[Oh god, she looks so excited. He hates to say it like this.]

Um. He said you were his sister.

I'm sorry, I barely knew him before he went back home. I met him once, because he was threatening my friend Isaac. Called him "Wooly Hair." It was...literally a two second reference.

[She tries not to let the sadness show. But at least he'd mentioned her. That was something. She nods tightly.]

I see. It is just as well. We were not as close as we should have been, when we were alive in Paris.
skybluejeep: (Incredulous)

[personal profile] skybluejeep 2014-02-13 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
[That makes him blink, and wonder. Uh?]

I'm sorry. That sucks. He seemed like a fun kid. Really, uh. Full of life. Or full of something, anyway.
jondrette: (pain)

[personal profile] jondrette 2014-02-13 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
He was. Thank you, Stiles. He was a better brother than I deserved.

[personal profile] skybluejeep 2014-02-13 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, hey, don't say that.

[That's a really sad thing. He knows from self-esteem issues, after all.]

You seem pretty cool too. I'm sure you were a great big sister.
jondrette: (angry)

[personal profile] jondrette 2014-02-13 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
No, I was not. But here, I tried.

[Her family is a very complicated subject, her feelings on them waxing and waning regularly. She'd cast aside them here, though. Her father, her mother, either as Jondrettes or Thénardiers.]

I don't think I am particularly 'cool'. But thank you- I assume it is a complement?
skybluejeep: (Confused)

[personal profile] skybluejeep 2014-02-13 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Definitely a compliment. Where are you from, seriously? I mean, France, yeah, but France when?
jondrette: (promise)

[personal profile] jondrette 2014-02-13 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
1832. [Cool is a complement. Just like hot was, if you asked Leo. Huh, "modern" slang was so interesting.]
skybluejeep: (Scuse me)

[personal profile] skybluejeep 2014-02-13 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Whoa.

[He looks stunned, and then thoughtful.]

That would explain the child labor thing.
jondrette: (confused)

[personal profile] jondrette 2014-02-13 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
And when are you from, Stiles? And where, certainly not France.
skybluejeep: (Curious)

[personal profile] skybluejeep 2014-02-13 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Beacon Hills, California. In the year 2011.

You seem to be doing really well, though. I mean, culture shock-wise. That's a pretty big jump in technology and everything to absorb.
jondrette: (binding breasts)

[personal profile] jondrette 2014-02-13 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
I do not know where California is. [But she's curious all the same.]

Thank you, monsieur. Somethings I still do not understand. But I am learning. My friend Midii does her best to teach me. But I have been here for some time. Near seven months now.
skybluejeep: (Cutie)

[personal profile] skybluejeep 2014-02-13 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
West coast of the United States. It was...just ratified as a state in your time, I think. Or just after. 1850? Yeah.

...Seven months, wow. I've been here about that long too. I can't believe this is the first time we've spoken.
jondrette: (broken smile)

[personal profile] jondrette 2014-02-13 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
1850 is after my time, yes.

[She considers this.] Well, now we have spoken, and we must be friends! We work here together, there is no reason not to make it so.
skybluejeep: (Finger)

[personal profile] skybluejeep 2014-02-13 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
I agree! Coworker buddies! And I can help fill you in on almost two hundred years of history and pop culture. I'm good at it, ask Rapunzel.

[He winks at her, joking.]
jondrette: (promise)

[personal profile] jondrette 2014-02-13 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Pop culture? [She raises an eyebrow.]

But you must tell me all it is you know! I should like to learn. I will have you know, I can read. [She's very proud of that fact, especially given how rare it is for women in her position to be able to do so.] Here! [She points at the beer menu.] Asti Ale, IPA. 4% APV.
skybluejeep: (Bwuhoh)

[personal profile] skybluejeep 2014-02-15 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[And Stiles, knowing a bit about history, knows how rare that is too.]

...Hey, good for you. You teach yourself?

And pop culture is, um. Wow hard to define. Um. Basically it's the result of mass media, and people hooking into memetic shared knowledge, forming a bond as a result. Wow, that came out better than expected, I should write a thesis.
jondrette: (confused)

[personal profile] jondrette 2014-02-16 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
No- my father helped. [her father who had taught her how to read and write to help out with Patron-Minette. Not so that she could be educated and well-read. All for selfish, terrible reasons.]

That is... [she frowns] quite complicated.
skybluejeep: (oooh gurl)

[personal profile] skybluejeep 2014-02-16 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
...Sorry. Sometimes my mouth does this thing where it just sorta goes. There's no holding it back, short of a muzzle. And I'm not into that sorta thing.
jondrette: (pain)

[personal profile] jondrette 2014-02-16 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[....]

You are a strange one, Stiles. But I like you. I have been told I do the same.
