Situation: The kedan have decided to participate in an Earth tradition: Hallowe'en! But there are other mysterious things afoot this holiday and when people start disappearing they'll have to find a way to reverse the effect... though all of their selves might not make it back.

As the weather turns crisper, the nights and mornings carry with them a hint of chill promising cooler days to come, the month starts drawing to a close. This is a pleasant time, soon to be the season of harvest even on such a nomad as Tu Vishan. Yet the relations with the kedan have been good lately and even the Emperor's latest warning has not dampened the resilience of her people (both willing citizens and not) and so today marks a new tradition to Keeliai and it starts with receiving a simple, handwritten invitation.

"Come and celebrate the Keeliai of ages past..."

NOTE: NPC tagging will be mostly in the Palace Rewards and Touch of Memory threads unless specifically requested elsewhere! Normal rules for players writing NPC interactions remains the same as always.

MID PLOT UPDATE!
Through the course of investigations will be discovered that every Foreigner who went trick or treating has acquired themselves at least one pot of what appears to be iridescent paint, sometimes more than one. Experimenting with these pots (because lbr who doesn't want a few randomly shimmery possessions) oddly enough lets ghosted characters interact with them completely solidly. Which, if you've inadvertently been ignoring someone, might mean you get your new shiny lamp thrown at your head.

Now if people get the smart idea to the paint the paint, that would let ghosted characters get hold of this stuff themselves...

TL;DR - Ghosted characters can paint themselves back into phase. Eating the stuff is also acceptable.

Oh, good.

[She's noticeably relieved and casually swings their arms between them.[

So how do we start?

[He likes this, this casual hand-holding and arm-swinging. Everything is so much easier this way.]

Well, we find our first booth, and...

[He approaches a clothing stall, with a cheerful-looking woman running the counter. And he holds out his bag.]

Yarr, trick or treat, lassie!

[watcheslanterns]

[Rapunzel follows his lead and holds out her own bag.]

Oh, yes! Trick or treat. [A beat.] Arrr.

[skybluejeep]

[A beat of his own, as they get their hand-wrapped, home-made candy.]

...I think that was quite possibly the cutest thing I've ever seen in my life. You're gonna give me a cute heart attack, woman.

[watcheslanterns]

[She looks surprised as her cheeks tint just the lightest shade of pink.]

What? Me?

[skybluejeep]

Yeah, you.

[He gives a wave to the woman, and steers Rapunzel on to the next booth, a dumb and affectionate grin on his face.]

It's just...you're so genuine, you know? You're you, one hundred percent. And that's just wonderful and adorable and nice.

[watcheslanterns]

[She shrugs and tucks some loose hair behind her ear.]

Well, I don't know how else to be, really.

[skybluejeep]

Which is what makes it genuine.

[He squeezes her hand, and nudges her shoulder with his own.]

Come on, next stall.

[watcheslanterns]

[She follows easily, and is ready with her bag by the next stall.]

Trick or treat!

[She's lost what little touch of pirate-speak she'd had in exchange for a bright smile for the stall owner.]

Trick or treat!

[This time, Stiles is surprised to see a flash of what looks like a jewel dropping into his bag; they've each gotten a big glass bead. As they walk away, he pulls his out of the bag and inspects it.]

...This is a weird treat.

[watcheslanterns]

[Rapunzel pulls her own bead out to get a better look.]

This isn't a usual kind of treat?

[skybluejeep]

Not...really? I mean, in all my many years as a trick or treater, I've never gotten a bead. Unless it was, like, from the crazy old demented lady that lived in my neighborhood.

[He holds it up to the light, inspecting it. It's pretty! But it's not candy damn it.]

[watcheslanterns]

[Rapunzel does the same and admires the colors reflected out of the beads.]

If you don't want it, I wouldn't mind keeping them. They're pretty.

[skybluejeep]

Yeah? Okay.

[And just like that, he drops it into her bag with a little bow.]

You can make a necklace out of them or something if we get any more.

[watcheslanterns]

That's a good idea! With how pretty they are I'm sure anything made with them will be even better.

[skybluejeep]

Exactly!

[Although now he's thinking that maybe he should be the one to make her the necklace. Hmm. Uh. But he's never done that before, except macaroni necklaces when he was a kid.]

C'mon, next booth.

[watcheslanterns]

Right!

[Rapunzel took his hand again and walked towards the next booth with a grin on her face.]

[skybluejeep]

[Yup. He's pondering. Pondering hard. And sure enough, the next business obliges them with candy and two more identical beads. He has no idea that they're supposed to be part of a collection...]

Hey, 'Punz? Can I, um. Actually have those beads? I have an idea for something to do with them.

[watcheslanterns]

[She looks at him curiously, but doesn't question him. Instead she pulls the beads out of her bag and hands them to him.]

Sure. I hope you'll let me see whatever it is when you're done.

[skybluejeep]

Oh, I absolutely will. Promise.

[The beads are dropped into his bag, and he takes her hand in his.]

Are you having fun so far?

[watcheslanterns]

[Rapunzel swings their hands again. She likes the feel of it as her fingers lace around Stiles']

I am! I've never done anything like it.

[skybluejeep]

I'm glad. We can make it a tradition, if we're here next Halloween too.

[watcheslanterns]

[Rapunzel has mixed feelings about that being a possibility, but she keeps them to herself and instead gives Stiles hand a gentle squeeze.]

I'd really like that. We'll have to come up with new costumes, right?

[skybluejeep]

[He does too. Lots of very mixed and confusing feelings.]

Yep. That's part of the fun of Halloween. Doing something new every year.

I'll have more time in that case, too. The costumes won't be so rushed.
