Situation: An ancient festival of an ancient city, all are welcome at the Bacchanal!

Death and destruction cannot curtail the single most important festival celebrated by the denizens of Sinbrilee: The Bacchanal! The ghosts in and about the city have begun to gossip about high fashion and festivities, sending any that inquire to the Amphitheatre -- a grand, circular structure nestled in the west side of the city.

This structure bore the fall of Sinbrilee and the wear of time with dignity, having lost handfuls of archways and one long stretch of wall to crumbling decay. Despite this, it is obvious that the amphitheatre once hosted many a display and every more festivities than the mind can grasp. This was their solace and safety; here is where the people of Sinbrilee came to find the mind's escape from all that threatened them and their great turtle.

Ghosts have been busy throughout the week, clearing paths through debris and hanging great cloth banners of soft blues and greens to disguise the more blatant signs of its decline. Many hundreds of them shimmer and slid through the area, providing for tables upon tables of food, offering drink, and overseeing competition of sport and skill (some even denying death's non-corporeal curse to enter).

Here, well... Here is where the party begins!

[Sei pretty much immediately ends up on the couches, cane nearby and a small black case sitting next to him, sprawled out in a rather magnificent assortment of way too tall limbs and...restraining himself from humming along. Barely. Sort of. It doesn't appear to be working very well. He came to Tu Vishan a proper dandy, and given the circumstances he sees no reason not to enjoy himself.]

[Bryn leaves her golem at the couch she was sitting on to fetch some refreshments for herself, and as she returns, she sees a familiar face sprawled out nearby. Friendly, even if he hadn't been so warm at their first meeting, she comes to a stop in front of him and offers a small wave.]

The music is great, isn't it? Never heard anything like it back home.

[She's making an attempt to make friends again, Sei. She's in a good mood, dressed up, and entirely in her element. So there.]

It is certainly soothing.

[And he seems in a much better mood, here near the music, than he was in the baths.

Not that this means he isn't still a walking entity of sass, just that it's toned down.]

If you've never heard anything like it, I kind of feel bad for you. [And he does mean that, because all kinds of music should be a thing everywhere.]

[It doesn't escape her notice that he himself seems to be slightly soothed by the music, but she doesn't comment, instead shrugging.]

We have other kinds of music back home. Lovely music with slightly different instruments. I play myself but...nothing too similar, however.

[Bryn takes a seat, scooting onto an edge of the couch not occupied by Sei and all of his long limbs.]

Do you play any instruments? Or sing?

Other kinds, huh? I guess that makes sense, given different worlds...even so, it's a pity how much is missed between them.

[He pauses when she asks, and there's probably a very noticeabe...stillness at the word 'sing', but after a moment he does answer, even if he's giving her a bit of the side-eye.]

I've been known to play now and then. I won't sing without a damn compelling reason to.

[Well with that kind of answer she can't help but pry, just a bit.]

May I ask why that is? I mean, you said it's a pity how much is missed between worlds. If you sang you could share some of what's in your world.

[leviathaned]

[Sei's shoulder rise defensively when she turns that back around on him, but he did walk into that one.]

It's--complicated. Why is my singing suddenly of such interest to you?

[She draws back slightly, just a slight, immediate movement, and her brows knit together.]

I was just making conversation. You brought it up so I assumed you weren't uncomfortable at least speaking about it but if I was wrong well, then we can talk about something else.

[leviathaned]

I brought up that people sing, not that I sing specifically. [But he does flush a little, and seems somewhat mollified.]

It's not like that. It's the 'other people hearing me sing' that tends to end up being a problem, so I'm not going to do it for nothing.

[Bryn might argue that his claim that he wouldn't sing without a compelling reason may imply there are times he does sing, but it's a party and it would be rude to nitpick.]

Is your singing that hard on the ears then?

[She smiles encouragingly, hoping that a small teasing joke will unfluster him. strike>Even if the flushing is adorable.]

It is not. [He huffs a little indignantly at the implication, because really, Bryn? Rood.]

It's more of the opposite problem.

[WHAT IS SHE SUPPOSED TO THINK and she is teasing okay. It is what people do sometimes.]

That good?

[She stares a moment.]

But you won't sing unless it's for a good reason?

[leviathaned]

Compelling reason, I said compelling. That is different from 'good reason' or even 'good life decision'. Why, trying to come up with one?

[He's sensitive about the music ok.]

And yes, it's that good.

[trifurcate]

Okay fine, compelling reason. And the more you talk about it, the more I just want to hear you. One musician-slash-singer to another.

[She pauses a beat.]

But it doesn't have to be here and now, of course I mean, there are a lot of people around here.

[leviathaned]

Money's pretty compelling. [He's basically feeding her the rope to hang him with, at this point.]

Depends on if they're willing to chip in, but outside is probably a better bet.

[trifurcate]

[Bryn raises an eyebrow.]

The only people I'm going to be paying money to sing are the people who are willing to perform at my tavern when it opens next month.

So what do you say, if the price is right, will you?

[leviathaned]

...You're paying me enough, I'll do whatever you tell me to on that stage, Miss. I don't think this is the sort of turtle a man can pay his bills on his supernaturally good looks alone, after all.

[Looking pleased, Bryn nods.]

Alright then. When we open we'll talk price and I'll pencil you in for a night We'll see how it goes.

[leviathaned]

[Sei arches an eyebrow, but shrugs. Well, if it's a steady gig, he can't complain too much...]

No audition, huh? Well, just give me the address and a date. I'd blow that test out of the water, anyway.

[trifurcate]

[She grins.]

I don't think I'm going to have time for auditions at the start so, your audition is your first night. Help me keep the crowds happy and we'll be good to go.

[leviathaned]

That I can manage, don't you fear. I've never yet had stage fright my entire life.

[trifurcate]

Then I guess this should beneficial for us both.

[She nudges one of his legs with an elbow.]

So if you're so good, why don't you sing more back home? Why so choosy?

[leviathaned]

...I did say that's complicated. [He closes his eyes and sinks back into the pillow before eventually speaking again.]

How about you tell me why you're marked by a god, and then I explain?

Oh, well that's easy enough to explain. In my world, our deities live among us. I think I've said that before, haven't I? Well, in any case, part of what allows them to do that is a compact or contract of sorts. It has quite a bit to it but the relevant part is that they bond to the people of the country. That bond keeps them anchored, keeps them alive. It's a thing they ask of us when we come of age at sixteen. Some of us are chosen. Others aren't. I was chosen, and when I agreed, I was given a deity-gift.

[She smiles, shrugs.]

Jhirem? [He doesn't open his eyes, but from the tone of his voice he is listening. Then he sighs, and waves a hand kind of dismissively.]
