Situation: To celebrate the six month hatching days of the baby turtles that coincides with the arrival of summer, the kedan are throwing a city wide party! And Asti gifts everyone with a happy dream to make up for the badness plaguing Keeliai lately.

While the kedan have a complicated and extensive system of writing, a good portion of their folklore is oral tradition and there's one prominent tale that's being told over and over this week. Small variances in the tale do occur from telling to telling but the core of the story goes like this:

Long ago before there were any people in the world, the First Family was made in the sky. Sun, the Mother and Moon, the Father were happy but desired children of their own. They watched all the creatures in the oceans, on the land and in the air and wished they could also have a family but they could not, for they didn't know how and so they were sad. They drifted apart, with Mother the Sun only coming out for part of the time and Father the Moon sometimes disappearing from the sky. Not wanting to see them so saddened, the creatures in all the lands and seas and air gathered together and searched their respective domains for children to give into the sky. From the four corners of the world they came with four children: one for the Dawn, one for the Midday, one for the Dusk and one for the Night. Mother the Sun and Father the Moon were overjoyed! They thanked the creatures of the world and promised they would never again abandon their places in the sky and became the First Family. And for a time, all was well. But Dawn and Midday and Dusk and Night grew older and, as children are wont to do, started asking when they could leave their home in the sky to begin their own families. Their parents were afraid of feeling so alone again if that happened so each year they said, "next year, next year". Eventually the children grew tired of this answer and so, sneaking into the place of the Stars where everything that was known was kept and they cut the end off of Time. The next time that their mother and father went to deny then, the children cried "You cannot say next year, for next year does not exist anymore!" And the Sun and Moon were afraid that if the children went away, then Time would indeed run out and so they agreed that their children could have families of their own, if they stayed and became the Second Family. The children agreed and even today, it is said that they are still waiting for the end of Time to grow back so they can visit other places without everything ending.

I see. Most people tend to pick up a trinket or two, even during such a short time frame.

[But he is not most people either; there's a good reason for the fact that the only object he could think of was his ring, a possession treasured for far more than sentimental reasons. He lifts his hand out of the water and shakes iit off.]

[The implication that such a thing was considered normal...well, it gave her a moment's pause. Wondering if there was something wrong with her that she had yet to form any personal attachment to any such trinkets.]

Items from places they wish to remember, I suppose. Things given to them by loved ones.

[He smiles haplessly at her.]

I'm must admit that I have had few such possessions in the past, and none at all here.

Then what would you submerge in water for the ritual?

I used something that was brought with me to this world. [He raises one hand, water still dripping from his ring.] I can think of no better possession than my ring.

[Ah!]

[Aya smiled warmly at the ring, pleased not only at its presence--had it been active just then, she would have felt even more than simply pleased--but also proud that Saint Walker would consider it to be a highly treasured item.]

I would be inclined to agree.

Perhaps if I were in possession of one, I might have done the same.

Your body is a fitting substitute. As I understand it, all the willpower that one's ring is meant to represent is not focused in an object for you - [he presses one hand to his chest] - but in here.

[That is one way of putting it, for certain.]

Yes.

It is because I was born of the being that inhabits the Oan Central Battery.

[Confidential information, to be sure...but Saint Walker was not only a friend and ally, but a fellow Lantern. One who had been chosen to further strengthen the abilities of a Green Lantern. If she could not trust him with the secrets of her birth, who could she trust?]

[Aya is simply full of surprises, as she is every day of her life. Saint Walker understands Aya as a living being the same as every other, but the bits and pieces that she is made up of, the mechanisms of her body, the nature of her birth... all of those are just as big of a mystery as any other being from another planet.]

I was not aware that the Oan Central Battery possessed such a being. The being in the Oan Central Battery - it wished to reproduce?

I..do not know, actually.

I remember nothing of the circumstances before Hal Jordan first brought me online on the Interceptor. I was not even aware I was alive until Green Lantern Kyle Rayner informed me.

[But it was first on her list to ask about when she returned home.]

I see.

[Is there a being inside the Blue Lantern Battery? Saint Walker wonders. He will have to ask Ganthet about it upon their return, he resolves, to learn more about who has been powering his ring all this time, and the nature of where it comes from.]

Regardless of where you came from, [he adds on with a small smile,] I believe that I could have also told you that you are alive.

[Has Razer been speaking to her about it prior to their arrival here? He wonders. He had had more than a few misgivings about the nature of Aya's existence, as Saint Walker recalls, but the boy hadn't been around long enough to speak of them in any greater detail.]

[He had told her nothing. He never had the time; she came to Keelai not long after they had left Odym.]
