Magic Woman I can't leave you alone

[All Korra did was raise her eyebrows at the mention of Dick being in her suite, but kept silent otherwise. Fifteen year olds needed to be teased at least a little. Even if said fifteen year old looks older now.

Burning down the clinic, working with Kyle at the clinic, finding her predecessor almost dying at the clinic...

Yeeeah, skipping the subject would be best.]

That's how I got here, and it's just gotten better since the first day. [When she accidentally flew through the top floor of a skyscraper in Metal, but that was waaaay back then. Way, way, way back then.

Like almost two days or something.]

[Raise eyebrows all you want, Korra. Zatanna's only going to smirk back mischievously before casually changing the subject.]

Think you're up for a race?

[A challenge? Oh yes.]

I'll even give you a head start.

[She couldn't remember if she told the magician just how fast she had been able to go thus far, though Korra hadn't pushed it to the limit for fear just slamming into the barrier like she did on her first flight.]

Don't need one.

This isn't exactly my first race, you know.

[She's already gone toe-to-toe with Kyle, Tony, and Superman himself.]

It would be for me.

[She's just really confident about her newly acquired abilities. Whoever they belonged to was a very lucky person, in her opinion.

She squashes the now empty juice box and flicks it into the trash can at the park's entrance.]

Any rules?

Off the top of my head, none that we probably won't end up breaking anyway.

I'm thinking once around the sector, winner makes it back here first?

One lap it is. [Korra lifted into the air and floated as if she was laying on a couch.]

Loser buys the winner lunch. [Now this would be a test of whoever’s powers she had. Was she faster than magic?]

I think that's fair.

[Summoning up a bit of concentrated power, she draws a 'line' by their feet.]

On the count of three? One...two...

Three!

[She’s still there, as if she hadn’t moved at all. But she did, and the abrupt smile showed it.]

Wanna go again?

[...]

[Unamused magician is unamused.]

Cute.

[Korra’s tone is completely teasing.]

You said no rules.

[But Zatanna has such a cute, neutral-bordering-DONE look. Enough that Korra can’t help but actually giggle.]

Okay, okay. For real this time.

One. Two. Three!

[After the count, Korra pushes forward through the air and looks to see is Zatanna’s method of flight looks any different from hers.]

I said 'no rules', not 'no race at all'.

What's the point of doing what you want if it's not any fun, anyway?

[But she's smiling nevertheless, bracing herself for the second, actual countdown; when Korra turns back, she'll catch a glimpse of Zatanna levitating with a simple spell, a brief swirl of wind and smoke propelling her feet up into the air. Beyond that, she starts to navigate under her own power.]

[Weaving in between trees, Korra can see Zee’s magical propulsion between the occasional blur of leaves and branches.]

So is anyone giving you a bit too much heat over this?

[Because if they were, Korra wants names. It felt like she just got done taking some burden off of Zatanna and then the next day, it just got replaced.]

It's nothing I can't handle.

[And this much was true. The worst of it came from a pair of Wayne boys, father and son, who were glaring and scolding her verbally at worst. There was also Lois, but she hadn't seem much of the reporter since their initial exchange over the Network.]

Have you thought about working on it somewhere besides your suite, and, I don’t know, magic-ing yourself to look like someone else?

[If it was something Zatanna couldn’t handle, Korra’s very ready to jump in exercise her new might. However, if this is the case, it was the only best solution she could of off the top of her head.]

I would, except it doesn't really matter where I work on it.

That's why I've been sneaking out a bit when nobody was looking. For a three-floor suite, that place can get seriously claustrophobic at times. No wonder the boys are rarely home.

Yeah, you never really get used to it.

[That's thirteen of experience there.]

Glad you managed to get away unnoticed. I know what it's like when pretty much everyone is keeping their eye on you.

[Yeah, she remembers. Vividly.]

How's that working out for you, by the way? Most people cooled down yet?

I wouldn't say most, but some people actually know my name instead just 'that girl who burned down the clinic'.

[A shrug.]

It's getting there. Doesn't hurt that a lot of the new foreigners don't know about it. That would just rip off the scab, huh?

Huh. I wonder if I'll be known as 'that girl who exploded magic all over the Turtle'

And people used to think Zatanna Zatara was hard to say.

[It was a bit of a tongue twister, to be fair.]

Sorry, you're not going shake off 'Zee' that easily.

Look on the bright side, at least yours didn't endanger the lives of children and the elderly. You're not going to wake up at your friend's house scared out of your mind. And you didn't Didn't make your friends tell you what you did was wrong when it was just an accident.

[A beat.]

Well, I don't know about that last one.

I don't mind "Zee" so much, actually. I can't remember when people started calling me that, but it works for me.

...and, yeah, we might need a bit of leeway with some of that. Especially if ages really are being affected.

[Only she could find a whole new way to give Bruce Wayne a literal heart attack.]

I like it, takes the 'Atanna' out of the whole equation.

I don't see anything wrong with being a kid again really, but older. Wow, that one really threw me for a loop.

[Turning over onto her back so she was laying down while flying, Korra closes her eyes and smiles.]

But hey, you gave me the chance to actually fly. I'm okay with that.

{Zee, meanwhile, was on her stomach. Lazily enjoying the not-quite-race they were still having.]

I could've given you that chance at any time, honestly. All you ever had to do was ask.

But then I would have known it was coming. It's like a surprise.

[She snaps her finger as the thought hits her.]

Or like you and Jack said, it's like Christmas!

I'm not complaining about the speed and strength at all to be honest.
