Situation: The kedan have decided to participate in an Earth tradition: Hallowe'en! But there are other mysterious things afoot this holiday and when people start disappearing they'll have to find a way to reverse the effect... though all of their selves might not make it back.

As the weather turns crisper, the nights and mornings carry with them a hint of chill promising cooler days to come, the month starts drawing to a close. This is a pleasant time, soon to be the season of harvest even on such a nomad as Tu Vishan. Yet the relations with the kedan have been good lately and even the Emperor's latest warning has not dampened the resilience of her people (both willing citizens and not) and so today marks a new tradition to Keeliai and it starts with receiving a simple, handwritten invitation.

"Come and celebrate the Keeliai of ages past..."

NOTE: NPC tagging will be mostly in the Palace Rewards and Touch of Memory threads unless specifically requested elsewhere! Normal rules for players writing NPC interactions remains the same as always.

MID PLOT UPDATE!
Through the course of investigations will be discovered that every Foreigner who went trick or treating has acquired themselves at least one pot of what appears to be iridescent paint, sometimes more than one. Experimenting with these pots (because lbr who doesn't want a few randomly shimmery possessions) oddly enough lets ghosted characters interact with them completely solidly. Which, if you've inadvertently been ignoring someone, might mean you get your new shiny lamp thrown at your head.

Now if people get the smart idea to the paint the paint, that would let ghosted characters get hold of this stuff themselves...

TL;DR - Ghosted characters can paint themselves back into phase. ~~Eating the stuff is also acceptable.~~

[ She just. Gives him a long "what the hell" look. ]

Yes? I mean, are you even listening to yourself? You're not even worried about the fact that we are intangible, that someone got blinded, and that no one has a way to solve this or even knows for sure what's happening. What the hell is your damage, Kyle?

[ This just keeps getting worse and worse. She finally found someone who should know what's going on and be able to work with her to figure things out, and he might as well be drunk for how messed up he seems. ]

[Under normal circumstances, he'd have blanched. He simply meets her gaze with a steady, composed one of his own. Utterly not bothered, except for the frown at the sharp tone and sharper questions.]

Nothing! [Irritable.] I just don't see why we should be upset. Nobody's dead or going to die, and all magic spells can be undone.

[He purses his lips. He should really be more afraid or more serious about this, but he can't bring himself to be, for some reason.]

[ She gives a small laugh, but it's not a happy one, more of a disbelieving and annoyed laugh. ]

Not upset? Right, sure, I'm going to be completely fine with the fact that no normal people can see or hear me and that I pass right through them, and that one of my best friends is apparently messed up in the head. Oh, I forgot the part where all the other people who haven't been messed up also don't seem to know what's going on. It's all very, very reassuring.

[ She changes back from sarcastically pretending to be amused to just flat out pissed and gives him a "come on, tell me I'm wrong, come at me bro" look. ]

[As he runs through the statement in his mind, he feels should be echoing her sentiments. This is not a situation any of them have ever encountered, Julie was blinded (and wasn't he terrified of the exact same thing?), and even Zatanna was at a total loss.]

[Olivia's right. Intellectually, he accepts it. Emotionally, the pieces aren't fitting together.]

C'mon! There's nothing to be scared of!

[A frown, he scratches his head, and mutters:]

That can't be right....

[ She gives a reeeaaally long and slow eye roll and gives an annoyed smile. ]

I know. That is what I've been trying to tell you this whole time, if you'd been listening to me.

[ She shakes her head. This isn't just a matter of not listening, it's more than that. ]

Clearly this is a bigger problem than that. Are you actually trying to tell me that you're not even the slightest bit frustrated or upset over this?

[A bit put-out:] I have been listening.

[He attempts to scrunch his face into something worried and fearful... and nothing happens. He can't do it, he doesn't feel the emotion intensely enough.... or at all, actually.]

No. I'm should be, and I'm trying... [Shakes his head. The absence of fear should cause fear too, because it's not natural, but nothing happens there either.] Something's wrong.

[ It feels like she's talking to a wall. Very flatly, almost through gritted teeth: ]

I had no idea. I absolutely haven't been saying that this whole time. You wouldn't happen to know what the problem is, aside from the whole lack of being able to interact with normal people, would you?

[Things are very difficult when one is physically incapable of expressing worry, because it has its roots in his fear.]

Ditch the sarcasm. I meant something's wrong with me, other than the intangible thing. This [he waves around them] is seriously probably magic.

[His face remembers what fear is like, but the rest of him doesn't, and so his expression ends up annoyed.]

There should be places where the dimensions aren't far apart. We might be able to appear to normal people there.

Yeah, I could tell there was something wrong with you. Maybe the whole part where you're not worried over any of this. I'm not an idiot, Kyle, and I know you better than that. Or did you miss the whole "one of my best friends" part?

[ Finally they are getting somewhere, though. She seems a fraction less agitated now that they have some direction to go in, and even manages to look away from him, making a visual sweep of the area. ]

Okay, so places where the dimensions are close. How are we going to be able to figure that out? It's not like I can just walk up to Walter and ask him to make us a machine.

[He hadn't, but he just glares at her in consternation and huffs.]

Could've just told me I was acting weird.

[He dismisses with a gesture, similar to chasing a bee away from him with his hand, and follows her line of sight around.]

It'll take days to search the city, but we can start with where we disappeared. I woke up like this, and so did Zatanna.

I was doing that, Kyle.

[ Seriously, he's like a wall. Did he not hear the whole slew of "what's your damage" comments earlier? ]

So you were asleep, and I was wandering around. Awake and surrounded by people. Suddenly they simply started passing through me. So I'm going to say the likelihood of that being one of the places we can get through isn't high. Or if we did cross over somehow, it shifted. Closed up. Something to that effect.

[Eyeroll, but he can leave it alone, it's not as important as finding a way out.]

What if they close and open at certain points?

[ She is starting to fidget even more. Quickly approaching maximum fidgety-ness. Staying still for this long is hard when she's so agitated. ]

Okay, so we need to find a way to detect these things. Can't you just, use your ring for that? Can't it do everything?

[There's just one problem with that suggestion.]

I don't have my ring.

[ Pause. Well that sucks. ]

So... We don't use your ring.

[ PLAN RUINED. They're never going to figure this out. No, no they will. She will make it happen if it's the last thing she does. ]

[Plan ruined indeed.]

Don't panic and find somebody else, hope they know what's happening?

[ That plan will be called "this plan freaking sucks." Sadly it's really all they have. ]
