I remember.
But are you telling me, all this time together, and you haven't picked up a trick or two?
no subject
[He picks up a napkin, carefully closes his fist around it and pushes the edges in until it's out of sight. Then he opens his hand and the napkin is gone.]
no subject
[The fork goes down so that she can give a light round of applause, folding her arms across the table and leaning forward.]
Impressive.
That's only half the trick, though. You have to make it reappear.
no subject
Maybe later. I've got to build up the suspense.
no subject
You're lucky I save my strongest levels of patience for magic tricks.
[Because otherwise, she would be looking for other ways to find that napkin.]
[The meal was resumed, but it was short-lived. A few last bites, and she was done.]
Alright, I'm tapping out. That was a lot more filling than I thought.
no subject
[He's a teenage boy, of course he eats spaghetti for breakfast.]
So, feeling up to sleep for a little while?
no subject
[She moves to start packing it up. There was a bit of storage space left in her kitchen downstairs.]
Would it make a difference if I said I wasn't?
no subject
no subject
You have a strategy.
Oh, this, I have to hear.
no subject
You didn't answer my question, by the way.
no subject
Has anyone ever told you you're kind of evil?
[She stood up, stretching her arms over her head. Actually sitting down in a fairly restful mood had drained most of her adrenaline. Now, she felt like a lethargic lump.]
I'll give it a shot, but I make no promises.
no subject
[He grins, but there's a promise in his words.]
Good, because I'm not leaving until you've fallen asleep.
no subject
[She circles around to come meet his gaze. Raising one eyebrow and smirking.]
I know this might come as a shock to you, but not everybody can fall asleep easier knowing they have an audience.
no subject
Oh, but I'm no ordinary audience.
no subject
Prove it.
no subject

[Very smooth. But this whole intervention was his idea, and she was starting to suspect she'd been far too compliant. Make things easy on him, and he might start to think she was listening to him. Couldn't have that, now.]
Make me.
[A grin. She was teasing, of course, but wanted to see what he would do. Because she was still only fifteen years old, no matter what the spell had done to her appearance. And also still Zatanna.]
no subject
Hope you don't mind if he picks you up bridal style and swings you around slightly, Zatanna.
Don't hex him too much.]no subject
[As a matter of fact, she does mind.]
[...okay, no, she really doesn't. Though that's not going to stop her from letting out a small shriek when he does it. The gesture was only partially a surprise. She did practically dare him to do it. And the laughter that escaped her probably made any further protests from that point on pretty pointless, anyway.]
Not one comment about my weight, you.
Remember: I just ate.
no subject
[He knows better, thank you.]
[He then sets her down on the couch gently.]
So, what do you think of step 1?
no subject
Not bad.
You've got my interest now.
[As opposed to every other time.]
[The height difference was accentuated by him hovering over her like that. She had to tilt her head back to continue meeting his gaze, fingers lightly grazing over the skin of his forearms. Already somewhat missing the warmth of his body heat when he'd held her.]
no subject
[He doesn't want to step away but, um, he probably should.
Making out is not sleeping.
So he sits on the ground in front of the couch, leaning back so he can meet her gaze.]
no subject
[No, no it is not. In fact, it would be just about the opposite of sleeping.]
[Zatanna tried not to look too disappointed when he pulled away. To cover it up, she repositioned herself so that she was laying fully across the couch, head resting on the armrest. Her eyes never once left his.]
no subject
He starts humming instead.
Welcome to step 2.]
