EVENT | ALL HALLOWED
Characters: Everyone!
Date: Oct 27th - Nov 2nd
Location: The City of Keeliai
Situation: The kedan have decided to participate in an Earth tradition: Hallowe'en! But there are other mysterious things afoot this holiday and when people start disappearing they'll have to find a way to reverse the effect... though all of their selves might not make it back.
Warnings/Rating: Please indicate content warnings in subject headers as applicable.
As the weather turns crisper, the nights and mornings carry with them a hint of chill promising cooler days to come, the month starts drawing to a close. This is a pleasant time, soon to be the season of harvest even on such a nomad as Tu Vishan. Yet the relations with the kedan have been good lately and even the Emperor's latest warning has not dampened the resilience of her people (both willing citizens and not) and so today marks a new tradition to Keeliai and it starts with receiving a simple, handwritten invitation.
"Come and celebrate the Keeliai of ages past..."
OOC: See the OOC plotting post for event details and this post for assorted subheaders outlining various parts of the plot. Feel free to start your own thread header if none suit, or make your own logs for various threadings... this is just for a central post for the event. Any questions can be directed HERE. Thank you!
NOTE: NPC tagging will be mostly in the Palace Rewards and Touch of Memory threads unless specifically requested elsewhere! Normal rules for players writing NPC interactions remains the same as always.
MID PLOT UPDATE!
Through the course of investigations will be discovered that every Foreigner who went trick or treating has acquired themselves at least one pot of what appears to be iridescent paint, sometimes more than one. Experimenting with these pots (because lbr who doesn't want a few randomly shimmery possessions) oddly enough lets ghosted characters interact with them completely solidly. Which, if you've inadvertently been ignoring someone, might mean you get your new shiny lamp thrown at your head.
Now if people get the smart idea to the paint the paint, that would let ghosted characters get hold of this stuff themselves...
TL;DR - Ghosted characters can paint themselves back into phase.Eating the stuff is also acceptable.
I. GIVE A LITTLE, GET A LITTLE!
Trick or Treating (All Sectors) | Palace Rewards
II. SHADOWS AND SHADES
Tangible: Kedan Museum | Disappearances | Investigations
Ghosted: Sense of Loss | Touch of Memory | Shift of Perception | Poltergeisting

But hey, they tried!
In addition to these gift bags, some shops will be handing out pretty glass beads with colours that are reminiscent of that Sector. The beads are about the size of a large marble and if asked about them, the kedan will smile and nonchalantly say that they've heard a rumor about the Palace giving out a special surprise to anyone who collects a bead from every Sector.

Guess this answers your question, huh?
[For the record, Mark's dressed as his favorite hero, Science Dog. He... might have wasted a paycheck getting it custom made. In lieu of the mask, he's just wearing dog ears.]

That's right, it's this guy right here. Who says Trick and Treating is just for kids? Pshaaaaaw. Besides, its not like he has anything better to do anything - and the outfit provides a free costume.
So here he is, whizzing around sectors without a care in the world, sometimes doing vaguely dickish things, other times just having a ball and entertaining himself.]

[Even though he's dressed up as Superman, he's dropped the attempts to mimic him. His fourteen-year-old love of mischief has won out.]

But she's felt completely miserable lately and is desperate for something to shake up her feeling of ennui, so turtle land trick or treating it is. At least she can get more than candy. She's already gotten a pretty clip to put in her hair. And also some squid arms which she kindly discarded once she was out of sight of the giver. And the quest to find beads, now that's interesting enough to keep her moving.]

He's dressed up as a mad scientist with tousled curly hair, goggles resting on his forehead, a lab coat, and a pair of thick rubber gloves. He watched a few holos back home.
It isn't too hard to spot Clara in the crowd, so he walks over.]
Chaucer?
[He figures she'd dress up like someone from her books, but he couldn't tell who she was.]

They didn't celebrate Halloween on Midii's homeworld. Not the usual way. Or, if they did, she had never gotten the chance to. The notion of dressing up was intriguing enough, and although she didn't see the "fun" in purposely attempting to scare others with fake horrors, she had somehow ended up working at the Haunted House as a silent ghoul. A costume which she retained for this Trick Or Treating event people had been mentioning.
Though it wasn't the candy that interested her. Midii was on a mission to collect beads. Curious about what exactly they were, and this special surprise she'd heard whispers about.

Either way, could talk to people while wandering around. Right?

pick a scenario
[It's Halloween. The time of the year people threw free candy at you. Why the Hell would anyone except this ancient being to stay home? Yeah, sure, this holiday had it's down sides, but damn. Free candy.]
[So, Gabriel was decked out in the best possible costume he could come up with. A white bed sheet with a rope tied around his waist, a wire halo, and wings made out of clothes hangars and shredded garbage bags. Considering the massive amounts of irony, it was perfect.]
[He looked in his bag--debating on whether or not he should shift into a kid--to notice that these guys didn't really get the whole spirit of Halloween thing. He pulled out a wiggling tentacle, studying it with a scrunched nose for a moment.] I guess that's cool... [He dropped it back in the back, before looking at a colorful bead he got from that last guy...]
2
[Gabriel, about thirty minutes to an hour after first poking into his bag, was now running through the streets of Keeliai to find the other beads, bed sheets flying behind him. They said there was a prize and, since he wasn't going to get a load of candy, he might as well get the prize.]
Closed to Catty
no subject
Once upon a time, that would have thrown her for a loop. But after working undercover for the Atrox, Catty's not really in a place where she's going to question needing to be close to someone. Especially not when that someone is Vanessa.
Besides, it's only handholding. Friends hold hands all the time. She hums happily, bumping her shoulder into the other girl's. "Come on, we're goddesses. We're in costume every day, it totally counts."

He's dressed up as a mad scientist with tousled curly hair, goggles resting on his forehead, a lab coat, and a pair of thick rubber gloves. He has a plain cloth bag that already has a fair amount of trinkets in it. He doesn't intend on keeping most of it, though the colored beads are interesting.]
no subject
He's seeking out the beads, of course, but also keeping a wary eye on the comings and goings around town. A lot of criminals use the relative anonymity of costumes to commit their crimes. #Gothamlife Other crime fighters are probably keeping watch from the rooftops, so he's on the beat instead.
And will try his best to respond in character. 'Superman' is in.]
no subject
[He's dressed as the Flash, his favourite superhero, cowl down. It's Wally's costume, subtly different from Barry's, but the red and gold accomplishes the effect nonetheless.]
[He stops briefly at a corner to check his loot, humming Don't Stop Me Now.]

[And it was an excuse to dress up. Putting together an outfit wasn't difficult; what her sewing skills couldn't manage, her magic filled in the rest. She wanted to dress up as something that reminded her of home, but not too strongly, leading her to don a recognizable Wonder Woman costume. Even Zatanna herself was surprised at how much her skin and hair--and, for that matter, bright blue eyes--left her resembling the Amazonian Warrior Princess. Proudly so.]
[The top was strapless, of course, with only a pair of armbands providing cover, though she compensated by wearing skin-tone leggings beneath the corse, and tall boots. Beyond that, there was little shielding her from the brisk evening air. Faint goosebumps peppered her skin. She didn't seem to mind.]
[If anything, she seemed oblivious to the chill as she caught sight of a certain 'Superman' wandering the streets. Toying with the small piece of rope in her hand as she approached.]
Nice outfit.
Please tell me your father's already seen it. [She could just picture the linefacing in her mind's eye.]

[He lands next to the tiny Superman, laughter clear on his eyes. He's never been one for ego and all the Super-related Halloween costumes made him awkward at best, outright uncomfortable at worst. Sexy Supergirl? She wasn't even legal what the hell were people thinking? And let's not even get into Power Girl.
But for Dick, he always makes exceptions.]

So it is some sort of business transaction, he thinks: for all the talk about its being a foreigner holiday, he has never heard anything like it. The Irish aviators in the covert would speak of All Hallow's Eve, of course, but never mentioned anything about costumes, and it is still too early for Guy Fawkes Night, by his calendar.
He has managed to wrangle a few baggies from shopkeepers anyway, despite not being in costume; for some reason not all of the foreigners appreciate their contents. Crowded as the streets are, it is a little difficult to find someplace where he is not in the way, but he locates one after a moment and settles down to devour his squid arms and eyeballs while watching kedan and foreigner alike go past, with the all the interest of a patron at some fancy theatre.]

Enjolras
He DID already have the earring, and while Saint-Just was not so much a moral compass as he was a guideline for what to do, and sometimes what not to do, Enjolras still venerated the man well enough that he had pulled together enough of the right clothing, for the first time in his life, had curled his hair (and burnt some of it admittedly), and set back out to begin the rounds of the districts, feeling, perhaps a little odd about the whole thing, but determined to enjoy himself, regardless.
While dressed as Saint-Just. To anyone who recognized him, the effect was probably extremely terrifying.]

Of course, when she'd heard about the reward, she was much more interested, and thanked the Kedan before heading back to her suite. (the only 'costume' she had was her Abhorsen attire, but she was willing to play along) before heading out to the other sectors.]

"Come on!" she shouted exasperated at a kedan whose ability to speak English seemed to have evaporated. "Fucking enough already! What's a girl got to do in order to get some edible goods around here?!"

Superman | OTA
He'd thought about finding a dress to wear as Clark Kent, but in the end simply wearing the super-suit and flying around (hovering, actually... barely lifting his feet of the floor) as he watches the kids (and not-so-kids) have fun had seemed the easiest option.]
