Situation: To celebrate the six month hatching days of the baby turtles that coincides with the arrival of summer, the kedan are throwing a city wide party! And Asti gifts everyone with a happy dream to make up for the badness plaguing Keeliai lately.

While the kedan have a complicated and extensive system of writing, a good portion of their folklore is oral tradition and there's one prominent tale that's being told over and over this week. Small variances in the tale do occur from telling to telling but the core of the story goes like this:

Long ago before there were any people in the world, the First Family was made in the sky. Sun, the Mother and Moon, the Father were happy but desired children of their own. They watched all the creatures in the oceans, on the land and in the air and wished they could also have a family but they could not, for they didn't know how and so they were sad. They drifted apart, with Mother the Sun only coming out for part of the time and Father the Moon sometimes disappearing from the sky. Not wanting to see them so saddened, the creatures in all the lands and seas and air gathered together and searched their respective domains for children to give into the sky. From the four corners of the world they came with four children: one for the Dawn, one for the Midday, one for the Dusk and one for the Night. Mother the Sun and Father the Moon were overjoyed! They thanked the creatures of the world and promised they would never again abandon their places in the sky and became the First Family. And for a time, all was well. But Dawn and Midday and Dusk and Night grew older and, as children are wont to do, started asking when they could leave their home in the sky to begin their own families. Their parents were afraid of feeling so alone again if that happened so each year they said, "next year, next year". Eventually the children grew tired of this answer and so, sneaking into the place of the Stars where everything that was known was kept and they cut the end off of Time. The next time that their mother and father went to deny then, the children cried "You cannot say next year, for next year does not exist anymore!" And the Sun and Moon were afraid that if the children went away, then Time would indeed run out and so they agreed that their children could have families of their own, if they stayed and became the Second Family. The children agreed and even today, it is said that they are still waiting for the end of Time to grow back so they can visit other places without everything ending.

Akito tosses Hawke a look of surprise. "He visits me in mine, sometimes."

"Better yours than mine I suppose." Hawke's had visitors in his dreams before. It didn't really end well for everyone involved. The last thing he wants to do is traumatize another baby turtle.

He scuffs a foot on the ground, turning his attention back to Notch. "If you ever have bad dreams, you should see if he can help you keep them away." That might be part of the reason why Akito has been monopolizing Quintus' company overnight.

Notch's eyes linger on Hawke with that almost human level of intelligence. There's worry in those eyes and he rises to sit beside Hawke. Without even thinking, Hawke's hand moves to the his companion's head. A smirk crosses his lips.

"I think dreams are the least of my worries when there's a death god pretender living in the castle." Plus it would only be a temporary solution. Hawke doesn't plan on staying here.

That had been something Akito was actively avoiding thinking about. Maybe if his friends were here with him he would be more brave, and seeing Hawke with Notch just serves to drive home how alone he is right now. Without Notch to keep his hands occupied, Akito turns to picking at the hem of his sleeve instead.

"That will resolve itself with time."

Believe it or not Hawke knows exactly how Akito feels. This is possibly the most isolated he's ever been. The only thing familiar to him is Notch. Fortunately, he's met a few special people in this place to help fight back that feeling.

"I rather resolve it with the end of an axe. Feels more satisfying that way."

"I'll leave any cleaving to you then," he jokes, though he's also quite serious - if there's ever any fighting, Akito will leave any maiming to Hawke unless he has no other choice. "And I'll take care of Quintus while you do."

"People generally do. Amazing just how many problems that can solve." Honestly it's like no one even tries talking anymore. By the time Hawke shows up the weapons are already drawn. Then again that might be because Hawke shows up.

"At least I won't have that to worry about while I'm doing all the dirty work."

[akito]

Another scuff of his foot, accompanied by a small shrug. "Dirty, but effective."

"Of course, clean never gets the job done," Hawke says with a smirk. He fights dirty and plays dirty. When it comes to killing another person playing fair doesn't really exist. And now Hawke holds an even greater advantage. Maybe. If his dreams are to believed anyway.

[akito]

"Sometimes it does." He thinks back to all the subterfuge - missions where he had to go undercover and then betray the trust of the targets. It wasn't physically messy (unless they resisted their eventual arrest), but it was effective. "Messier methods are usually faster though."

"Fast is good. Honestly I can't stand to just wait around." Patience never has been one of Hawke's fortes. The man is far too eager to spring into action at any given moment. Notch barks in agreement beside Hawke.

"But there are some things that are better slow." Akito can't help but think of all the quick, stolen kisses he had with Ikki - something he'll never get to experience ever again, and wishes he could have spent more time doing. They're much better memories than the ones filled with pain and missions and constraints. He presses the tips of his fingers to his lips, remembering.

"I haven't found anything here worth taking slow." Less reminiscing now. "If we can take out Mal-chan fast it would be great. Fast and bloody and thorough. Everything here is better fast."

It becomes quite obvious to Hawke that Akito is thinking of something completely different right now. Briefly he considers asking what's wrong but decides against it. While Hawke's sense of curiosity might be dangerous to his own health at times, he doesn't normally push himself into his friend's business unless they ask. Usually.

"I think those three words describe me perfectly so don't worry about that," Hawke says adding more levity back into the conversation.

"I don't know if thorough is a good word for you," Akito jokes.

Hawke just smirks. "Then you clearly haven't seen me while I'm working." Because once he's involved with something he'll see it to the end. It doesn't matter if he starts it or someone else does. When all is said and done, Hawke makes sure there are no loose ends left no matter how long it takes.

[akito]

"I haven't," Akito confirms, suddenly curious.

"Of course not. You haven't needed to yet." Which is partly because Hawke spent a lot of time injured since knowing Akito and partly because things are fairly quiet in the city despite it being occupied by the enemy. Something that can't be good in the least.

[akito]

Admittedly, Akito finds it kind of weird that he hasn't needed to yet and says as much: "That's kind of weird, ne?"

That question derails Hawke and he looks confused for a moment. "What, that you haven't seen me kill people? It's not exactly something I do for the sake of doing. I'm not that crazy."

Sure most of his friends are people others would go out of their way to avoid and he willing puts himself in situations that would make most sane people turn white, but wanton murder isn't on his list yet. Well, at least not of innocent people anyway.

"Not that," he says quickly. "Just that things are so dangerous here, it's weird there hasn't been a situation since we met where it was necessary."

"Oh don't worry. I'm sure things will falling part around us soon enough," Hawke responds. Things never stay quiet long when he's around. He figures that most people who arrived here also have experience like that.

"Try to enjoy the calm while you can." That's how Hawke lives much of his life, enjoying what peace and quiet he gets before disaster strikes.
