He owes me bail. I offered to punch a guy in the face for him. [This is how Bucky Barnes makes friends. Aren't you glad your kid is the more well behaved one, Jim?]

[And it's that sentence the one that gets Jim to put the book down, to his side.]

Punching, Buck? ['Only punching?']

[The fact that he's made Jim put his book down now sort of brings on the same slight shame he always felt when he thought Steve might be disappointed in him, so he just shrugs and crams his hands in his pockets as casually as he can.]

The guy was runnin' his mouth about Tony. I didn't actually punch him.

[His lips purse up- he'd actually been expected a bit more than punching, punching is like a 'hello' in the language of teen soldiers full of adrenaline. He'd know, he raised one- and is apparently halfway doing it all over again in this place.]

Stark has always been a powerful ally to have, but I didn't have him for someone who got people out of prison before they had paid for their mistakes.

[Jim would definitely know what it's like to be corralling teenage soldiers, but this time, Bucky hasn't actually done anything. Besides what landed him in jail.]

We're pals. He'd do me a favor. [Bucky shrugs a little uncomfortably. He respects Jim, he likes Jim, but he also doesn't think he's made a mistake tonight. It was a big fight, he didn't start it, can't blame a guy for getting wrapped up in it right?]

[Jim also has enough experience to know better than to try to convince them they have done something bad when they think otherwise- he's pretty sure it actually makes them stubbornly latch onto the idea what they did was justified more.

And maybe it was, in this case. Jim doesn't know, Jim just knows they ended up in prison and he'd rather not have that happening again.
]

Alright then, it's probably good he would because I honestly have no money. Say- how does justice work, in this place? Do they take foreigners for that kind of job?
beganwithamask: (sheepish)

[Jim is a great guy. He feels a little bad for dragging him out here to bail them out like this, mostly that he had to see his kid end up in the drunk tank with the rest of them.]

We've got a stash in the coffee can in the pantry, bottom shelf. That's where we put all our savings. [He pauses, face pressed lazily against the bars as he leans on them.}

Uh, they haven't in the past. I dunno, maybe they'll start, but usually we ain't allowed to join the police.

Pity, that. I'd have liked to join. [He wasn't a policeman for that long before he started focusing on war efforts, but it's still the most normal job he's ever had.]

Call Tony, Buck. But next time you end up in prison and someone needs to bail you out you might find your savings gone by the time you're out.

Would have been a better job than anything I've been able to get. [He's got to agree there, at least. Being a cop would be a better use of his skills than making deliveries and doing odd jobs.

He just makes a face at the next comment, sticking his tongue out at Jim.]
Ain't gonna be a next time. I don't get caught more than once.
