Interviews with owners would be inconclusive, with their decisions stated as being business in nature; they would provide lease agreements that show a businesskedan in Metal as being the new lessor of the properties. This kedan possesses no criminal record and no known gang affiliations.
This option is different as the exact outcome of this research will depend on what the team decides to do with it. If this option is selected, please include a summary of planned character actions that incorporate the above information and the results will take that into consideration.
C
Go straight to the root of the problem: The houses themselves. Xi states that she cannot provide them with the authority to raid the houses as they possess no evidence of foul play in any actions taken; she can guarantee them immunity by ensuring that no police respond to reports of trespass or assault that make take place in any of the six locations. There are at least two security kedan on location at each house and she may suggest taking Xaion's house first on the grounds that they can claim retrieval of a missed possession if caught. Regardless of house chosen for infiltration, they will find the surface floors to be emptied and any furniture left behind pushed aside. Whether they encounter or successfully evade security is up to the team to RNG the results of, knowing that there are a total of six locations they could attempt. Each location shows a tracking of dirt and mud into the lower levels, where another two kedan are stationed per floor. This show of tightened security is accompanied by a scattering of equipment and crates that appear, at surface glance, to be medical and surgical supplies of some sort. Any alert raised would see one kedan running for the stairs down to the next level to further raise the alarm. Players can create names and attitudes for any security kedan on site.
Exact findings at the "root" of the basement areas would be provided in the next clue set if this option is taken.
Deadline:
To permit creation of the next clue set, please reply with the option selected by the team by July 1st at end of day. If no response is made at that time, a mod will RNG the option. A header has been provided in the IC section for your team for any threading relevant to this clue set. Questions and (some) additional details can be requested by replying to this comment with QUESTION - SET 01 in the subject line. Please be specific with questions, as generic "what happened to X" queries are too broad to answer fairly.
