Um. He said you were his sister.

I'm sorry, I barely knew him before he went back home. I met him once, because he was threatening my friend Isaac. Called him "Wooly Hair." It was...literally a two second reference.

[She tries not to let the sadness show. But at least he'd mentioned her. That was something. She nods tightly.]

I see. It is just as well. We were not as close as we should have been, when we were alive in Paris.

I'm sorry. That sucks. He seemed like a fun kid. Really, uh. Full of life. Or full of something, anyway.

He was. Thank you, Stiles. He was a better brother than I deserved.

No, I was not. But here, I tried.

[Her family is a very complicated subject, her feelings on them waxing and waning regularly. She'd cast aside them here, though. Her father, her mother, either as Jondrettes or Thénardiers.]

I don't think I am particularly 'cool'. But thank you- I assume it is a complement?

1832. [Cool is a complement. Just like hot was, if you asked Leo. Huh, "modern" slang was so interesting.]

And when are you from, Stiles? And where, certainly not France.

You seem to be doing really well, though. I mean, culture shock-wise. That's a pretty big jump in technology and everything to absorb.

I do not know where California is. [But she's curious all the same.]

Thank you, monsieur. Somethings I still do not understand. But I am learning. My friend Midii does her best to teach me. But I have been here for some time. Near seven months now.

Pop culture? [She raises an eyebrow.]

But you must tell me all it is you know! I should like to learn. I will have you know, I can read. [She's very proud of that fact, especially given how rare it is for women in her position to be able to do so.] Here! [She points at the beer menu.] Asti Ale, IPA. 4% APV.

[And Stiles, knowing a bit about history, knows how rare that is too.]

And pop culture is, um. Wow hard to define. Um. Basically it's the result of mass media, and people hooking into memetic shared knowledge, forming a bond as a result. Wow, that came out better than expected, I should write a thesis.

No- my father helped. [her father who had taught her how to read and write to help out with Patron-Minette. Not so that she could be educated and well-read. All for selfish, terrible reasons.]

That is... [she frowns] quite complicated.

...Sorry. Sometimes my mouth does this thing where it just sorta goes. There's no holding it back, short of a muzzle. And I'm not into that sorta thing.
