Situation: Yelena and Annabeth make trips to the mainland for adventures and exploring!

I care about very little. That does not mean I would not be interested in what you can say.

[sophos]

[She sort of narrows her eyes. The indifference but curiosity. And when she responds, it's not an answer at all.]

We've spoken before.

[demon_brat]

[Damian... doesn't react. Just keeps walking.]

What difference does it make if we have or haven't?

[But his mind is all red alerts.]

[sophos]

Not much of one, I guess.

[It's the slight familiarity in the way he regards her, a familiarity in how he speaks, the way they keep snapping at each other.] What's your name?

[She entirely expecting a codename, but she wants to ask anyway.]

[demon_brat]

Correct.

[He shrugs, the acrid wind picking up on the yellow cape.]

Robin. One of two currently operating out of Keeliai.

[sophos]

[She makes a monosyllabic noise, sort of a hmm but not quite.]

And you know who I am. [It's not a question.]

[demon_brat]

Batman is a detective, and so is Robin.

[It's an almost bland statement. Impersonal.]

It is my job to know.

[sophos]

Maybe so, but it's more than just your job in this case.

[demon_brat]

Is it? Why would you think that?

[glimmer of curiosity, there.]

[sophos]

From the way you're interacting with me. [Squints at him again.]

[demon_brat]

Why do you think it's different from how I interact with anybody else?

[Because, for all Damian is aware, it hasn't been. At least not on purpose. But what does he know?]

[sophos]

Because there's a certain familiarity in it. That you know who I am beyond the whole "my job to know" thing. Therefore, I probably know you, too.

[She knows she does now, for sure.]

[demon_brat]

[Damian considers that. He can keep on denying, of course. He probably should, even though that would be insulting her conclusions. So he - stalls more.]

And if you do? What would that mean, to you?

[sophos]

[She considers that.] Well, you're keeping it secret for a reason. It doesn't really mean much beyond my own curiosity.

[And she is so unbelievably determined to figure this out now. There's like what, a handful of kids on the turtle? She trails off in thought for a bit.]

[And slowly, a deep look of consideration and very slow not quite there realization etches onto her face.]

[demon_brat]

And what if somebody asked? What if somebody pushed you to find out?

[sophos]

You underestimate me if you think someone else could easily sway me like that.

[She's carrying on the conversation, but her brain is spinning a mile a minute at the same time.]

[demon_brat]

Those who go after Batman and Robin never go for 'easy,' woman. That is why there are masks in the first place.

[There may be a bit of a grump, in his voice.]

[sophos]

[Insta-frown.] And you think I don't know what hard is? [She's pretty much lost track of how many times she's come close to death at this point.]

[But honestly, all he's doing is making her more determined. It hasn't slipped her mind that he hasn't denied anything she's said yet - that means she's on the right track.] I get the secrecy thing and the need for it, but I'm not an idiot.

[She narrows her eyes. Almost there.]

[demon_brat]

No. I think you should not want more of it when you can avoid it.

[Low. Sharp. Yes, there is anger and irritation, but he's trying to keep it... something. Within the parameter of arguments that can be acceptable, rather than automatically discarded.]

I can deal with my own enemies. You don't have to, too.

[sophos]

Avoiding it's usually not possible for me. [She sounds annoyed, but at what that means more than the fact he said it.]

That'd be my choice, wouldn't it? Assuming you have that say over me is arrogant. [Haha that's hilarious Annabeth talking about arrogance.]

I do know you.

[demon_brat]

Then I'm arrogant.

[0 problem owning up to that.]

[However.]

Although I thought I was giving you arguments to make the reasonable choice, rather than the rash one.

[sophos]

Yeah, probably. [Good to see he admits it!]

It's reasonable to you. [But Annabeth likes to know things. Sometimes that desire to know pushes logic and rationale out of the way. Her tone has also taken a shift - she's pretty sure she's got this now, and there's new recognition in her tone. The arrogance sort of cinched it.]

[demon_brat]

And I've been given good reasons for it to be reasonable.

[Note: he didn't come up with them. He had to be convinced.]

[sophos]

I don't doubt that. People will find a reason for anything.

You're Damian, aren't you? [Between the skillset - though it wasn't like when she sparred with the kid before exactly - the attitude, the familiarity, the banter - not to mention a minimal pool of choices.]

[demon_brat]

Sometimes, those reasons are good.

[Siiiilence, but he doesn't break his stride.]
