Sinbrilee | Dreaming | Death

Art by Rica.

The city is lit by a warm orange glow, there are thousands of lanterns lit and burning brightly to ward off the gathering dark. It was once a grand, thriving place, and it's obvious by the quality of the Greco-Roman architecture, the high sweeping columns of white marble, the beautifully paved roads. There are aqueducts throughout the city that look as if they could be put to use today. In fact, if it weren't for the fact that the city's spent the last few hundred years underwater, it looks quite liveable. This city is entirely open to exploration, so feel free to send your character out to their heart's content. Remember, certain doorways will lead your characters into either Death or the Dreaming and these markings won't always be visible to them, so they should take care and be vigilant at all times!

Note: A separate post will be made for the events of the Bacchanal later in the month.

"I'm--I was chief of police in Republic City." There's a touch of wistfulness about her eyes for the briefest of moments--then it's gone. "Resigned my commission shortly before I arrived. It's a long story."

"Most stories involving resignations are," Una says, wryly sympathetic. "Are there others from your world here?"

A brisk nod. "There's six of us all told, as far as I can tell. All but one of us were taken roughly from the same time period, and the last was taken from almost seventy years prior." The last also happens to be her mother, but nobody needs to know that. "As for why the people who were taken were picked--we all knew each other, but aside from that I can't figure out any kind of pattern."

"Curious. I've noticed that there tend to be groups like that—but there's not a single person here from any of the zones that I frequent—which you'd think would be obvious, given my line of work and that of many of my friends." She shakes her head. "My hope is that someday one of my forays into the palace will turn up something that might constitute a hint."

A short huff of sympathetic amusement. "Maybe bringing in too many people familiar with the concept of--what was it, multiverses?--would make it too easy for us to escape. Have you managed to get in often?"

"Once when I asked for permission, and once when I—" a discreet clearing of the throat, "—found my way in. The second time was more productive than the first, curiously enough." She glanced around the room, a seemingly casual look that was seeking out any movement or eavesdroppers. "Perhaps while we're settled and this city provides additional entertainment, there might be another opportunity."

"You found your way in."

She quirks a skeptical eyebrow, unsure how to feel about that. On one hand, her training tells her it's in everyone's best interest to play nice with the Emperor. On the other--well, they're clearly being kept here without their permission, and it's hard to say she wouldn't do the same, given the chance.

"Well," she says at last, considering, "given what I've heard of the Emperor, I wouldn't put it past her to be hiding even more from us."

"We've been uncovering a bit at a time—and it's certainly not being volunteered by any of the locals," Una says. "There's a fellow named Richard who's compiled a fair amount of information ... others too." She sighs. "One of these days we've got to centralise everything. There's probably things I still don't know yet."
