[This is what happens when you ask a Thénardier for a discount. Other options included buying an expensive wine and actually getting the discount wine for the price. Or severely watered-down wine. But that would get her fired, and Eponine does not wish to lose her job.]

Then you have not met my friends, mademoiselle! True, they are men, but they came here with me.

[superieure]

[She looks at Eponine with just enough interest; raises her eyebrows and smiles cordially.]

Then you must introduce me, of course.

[jondrette]

I shall. Though, perhaps you have met them already. The monsieurs Enjolras, Joly, Combeferre, Courfeyrac, Pontmercy and Bossuet. Formerly monsieur Jehan Prouvaire and [she swallows for a moment.] Gavroche.

Inspector Javert came with us as well, but he is no friend of ours.

Did you bring Jean Valjean as well?

[Yep, her first defence is always sarcasm, even if she's met Enjolras and talked to Bossuet. The entire thing is just ridiculous.]

[jondrette]

Whom?

[Monet is met with a blank look. How fitting, Eponine had no idea who this Valjean was. No, to her, he was M. Ultime Fauchelevant, the man in the yellow jacket who came to take the lark away.]

I know nothing of this Valjean you speak of. Though I suppose I should introduce myself: my name is Éponine.

[superieure]

Never mind. [Idly, quieter:] Victor Hugo would've loved this.

My name is Monet. Can you get me two of these? [pointing to the menu].

[jondrette]

[The bar was too loud to hear the comment about Hugo, though it would have mostly gone over her head. He had only just published Notre-Dame De Paris the year before her death.]

Pleasure to meet you, mademoiselle Monet. [Eponine glances at the list and nods.] Two it is. [She turned, grabbing the bottle off of the top-shelf and starting to pour two rather decent sized glasses.]

[superieure]

[There's a joke in here about cosplaying from French history. Monet won't make it right now.]

Merci. I plan to be here a while, will you be around?

[jondrette]

Of course. I do work here, and there is no place for me to return to off of this turtle. [A little blunt, but what was Eponine if not blunt? She hands Monet the glasses.]

[superieure]

[She's dead. It actually shocks Monet to think about, but she just offers a polite smile as she takes the glasses, and wanders off to find Layla.]
