Event | Sinbrilee | Bacchanal

Characters: Any and all!
Date: August 24 - 30th
Location: Sinbrilee
Situation: An ancient festival of an ancient city, all are welcome at the Bacchanal!
Warnings/Rating: Please label threads as appropriate.

Death and destruction cannot curtail the single most important festival celebrated by the denizens of Sinbrilee: The Bacchanal! The ghosts in and about the city have begun to gossip about high fashion and festivities, sending any that inquire to the Amphitheatre -- a grand, circular structure nestled in the west side of the city.

This structure bore the fall of Sinbrilee and the wear of time with dignity, having lost handfuls of archways and one long stretch of wall to crumbling decay. Despite this, it is obvious that the amphitheatre once hosted many a display and every more festivities than the mind can grasp. This was their solace and safety; here is where the people of Sinbrilee came to find the mind's escape from all that threatened them and their great turtle.

Ghosts have been busy throughout the week, clearing paths through debris and hanging great cloth banners of soft blues and greens to disguise the more blatant signs of its decline. Many hundreds of them shimmer and slid through the area, providing for tables upon tables of food, offering drink, and overseeing competition of sport and skill (some even denying death's non-corporeal curse to enter).

Here, well... Here is where the party begins!

[Bryn has had an eventful landfall this time around. In many ways, as eventful as the landfall before. This time she hasn't found any precious items from home, however, but she did happen across a great deal of money, native to Sinbrilee, and perhaps something more precious: a white marble lynx golem. It's rather large, about the size of a pony, and as Bryn has found, incredibly loyal. Quiet but for the charming purring sound it makes at times, it's nonetheless become a rather welcome companion rather quickly. Better still, it's managed to provide a means with which to get around, rather than wear out her shoes.

So when she arrives, it's sitting in a sort of side-saddle style on top of the golem as it heads up to the Amphitheatre. Astride might have been better, all things considered, except for the length of her skirt making that impossible to do modestly. Nudging the golem gently with her heel against its side, she urges it toward Annabeth the moment she spots her friend with the interesting looking bird following behind her.]

Annabeth, hi!

[She'd be lying if whatever Bryn was riding on wasn't the first thing Annabeth noticed soon after hearing her name. It manages to pull her away from her architectural observations, but she's pleased to see Bryn herself, too. Asty the seagull creaks overhead, and Annabeth raises an eyebrow over the stone lynx-like creature.]

Hey. Where'd you get the ride? [Let's get that elephant out of the room first okok.]

[As soon as the lynx stops by Annabeth, Bryn slips down over the side to the ground. Her hand remains on the lynx's shoulder, who responds with a purr that sounds like rolling stones in its chest, but otherwise her attention is focused on Annabeth and her bird friend.]

I found it in Sinbrilee. It's some sort of golem and I think it...it just likes me? It's been sticking around since I found it [and kept it from killing Jim] so I think it maybe...linked to me or something? Not sure.

[Her gaze goes up to the bird.]

Looks like I'm not the only one with a new friend, though.

[She makes a face over the sound - a purr of stones? - and she's distracted by just studying the lynx for a moment, even after Bryn dismounts.]

[She comes back with a grin, though.]
You lucked out that it got so attached. It looks like it'd be really strong and formidable otherwise.

[The sea gull creaks, and Annabeth's face turns a little sheepish.] That's Asty. Leo made it for Percy. Yeah, he named it after the turtle. There's another named Chelona. [A pause.] That's turtle in Greek. [Mock exasperation over her boyfriend's pet naming choices goes here.]

[Her hand strokes over the golem's shoulder affectionately, and she nods in agreement. It's lucky that the thing...bonded to her. Imprinted. Whatever it was that linked her to the large, stone cat.]

Leo made these?

[Her expression lights up.]

I knew he was an inventor and I met his tables but these are incredible. I like the name Chelona as well, even if it is a bit...on the nose, so to speak.
sophos: (pic#4369125)

[personal profile] sophos 2013-08-29 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
Does it have a name? [Annabeth still keeps looking over at it, mostly out of her own curiosity.]

[Then she grins, nods.]
Chelona's with Percy, but yeah - Leo made them. He built and designed a flying warship back home. As far as sons of Hephaestus go, he's definitely one of the best. [She can't help rolling her eyes over the names tho.] Chelly, for short. And here, this is cool - [She sort of makes a gesture at Asty above her head, where it turns... into a hammer. And continues being airborn.]

[personal profile] trifurcate 2013-08-29 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[Flying hammer.

The bird turns into a flying hammer. Bryn stares at it. Then Annabeth. Then the bird-turned-hammer. Her jaw drops just a bit.]

That's pretty incredible I mean. We don't really have anything like that back home. It'd take an Aspurran mechanic probably or engineer of some sort and an Asarian magician...or someone well versed in both disciplines.

[Just think of the applications! The uses with subterfuge!]

But ah, no. No names for the big kitty yet. I'm open to suggestions...from you at least.

[Not Annabeth's friends.]

[personal profile] sophos 2013-08-30 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
[Asty-as-a-hammer sticks that way for a bit, but turns back into a normal seagull after a few moments. Well, as normal as a mechanical seagull could be considered. It keeps fluttering around, keeping its distance from the lynx.] There's probably definite demigod skill needed, or at least that extra intuitiveness; Hephaestus is the god of technology, among other things, so his children excel there. Though I'm not entirely sure how Asty was put together, I never asked. Both seagulls were sort of a surprise birthday present.

[She can't help the grin on her face.] Depends on what kind of name you're going for? My biases are a little Greek, but considering where you found it, I guess it's not too far off.
trifurcate: (pic#5681446)

[personal profile] trifurcate 2013-08-30 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
I had considered something Kouhyaran, to be honest, but you have an excellent point. A greek name may be more fitting.

[She turns to consider the lynx carefully a moment. The names she'd come up with were alright but not particularly right. Bryn watches the lynx as the lynx watches the seagull. Its gaze is intent, but it doesn't seem to be intending to make a move on the mechanical bird.]

Do you have a god or goddess of large cats like this? Or stonework creatures?
sophos: (pic#4369081)

[personal profile] sophos 2013-08-30 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
The Greeks don't. There's Bastet, but she's the Egyptian goddess of cats. Hephaestus is the god of stonework and stone-masonry, too, but that doesn't really feel fitting. [tiny smile, as she glances over the lynx again.] Artemis is the goddess of the hunt and wildlife, though her sacred animal is the deer. [more thinking!!]

There's the Aegis - a shield, originally belonging to my mother but shared with Zeus. It's strong, powerful, with the face of Medusa to further ward off enemies - the word aegis itself has sort of come to relate to a sense of protection in present context.
trifurcate: (pic#5681484)

[personal profile] trifurcate 2013-09-01 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Aegis could be fitting. I like Bastet as well. Artemis would definitely work as well.

[She looks to the giant stone cat with a tilt of her head, and pats its shoulder.]

What do you think, hm? Bastet? Artemis?

[The cat looks away from the seagull finally, looks to Bryn, but it doesn't indicate any preference one way or the other.]

Well I guess we'll just have to think about it more. [She grins] So hey, where's your guy? You brought him, right?

[Annabeth sort of laughs over the lynx's non-reaction, but she grins at Bryn.] There's plenty of time, I'm sure. Names can be really important. I could think on it for a few days, give you more.

[It doesn't even phase her, and she's still smiling. Of course she brought him.] He's around. I think he took a dive for the food tables.

[Bryn moves in closer, so that their conversation can only be heard by them. With a smile that is only a little bit sly, she leans toward her younger friend.]

And how did things go with you two after our little talk? It went alright, right?

[SHE IS JUST CONCERNED OKAY.]
sophos: (pic#5250005)

[personal profile] sophos 2013-09-01 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's only two seconds before what Bryn says sinks in, and Annabeth can feel her ears turn faintly red. She has to resist the urge to jerk away, but it's something she'd do to anyone who tried asking about the subject, really. But she'd already gone to Bryn for advice, so she sort of awkwardly stares off at the Lynx and offers what she can to start.] It - hasn't. I mean, we haven't... [Actually had sex. Technically.]

[Bryn should feel bad probably, for bringing it up uninvited and such, especially with Annabeth's reaction. But, Annabeth had come to her about this and so she just had wanted to follow up.]

Did something go wrong or it just...hasn't happened yet?
sophos: (pic#4324787)

[personal profile] sophos 2013-09-03 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oddly, she's pretty sure she doesn't feel as awkward right now as she could be. Her ears are still red, though.]

No, no, everything's fine. [A pause, and Asty fills it by creaking.] It hasn't happened. But - I mean, that's okay. It's not a bad thing.

[personal profile] trifurcate 2013-09-06 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[Listening quietly, she tries to keep aware for anything that Annabeth says or how she says it that might send up red flags...but nothing does.]

Well there's never any rush of course. [She shrugs.] No time limit or anything. As long as everything is okay with you two.

[She smiles a bit.]

So, what have you been up to with landfall?
sophos: (pic#4369153)

[personal profile] sophos 2013-09-07 08:59 am (UTC)(link)
[She tries for a grin, but it's a little weak.] Yeah. Yeah, everything's definitely okay. We're just - taking it slow.

[Her face brightens.] It reminds me of home. I've been studying the ruins and architecture, sketching a lot. I found some armor from home, weirdly enough.
trifurcate: (pic#5681430)

[personal profile] trifurcate 2013-09-08 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
[Bryn doesn't comment on things going slow mainly because well, it's okay. None of her business more than that.]

Well that's not entirely surprising, considering the last time you found my sword. You'll have to show me the armor sometime though.

[Her gaze moves around the area a moment before she looks back at Annabeth.]

So this is what your home looks like? A little like here?
sophos: (pic#4369132)

[personal profile] sophos 2013-09-09 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
[She grins.] I keep finding all kinds of things, apparently. But yeah, I can definitely show you. It's back at my suite right now, if you want to come over sometime.

[Annabeth looks around a little wistfully.] Some parts of home. Camp Half-Blood and Mount Olympus have architecture like this, but most of the world is modernized, maybe a little like the Metal Sector. All of this here is antique, technically, by my world's standards.
trifurcate: (pic#5681484)

[personal profile] trifurcate 2013-09-10 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
Antique means just more linked with your history and roots, though.

[Giving the architecture a closer look, she can't help but appreciate its aesthetic. It's beautiful, stately in ways that don't exist in Askoupur.]

And it's beautiful. I like it better than some of what I've seen in the Metal sector. It's a shame there isn't something more like this in Keeliai.
sophos: (pic#5312159)

[personal profile] sophos 2013-09-10 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
[She smiles at that.] Some of the buildings I'm around are in prime shape, good as new. Or actually new, so it's not all that antique to me. My roots are pretty much around me all the time, at least at Camp.

I definitely like it better. Almost everything I design is classically influenced - that's what the style as a whole is referred to. But I guess it's kind of a mix, too, depending on what I want or what it's needed for. It might be possible to bring some designs like this into Keeliai, especially at the rate the city needs to fix or create infrastructure.

[You got her started, Bryn. Architecture.]
trifurcate: (pic#5681444)

[personal profile] trifurcate 2013-09-10 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[Architecture indeed. Enjoying seeing how passionate Annabeth gets about this, Bryn is content to listen and talk about it for a little while. Certainly the golem behind her isn't going to get too restless, content to stay by her side.]

I wonder who you'd speak to about such things. Maybe you could see to leaving your mark on this city. [She taps her chin thoughtfully.] Certainly you'll have the option to do so with my new place. Now that we've found the building.

[She pauses a beat.]

I did tell you that, didn't I?
sophos: (pic#4369189)

[personal profile] sophos 2013-09-11 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
[She pauses to think that over.] I haven't really asked around. It's hard to tell if they'd let me, but I'd certainly be willing.

[A nod.] You did, yeah! I'll have to come check it out again, see what we can do.
trifurcate: (pic#5681422)

[personal profile] trifurcate 2013-09-13 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe you could ask someone at the palace to point you in the right direction of whoever is in charge of that. We might not be here to beautify their city but I can't imagine them being opposed to someone with real talent if they want to lend a hand.

[Shrugging, she looks back to her golem and smiles.]

I think maybe we ought to go in, see what they have set up around here. Want to come with or are you going to stay out here a while longer?
