Sinbrilee | Dreaming | Death

Art by Rica.

The city is lit by a warm orange glow, there are thousands of lanterns lit and burning brightly to ward off the gathering dark. It was once a grand, thriving place, and it's obvious by the quality of the Greco-Roman architecture, the high sweeping columns of white marble, the beautifully paved roads. There are aqueducts throughout the city that look as if they could be put to use today. In fact, if it weren't for the fact that the city's spent the last few hundred years underwater, it looks quite liveable. This city is entirely open to exploration, so feel free to send your character out to their heart's content. Remember, certain doorways will lead your characters into either Death or the Dreaming and these markings won't always be visible to them, so they should take care and be vigilant at all times!

Note: A separate post will be made for the events of the Bacchanal later in the month.

[She sputters a little, confronted with the idea of cows that simply don't talk. At all.]

But - just because they hath not spoken yet does not mean they won't! A number of my citizens are cows!

[Temeraire, for his part, is feeling less intimidated and more annoyed by the moment; the cows are getting further and further away, and he is not getting any less hungry, and bovine rights are rights he has never seriously considered. Nor, for that matter, does he particularly want to.]

Then how do you propose we test whether or not they are talking cows? I for one do not intend to sit around waiting for them to say anything at all.
raisethemoon: (Oh dear...)

Well -

[Huff. She really, really doesn't like this. But if they aren't sapient, it isn't as though she can really deny him a meal based solely on her own sentimentality.]

- come then, let us herd them together, and I shall verify it myself. There are a few spells that can detect such things.

[He hesitates visibly. Talking horses, talking cows--he cannot truly believe any of it is real. This must be how the people around him feel on a regular basis.

But in the end, his innate sense of justice wins out. If they are capable of speech, or intelligent enough for it, then it would, after all, be wrong to eat them. He heaves a great sigh, and nods reluctantly.]

I saw those two cows split up after they left the alleyway; I suppose it would be a great deal of trouble to find them all by oneself.
raisethemoon: (Awww...)

Very well. I shall go this way.

[She flaps up into the air and departs without another word, still more bothered by the encounter than she wants to show. Luna doesn't believe that Temeraire would willfully consume a sapient creature. But the whole idea of it just turns her stomach. It's not just a fish or something, it's a cow.

She sees the cow long before she finally swoops in to block its path. Having made an agreement, it would be dishonorable of her to let it escape, though she did consider it.]

Come now, speak if thou art able. Do not be frightened.
dracobin: (taken aback)

[It takes a long time to track the other cow down, primarily because his larger wingspan makes it much more difficult to maneuver. This time, however, he wastes no time in seizing it with both claws and slowly, laboriously dragging it back to where he saw Luna last. It is so much more inconvenient when one is only thirty feet long.

At first he makes to land beside her, but then, seeing she is trying to coax a conversation out of the cow, thinks better of it. Instead he hovers a short distance away, out of sight of the cow and curious despite himself.]
