Sinbrilee | Dreaming | Death

Art by Rica.

The city is lit by a warm orange glow, there are thousands of lanterns lit and burning brightly to ward off the gathering dark. It was once a grand, thriving place, and it's obvious by the quality of the Greco-Roman architecture, the high sweeping columns of white marble, the beautifully paved roads. There are aqueducts throughout the city that look as if they could be put to use today. In fact, if it weren't for the fact that the city's spent the last few hundred years underwater, it looks quite liveable. This city is entirely open to exploration, so feel free to send your character out to their heart's content. Remember, certain doorways will lead your characters into either Death or the Dreaming and these markings won't always be visible to them, so they should take care and be vigilant at all times!

Note: A separate post will be made for the events of the Bacchanal later in the month.

[After a moment's heavy pause:] No, but I'd be surprised if you lived in New York and you hadn't heard of Gotham. It's on the Jersey coastline, the nearest big city to New York?

[Multiple universes are weird. But Gotham not existing in another world makes more sense than someone not having heard of it.

On the other hand, the story of his brother makes her laugh.]

Yeah, nothing like a good scare to keep someone straight, according to a friend of mine.

...Yeah, I don't think it's in my world. Universe. Timeline. [He pauses. It could honestly be all those things. Not in his world, or his universe. Or maybe it was a city in the future, and not during his time.]

Or I definitely haven't heard of it. But if it has a good museum, it has to be pretty big. [Joking about things is always good.

And he likes that story of his brother. Sometimes younger brothers were good for something!]
Pretty much! Eventually he went back to doing things like that, but he's always kind of hesitant about it? I guess some traumatic flashback to the whole thing. But he's still young, so that's okay.

...My other brother on the other hand...

Oh, you have two brothers?

[Dinah inhales through her teeth, the universal expression for 'this can't be good.']

He's a pain?

Yeah, two younger brothers. They're close in age, so they act almost like twins? So they enable each other a lot, but they're not bad. He's just the kind that decides to go through your room when you really don't want them to go do that.

Boundaries are something he's still working on. [He looks down and smiles.] At least we don't have to share rooms.

[Despite herself, she laughs at the idea of going through a sibling's things.]

That's definitely a blessing. I never had any siblings, so I can't imagine the pain of having someone constantly invading my space like that.

[He looks up and grins at her. It's better when someone smiles, instead of looking. Maybe sad? Or something. But not as happy.]

It's a real pain, I'll tell you! And every time you have a... a friend over, they used to do this thing where they need to be the center of attention, even if it's your friend.

Well that I wouldn't know anything about. I never brought home um... "friends" when I lived with my Mom.

[Not that she disapproves per se, but her mother definitely would.]

And for some reason, the teenager I live with now doesn't do that very often, either.

[Mia's got her own reasons not to, of course, but at least one of those reasons is called Oliver.]

witchnotwarlock: (oh. uh. awkward.)

[personal profile] witchnotwarlock 2013-08-29 11:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Yeah, he wasn't real subtle with that, was he. Billy looks down and away, hoping that she doesn't see how bright red he turned for a moment there. Not that he really had to worry anymore about bringing home a 'friend' when said 'friend' was now living with him...

Yeah.]
...Is that a good thing or a bad thing, for your teenager friend?

[After a moment's thought:]

It's a good thing, I think. She's had some stuff in her past she's working through. [That aren't really Dinah's to share.] I think when she's ready, she won't have to worry about her 'siblings' getting in the way.

Her guardian is a different matter, but I can handle him.

[Billy nods, but he doesn't press. It's not his to know.] That's nice, though, that you're helping her out with that. That's the kind of thing you want to hear about.

[People helping people. And not being superheroes to do it!] Oh, yeah? I'm really glad to not be him right now, I think a lot of people might think that way, too.

[Dinah laughs, good naturedly.]

Well, he is my husband. I think I get to tell him when he's being an overbearing old man.

witchnotwarlock: (Hey now!)

[personal profile] witchnotwarlock 2013-09-09 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[Billy grins.] Yeah, I think that's definitely part of the whole marriage thing. You get to tell the other person when they get annoying that they're getting annoying. And that they need to stop or you're going to have your speedster brother talk a mile a minute at them until they can't take it anymore!
