Sinbrilee | Dreaming | Death

Art by Rica.

The city is lit by a warm orange glow, there are thousands of lanterns lit and burning brightly to ward off the gathering dark. It was once a grand, thriving place, and it's obvious by the quality of the Greco-Roman architecture, the high sweeping columns of white marble, the beautifully paved roads. There are aqueducts throughout the city that look as if they could be put to use today. In fact, if it weren't for the fact that the city's spent the last few hundred years underwater, it looks quite liveable. This city is entirely open to exploration, so feel free to send your character out to their heart's content. Remember, certain doorways will lead your characters into either Death or the Dreaming and these markings won't always be visible to them, so they should take care and be vigilant at all times!

Note: A separate post will be made for the events of the Bacchanal later in the month.

Hey, it’s pretty humble actually. I’m fisher for Finnick’s- well, Jack’s seafood company. There’s a number, a quota, of fish to catch daily and anything in excess of that I get to keep.

[Korra folded her arms and gave Ororo an incredibly proud smile, complimented by an incredibly brief, but pointed waggle in her eyebrows.]

Waterbending makes that a breeze and I usually end up giving a nice chunk of my extra catch to the business anyway. [Living off of fish is so normal for her that her food bill was pretty minimal thanks to it.]

[There's a falter at that name -- Finnick -- and it takes her a second to compose a reply. She and he have been flirting circles around each other for months, but he's distant. Hurting. It reminds her of Hank and that, in turn, brings up a lot of hurt. She's part masochist for ever indulging it and it'll only hurt more if he disappears the way Brandon did, but--

Ororo stops herself. Shakes her head. Even crosses her arms and finds a smug expression to mask over her real emotions.]

Sounds fishy.

[Just sayin'.]

That waterbending... it's the same as the weird earth thing you did, right?

[Thinking Ororo just found her profession underwhelming, considering the shake of the head and smug look, Korra gave coy look of her own.]

Even smells fishy. But yeah, they're both doing all right with the business. [Pointing a thumb at herself without unfolding her arms, Korra's voice dropped to one of smooth sarcasm.]

Thanks to yours truly.

[Actually the only two fishers they had were her and Traci, so that statement was half true.]

Yeah. Weird earth, water, fire, or air stuff. That's my specialty. Well, it's more complicated than that, but sure. We can go with weird.

Weird's good. [Truth, coming from a mutant, but Ororo offers the affirmation more to reassure Korra in case her words were misunderstood. It's not like she's aiming for being all PC or anything -- don't get her wrong at all. Just. Whatever. She's just offering a few words and don't need much reading into it.] Weird's a step off normal and who wants to be normal?
alphatar: (Looking up)

[personal profile] alphatar 2013-09-16 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[A chuckle.]

Trust me, I’m with you on that one. [She had never imagined what her life would be like if she wasn’t the Avatar, and she wasn’t about to start now.] It comes with its perks. [Bending all four elements was incredibly convenient and sometimes, when Korra was on her high Avatar ostrich-horse, she wasn’t sure how her friends even managed without it.]

Now, I need to ask you a question because of your color. [She turned very serious as she put her hands on her hips and looked at Ororo without a trace of humor.]

…Are you a moon spirit?

[After meeting Jack and him having white hair, she had to ask that of Ororo now too. It was a rare color after all, and even Jack said his hair was changed by the Moon. Or the Man in the Moon rather.]
storm_warning: (Oh-My-God)

[personal profile] storm_warning 2013-09-16 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[The light turn of the conversation hits a brick wall at the colour comment. Ororo faces more discrimination for her powers than her skintone, but her life's not been without racism and she's careful with that. Her posture tenses and her arms come up, crossing subconsciously. Defensively.]

Yeah?

[Then, the question hits. She's braced for something a lot less... THAT and she stares at Korra.]

Hell no, I'm not. [And it sounds like she's talking to an alien or something, because what kind of question was that?] I'm just a mutant, not some whacked out spirit.
alphatar: (Look over Innocent)

[personal profile] alphatar 2013-09-16 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[When she said mutant, Korra remembered what Nita had told her once. That some identify with the term and don’t think of it as derogatory in the manner that Korra felt when she was referenced to as a metahuman.]

Sorry, I had to ask. White hair and moon spirits are pretty close from my experience.

[From the way she set herself up, Korra was guessing that Ororo was expecting an unwelcome question.]

Why, did someone ask you that before? [Jack’s reaction had been one of surprise, but also of enamored interest, and she had learned that he didn’t get asked that question a lot, if ever. So maybe Ororo’s opposite reaction meant that she did?

Korra logic.

They're real opposites in mine. [Ororo counters with that, shaking her head at, well. It's ludicrous, to her. Maybe it's some weird compliment where Korra comes from, but it's... yeah. Weird, and in a different way than the whole weirdbending.] White hair's just an over-the-hill symbol where I come from.

[Ororo shrugs her shoulders, unlocking her arms from their defensive posture.]

And, no. That's not a big Q&A deal for me usually. People usually focus more on the X-Men shenanigans than any weird spiritual voodoo.
alphatar: (Hands on hips)

[personal profile] alphatar 2013-09-17 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Well yeah, I mean older people get white hair too. It’s just when someone young has it, that’s the dead give away. [No offense Jack.]

Oh yeah? I just so happen to deal in Avatar shenanigans back home. [When she’s not in someone’s care anyway.] Anything fun?
storm_warning: (Drenched and happy)

[personal profile] storm_warning 2013-09-17 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Mine's all about the mutation, sorry. [And she's almost sincere about that? Feels weird to say it like that, but it seems like this Moon Spirit thing means something to Korra if she'd ask a near stranger (well, new friend) about it.]

Just the usual save-the-world messes, y'know. [Ororo stretches her arms back -- it's a bit of a bravado motion she's picking up from a certain Avatar maybe.] People want to end everythiny and we X-Men make sure it doesn't happen that way. Keeps me busy.
alphatar: (Curious What Odd)

[personal profile] alphatar 2013-09-18 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven’t had the chance to save the world. [Not yet.]

But I know the busy part. This place almost feels like a forced vacation. Well, not this place; Tu Vishan.

[Sinbrilee felt more like a ghost town. Probably because that’s exactly what it was.]

So mutants and metahumans are just people who have powers right?
storm_warning: (Classy lady)

[personal profile] storm_warning 2013-09-19 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this spot's more like ghost town central. Call it part of the Unwanted Vacation tour, I guess.

[A shrug. Ororo crosses her arms low over her stomach, looking around the area again. She's seen enough ghosts for the now, but it's better than the jiangshi of the last dive.]

Huh? Oh, yeah. Far as I can tell, metas get their powers differently, but other than that we're pretty much the same.

Those benders of your world'd probably count. [A nod towards Korra.] That'd make you an honourary meta.
alphatar: (So unsure)

[personal profile] alphatar 2013-09-19 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, it has its perks. [Said just after Naga began to dig nearby Korra feet for another gem.]

I’ll stick with bender or Avatar if there’s ever a need for titles. [For Korra, there wasn’t pride earned in being called a metahuman or mutant so it was just a label. One that she wasn’t fond of.] But yeah, Korra works fine in just about every situation.

[Unless she needed to throw her weight around and insist someone use her full title, which has happened on occasion.]
storm_warning: (Not feeling the aster)

[personal profile] storm_warning 2013-09-22 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Perks?

[Ororo swallows the jaded laugh at that comment and instead kneels down to help Naga dig out the next gem, working around the large paws of the polar bear dog. There are good things here, yeah, but she's getting tired of finding that silver lining all the time. It's starting to look real tarnished in her eyes, gems and friends or not.]

Who are we kidding? [She pulls the gem free, giving Naga a rewarding scratch behind the ears. Ororo sighs and looks up at Korra.] The shine's off the gem when we're digging for good news.
alphatar: (Genuine smile)

[personal profile] alphatar 2013-09-23 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It’s either that or those archways. I’ll take the gems. [She raised her hand and the motion brought the gem to her palm.]

They may come in handier than we think. [Putting in the saddle bags with the other made light clink sound.] Good news though, you found my best friend and that means a lot to me.

[She put her foot in the stirrup and got back on the saddle and reached her hand out to Ororo.] That’s definitely good news for you.

[Her smile was one of smugness and sincerity, how she’s able to pull it off is anyone’s guess.]
