Not high enough? How high could you move it then, if you should need to? [This is something new enough to be interesting and take Enjolras's mind off of everything else, so forgive him if he seems a bit rude here, Korra.]
Ah yes. It seems like...we would call it magic at home, I should think. Considering that we have no science to explain such, of course. I hardly wish to imply you are some sort of witch if that sort of thing is offensive. Ah yes, that does seem like a good idea, thank you [He has not traveled SO far it seems, but Enjolras is tiring easier these days, so he is relieved to do just that, offering her a smile as he finds a spot where he has something to lean against comfortably enough for now.] Please do not let me interrupt you any further.
no subject
[Korra gives an approving frown with a nod.] Yeah, glad you're not implying that. [Some joking in her voice.] But bending is spiritual, not magical. Magic is doing weird things like moving from place to another or changing something into something else. Bending connects your chi, your life force, to the elements that exist in the world.
[Fanning her hands out, Korra brings them together in front of her stomach and then lifts them upwards. The ground raises next to Enjolras and a rock throne forms.]
no subject
Certainly not. Such accusations were quite dangerous not so long ago, after all. Spiritual then... [So what Enjolras is gleaning from this conversation is that, basically, she can do these things with a part of her soul? In any case, he is watching as the throne springs up next to him just like that. Well, seemingly just like that at least. He hardly means to stare as if Korra is some sort of show after all. Really. Despite the fact he totally is.]
no subject
[Even though she had seen it a couple of times, it was still kind of an ego boost to see someone impressed with her skills. Back home, people were less impressed of the bending part and more with the Avatar status that came with it.]
Right. Each element has its own style, but they all need your chi to work.
[Turning to the side, Korra's movements were fast, sharp. A combination of punches and kicks that provided balls of fire that flew into the sky and a large arc of flame. Sweeping one leg and then the other caused a wave a fire to cascade on the ground before dissipating.]
no subject
It is a label that is dangerous along with petty. If there was any true suspicion, even the word of someone else in some cases, the witch in question tended to be treated very badly before death, and she would be executed or totured. It is not something that we use lightly at home, even now, given the context, so far more than an insult in some places, I am afraid.
[And then Korra was tossing fire and Enjolras fell silent, watching. He did not really understand what a "chi" was, and doubted that he had one, but he still found it compelling to watch just now.]
no subject
[Korra didn't want to comment on how close-minded and hateful Enjolras' home sounded to her. After all, the Fire Nation did wipe out all but one of the Air Nomads.]
I just don't want any of that to reach here. [Bending was becoming an attractive distraction.] So we're on Air. I've never tried this one before, but that's why I go to these kinds of places.
[Putting her fists together at the knuckle in front of her stomach, Korra closed her eyes and stood still.
And continued to do so.
With nothing happening.
Until a breeze passed by. After it had gone, her hair was still moving as if it was there.
Wind began to bluster about behind her feet in a circular pattern. Eventually it turned into a ball of constantly moving air. Eyes still closed Korra sat crossed legged, balancing upon it like a top. There was a small smile on her face and the ball of air moved with her on it. Slow at first and then as it picks up speed, Korra opens her eyes and starts laughing.]
Are you seeing this!? [She yelled as she started to zoom around the area on it, going even so far as to go up on the wall behind the throne she made earlier.]
no subject
Any of what exactly? Those extinctions and all of the rest? I can see why you would not. I would not have the tyrannies of our kings reach this place either if it could be helped. We have enough trouble to bear, I think, even as TuVishan recovers now. I suppose they give perspectives on the way things could be worse, if nothing less.
[Air turned out to be quite amazing and Enjolras was impressed watching].
Had we had benders in my world, I would have welcomed any of them at our barricade, but especially someone like you! [He called this up to her, frankly amazed at air more than the others. Korra's excitement was catching, and he could not help but jump into a it a little too. This helped him to feel better, and much lighter for just now. Being her friend, if they could call themselves that so far, was certainly going to be good for him.]
no subject
That was the first time I’ve been able to do that! [Taking a moment before standing up and letting her happiness die down a bit, Korra then dusted off her blue, baggy pants.]
Hopefully we won’t need a barricade here on Tu Vishan, but for a reason like that, I’d be happy to be there. Though personally, I don’t think that thing we were supposed to fight cares what we do.
no subject
[Enjolras makes a face, remembering, and decides that perhaps he can trust Korra with a little, at least of the experience itself.]
It...he certainly has a way of ignoring everything you say and remains both unimpressed by it and... [That's a bit of a shudder there.] persistent in the extreme. He can make you forget yourself entirely, with his manipulations. When one like that alters the very reality around us... No, I doubt that he cares about us at all.
There may be need for a barricade here, yet, but perhaps for other reasons. They also can act as defense for citizens to take cover in. Perhaps that is the sort we may see here.
no subject
That sounds awful.
[The nightmares Korra had back home and the one she had after passing out had been enough. To have something make it for you while being awake…]
You actually saw it- him?
no subject
He seems to enjoy taunting us. I am not sure how long we were even in the death realm with him. But yes, we saw him... It...was..bizarre, actually. I do not know his true form because that form kept shifting, so...it would be hard to say. It's irritating he could not be pinned down to one specific form. That would make warnings easier by far. But I suppose that nothing in this was going to be easy.
no subject
Whatever sick kind of joy he gets out of harming others only goes away if he gets bored. So yours is the team that found him.
[Korra looks away for a moment, biting her lips as she thinks.]
How long were you there for?
no subject
Sadly, not. I fear we were the easier targets by far, particularly as we were not so boring. Perhaps it is a matter of attention. But how one avoids paying such to a shapeshifter who knows everything of them is anyone's guess I think. One would need to be,,,especially boring to have half a chance. I am not so remarkable myself. but even so. [And he's laughing a little as he mentions that. Because why not? It's over and he is dealing with the actual problem of what came about.]
That is...an interesting question. Less than it seemed, I think.
no subject
Wait…so Tu Vishan has been getting better. Does that mean Malicant left?
[Asti had already told her that Malicant was a powerful entity, one the turtle himself couldn’t handle. She doubted he was dead.]
no subject
The most that's happened to me is I've been lead to question some truths I came here knowing though, yes. I am perfectly all right. And...he seems to have done so. I cannot say that it will last but... many vestiges of him have been removed thanks to the others here as well, so with any luck, we are free of him for a while.
no subject
I was wondering what sending teams in different places was going to accomplish. But really, I just trusted Evandau and went with it. Sorry that you got the brunt of everything.
no subject
Oh. ah , Combeferre. My... [Enjolras's smile here is a little distracted and offhanded. Like he's been caught at admitting to something here. And then he's just coughing a bit and eyedarting. Hey, he'd gone twenty five years with no romantic attachments of any kind. This is all really really new territory. And a part of him wonders if it still is ANY territory, considering he's been avoiding him.] I...he could have hurt me, I would not have cared. This is just a body and my mind...well, it is still less to me than losing him would be.
I think that perhaps we were something of the distraction in the end, but it allowed the rest of you to accomplish so MUCH. I am glad that no one tried this alone. What exactly was your group doing then? Ours did not seem to get far, at the palace.
no subject
Hey, you have to be important to yourself before others can be important to you.
[As the Avatar, Korra wasn't supposed to enjoy that bit of wisdom. That may have come more of a snap than she meant.]
We had to go to the this place called the Quarry. Turned out some kedan were making this 'Dust' knockoff powder from really old parts of Tu Vishan's shell and sawdust. Our task was to bring back the evidence the police needed.
[It sounded easier than it was given that the kedan were armed to the teeth and they weren't, along with other factors, but that was the basis of it.]
no subject
[When she put it that way, well...] I had not considered myself in that context before, I do have to confess. There was always too much to do, so much to do. I think I am starting to learn about what there is beyond the barricade we died on at any rate so it, and him...they are a start.
[if it was a snap, well, Enjolras is used to delivering news in that sort of tone, and it rarely means he's incredibly upset with someone, so he took it in that sort of vein instead, like something he might tell one of les amis along the way. Well, probably not those words but...still.]
Old parts of... [And that is his turn to look ill for a moment.] you mean that they were directly scraping it? No wonder he was ill. Can that even be done? ...What happened?
no subject
[Korra stops therefor a brief moment to fold her her arms.]
The deal went south and we managed to take everything back to the police.
[Nothing in explicit detail, nothing she wanted to share again. It was hard enough to do once, and the second time was almost as difficult. She decided to just skate over how they got the evidence they needed.]
no subject
[And Enjolras can appreciate not wanting to speak of it, so he nods. Some war stories, he is finding, need to remain private things, so he will not press her.]
Well. Well done then, I should think.
no subject
[Their team received a pat on the back and verbal recognition for a success, but really, Korra didn’t feel that was the case at all.]
We all came back in one piece [For the most part.] and got to go home finally. I’m just hoping all the teams made a big enough difference to keep that thing away from Tu Vishan for a long time.
no subject
One piece is also good. We were lucky in that regard as well. And yes, that WOULD be ideal, wouldn't it? And that nothing else is flung his way either.

]Enjolras takes a moment, considering Temeraire and shudders. ] A friend of mine was badly affected by the power shortage. I would imagine that you were as well. I am glad for everyone's sake who uses them that that part of it seems over at the moment.
