Light 'em up

Characters: EVERYBODY
Date: sundown on November 29th to sunrise on November 30th
Location: A plaza in Earth
Situation: The population of Keeliai could use a little warmth. So Chekov set stuff on fire and invited everyone over.
Warnings/Rating: None, but please put something in your comment header if necessary.

On Wednesday, everyone received the following audio message (and text attachments in English and Russian) from (1) Pavel Chekov in their inboxes:

“Hello. I would like to invite you to a bonfire in Earth sector on Friday at sundown. Please feel free to bring friends.”

A plaza in Earth sector is buzzing with activity-- most of it from one young man. He spends the day lugging folding tables and pushing wheelbarrows of supplies into the plaza. As the day wears on, several entrepreneurial kedan set up stands. By sundown, the plaza is lit up with three large, roaring bonfires. Most of the ice and snow has melted away, leaving a few patches here and there in the furthest corners of the plaza. One patch a bit away from the fires is completely devoid of snow and ice-- it's a sort of dance floor or performance area. Some music is playing out of one of the upper windows of the buildings overlooking the plaza. It's varies from quick and frenzied to slow and soothing. Of course, anyone is welcome to claim the floor to perform a magic show or do a little singing of their own.

There's a hodgepodge of various folding tables set with the essentials: raw vegetables, the closest equivalent of marshmallows Chekov could find (next to the chocolate and graham cracker substitutes), and sausages. There are skewers and tongs lying around should anyone need them. He also brought a few jugs of water, which are refilled periodically. It's not much, but it's the best he could do with a limited budget and not a lot of time. The kedan have taken the opportunity to sell what Chekov couldn't bring-- hot beverages and food, blankets, scarves and gloves, and several other simple wares.

It's not a grand setup, but there are roaring bonfires, food, and good company.

(Posting this slightly early because of Thanksgiving chaos. Let me know if you have any questions)

"You had the vacant but thoughtful look about you. I guess that gives you some points. So space cadet, lost in thought or was there something super interesting over there?" He jabs his thumb back, pointing in the rough area he saw Jack zoning out in.

Kon's smiling and not too worried about Jack.

"So how are ya?"

"I can do vacant with the best of them," Jack joked. His gaze flickered over to where several couples were cuddled together, then back to Kon. "Little of both, I guess. I'm good, liking this weather change as you can imagine. What have you been up to?"

"Ha beats summer, right? Me? Not much, hanging out with friends from home. Working, being a total borefest which so isn't like me. Glad it's snowing though, I'm a beach guy, but you can't have sandball fights or anything cool like that. And who doesn't want a super launched snowball hitting them?"

He's grinning but...not like he really does that. To non-metas anyway. You know, those that might break if they were hit by one.

"It beats summer only by about 1000 percent!" Jack answered happily. "And I'd take one! Tony already used his armor suit to even the odds against me."

"Pff! Well that gives me a little hope that I won't have to hold back as much. So how'd that go?"
wintershepherd: (smiles)

"It was awesome," Jack beamed, bright as a sunrise. "At first it was just spraying each other with snow and then I hit one like a baseball and I thought it was going-going-gone and then he flew and caught it. So we played a little bit of winter baseball."

"Oh man that sounds amazing! So glad there's adults here that know how to realy have fun!

Dude seriously, since getting here snow is defo cool. Uh no pun intended or anything."
wintershepherd: (whimsy)

[personal profile] wintershepherd 2013-12-14 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hey," Jack laughed. "I'm the last one to say anything against puns, especially of the cold themed variety."

"Well good, at least that's one person I don't have to worry around.

Looks like you didn't have to do the snow day."
wintershepherd: (playful)

[personal profile] wintershepherd 2013-12-18 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not this time," Jack nodded. "Honestly, this is better-- it being cold naturally. I can really feel the difference. Though when I tried to explain it for Zatanna, I ended up having to compare it to Coke and Diet Coke."
tactile_telekinesis: Made by <user name="nebulosities"> ([90's] And your point is?)

"Well hey, that's a pretty good comparison." The brand isn't something he knows, but it's not hard to work out the jist of what he means.

"I guess the simple ways kinda just click though? But I had no idea that your snow and natural were so different?"
wintershepherd: (glitter)

[personal profile] wintershepherd 2013-12-20 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"It probably doesn't feel different to anyone else," Jack replied, whirling a few snowy specks around his fingers to demonstrate. Regular snow with no interlaced magic, but it was still pretty the way he handled it.

"I can bring snow down naturally, or create it. This year the conditions are already here... last year, not so much."

Kon watches the flakes. Control over an element always seemed like a pretty awesome thing to be able to do. If there was a fire you could make it rain, or control water to douse the flames. Or create fire when it was freezing. Kon has a smile as he watches though.

"I can't tell the difference. I can see it though, like not as many people are running around having snow ball fights and stuff." He shrugs. "Seemed more fun last year. But then if you made it, that'd explain it, right?"
wintershepherd: (patient)

[personal profile] wintershepherd 2013-12-21 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah," Jack said softly and that part he could tell the difference for too. "But who knows? Maybe this year there can be... something."
