In any case the frown vanished at Korra's suggestion, only to be replaced by faint surprise.
"It's not as if he's the Aang I knew," she said after a moment. "You said you didn't want him to know too much about his future. Did Toph tell him about--" Me? "--us?"
no subject
“No, how could she? I never told her-” Her brow furrowed. The only other persons who knew were Tarrlok and Amon, both which Korra doubted would even bother on that bit of information.
“You told her?”
no subject
But that was irrelevant. For whatever reason, Amon hadn't decided to capitalize on that information, and she wasn't going to bring the possibility up now.
She shook her head. "Not my intention. But you remember those archways in Sinbrilee? We both wound up in one of them and I caught a glimpse of her early childhood. We talked. She figured out she had a daughter. By the time the Bacchanal rolled around, most of the pieces had settled into place, and I didn't see a point in beating around the bush."
That, and Toph's worries about being a mother had made withholding that information nearly impossible for her.
"I don't know if Aang knowing makes things more or less awkward."
no subject
“If she told him, all she told me was that he knows he’s on Tu Vishan now.” There was a slight edge to her voice. Aang had just arrived earlier that day and both Korra and Toph managed to press each other’s buttons. Their talk would happen tomorrow, even if Korra didn’t know it yet.
“But since she’s staying at the clinic, you can ask her.” After a beat, she continued. “If you guys are talking…?”
no subject
If she were perfectly honest with herself, she did want to see Aang again, even if it wasn't really going to be the same. Besides, they were bound to run into each other eventually. Better sooner than later, as far as she was concerned, and talking circles around Toph had been difficult enough. She didn't want to repeat the process with Aang.
Still, she pressed her lips together a moment. "Not yet. I wanted to give her some time. Didn't want to crowd her."
no subject
“No.” she answered quietly before taking another sip. At this point, she was still trying to figure out where exactly the wires got crossed between her and the young earthbender earlier in the day.
no subject
The briefest hesitation. Then: "Is she with Aang most of the time these days? It's probably a better idea to drop in when she's not there."
She wasn't the type to walk on eggshells around someone, and Korra of anyone would know that. But these were unusual circumstances.
no subject
“He’s my patient, so don’t worry about getting interrupted.” A smile because she did like that she could use her position as healer to help out Lin, even if it was for something like a clinical visit.
no subject
It was all she said for a moment. She leaned back against the desk, still trying to arrange her thoughts into some semblance of order.
If nothing else, she had finally begun to wrap her mind around the idea of Aang being here. (And at least, her traitorous brain supplied, it meant Korra would have an airbending teacher while they were all stuck here.) But the Aang lying in the clinic now wasn't the Aang she'd known as a child--not with half a war left to go through, and no idea what the future held. That was a topic to avoid. Assuming they had anything else to talk about.
Still, she'd never been one to doubt herself overmuch, and she didn't intend to make a habit of it now. Lin straightened minutely, folding her arms. "How much longer do you think he'll be in the hospital?"
no subject
“With the way it’s going, he’ll be probably be fully recovered by the end of the month if not sooner. I don’t know how long it took for him when Katara did it, but the water isn’t exactly the same.” She let out a low, dry laugh. It never occurred to her until just then why Aang had mistaken her for Katara at first.
Last time his life was save by a girl from the Southern Water Tribe, just like now.
“He really misses her.” She said off-handedly before she drank the last dregs of tea. It was something she felt when she first got here and didn’t have Mako.

As for Katara--
It was the little things here that got to you in the end. Not that Katara's not being here was insignificant--not by a long shot. But for some reason the absence of people you'd grown used to was harder to deal with than the other, greater inconveniences of living in a city on a turtle.
"Yes, well." A light huff, a wry, humorless twist of the lips. "I imagine he does."
no subject
Until he learned what she was anyway.
"So I’ve got to worry about explaining things to Aang and you have to worry about smoothing things over with Toph." She mused as she set the empty mug back on the desk. Whatever Korra and the young earthbender were at odds with would be easy to work out compared to Lin’s dilemma. She wasn’t even going to mention the police work she was burying herself under, probably on purpose.
"Never gets boring around here, huh?"
no subject
It was just as well Korra hadn't voiced her thoughts about the paperwork; she wasn't half wrong, as little as Lin would have liked to admit it. Tedious as the paperwork was, it was at least predictable. This business with Toph...wasn't.
"It's the lion turtle vacation of my dreams," she said dryly, straightening. "Don't let me keep you, Avatar. We've got a lot of work to do."
no subject
"Yeah, I’ve got a full plate too." She’s going to need all the rest she can get now that the clinic is going to have need of her every day. "Thanks for the tea, Chief." Even though she doesn’t hold that position here, Korra couldn’t see her being anything but. Leaving her to that paper work, Korra headed for the door so she could get some shut-eye.
