EVENT | LANDFALL | VALISHAERA

Characters: ALL!
Date: JULY 13-26
Location: Valishaera
Situation: Tu Vishan has made landfall on Siaxhi, to explore the Dreaming Watch City of Valishaera.
Warnings/Rating: Please indicate content warnings in subject headers as applicable.

As Tu Vishan draws near, the heavy jungle visible even from miles out quickly identifies the landmass as Siaxhi, one of the westernmost continents in Konryu and one that has been largely untouched insofar as the kedan themselves have gone. There is a natural inlet along the southeast shore on the continent and Tu Vishan makes for that, though he fills nearly all of it.

What have you found?

[Yet implied he had been looking. Was looking.]
gathersnomoss: ({h neutral)

[personal profile] gathersnomoss 2014-07-15 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
A lot of history, but nothing I'm sure is relevant. I think. It's almost like a dream; I remember the facts, but ask me about the words and... [he shrugged]

[She took a moment to consider that. Almost like a Dream.]

Are you sure you're not confusing it for an actual dream you had? Maybe you fell asleep while you were reading.
unetrustworthy: (you followed me didn't you)

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2014-07-17 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Then that must be it.

There's no way you could forget reading something in a place like this.
gathersnomoss: ({h neutral)

[personal profile] gathersnomoss 2014-07-17 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Except maybe from sheer volume.
unetrustworthy: (hmm...)

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2014-07-18 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe.

But, even then, you'd still remember something. Even if it was just a few sentences here or there. You must've been dreaming.
gathersnomoss: ({h embarassed)

[personal profile] gathersnomoss 2014-07-19 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe. It's pretty tiring.
unetrustworthy: (waiting)

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2014-07-19 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
What, reading?

How can reading be tiring?

[She clearly wasn't thinking of the concept of a bedtime story.]

[personal profile] gathersnomoss 2014-07-19 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
If you do anything for hours on end, it can be tiring.
unetrustworthy: (...what do you mean?)

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2014-07-19 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
If you do anything for hours on end, you'll get a little tired, sure.

But don't you think the idea of getting to learn more about this place isn't worth staying awake for?
gathersnomoss: ({h embarassed)

[personal profile] gathersnomoss 2014-07-19 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. I just need to pace myself better.
unetrustworthy: (greeting)

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2014-07-19 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
If you're wasting all your time forgetting everything you've learned?

That might be best.
gathersnomoss: ({h happy)

[personal profile] gathersnomoss 2014-07-19 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
That and get something to take notes on.
unetrustworthy: (inquisitive)

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2014-07-19 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
There must be some paper somewhere. It's a library.
gathersnomoss: ({h happy)

[personal profile] gathersnomoss 2014-07-19 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
Paper or something. That's not in use as books.
unetrustworthy: (memoirs)

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2014-07-19 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen stranger things in this world.
gathersnomoss: ({h happy)

[personal profile] gathersnomoss 2014-07-19 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, but I'll stick to paper and pencil. I understand those.
unetrustworthy: (working in the kitchen)

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2014-07-19 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
[Sometimes, the simplest solution can be the best.]

Compared to what? A computer?
gathersnomoss: (Default)

[personal profile] gathersnomoss 2014-07-20 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Where I come from, unless you count a few complicated spells, the printing press and a fast horse is the height of communication technology.
unetrustworthy: (sarcasm)

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2014-07-21 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Her ears perked a little at the word "spells". More magic, then.]

How can you have something like magic, and yet no technology?
gathersnomoss: ({h determined)

[personal profile] gathersnomoss 2014-07-21 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
I wasn't aware the printing press was set down by the gods and not 'technology'.

[Because Zel is a bit sensitive in equating technology with 'all the tools you haven't developed']

But, think about it. Mages capable of casting flare arrow are common. Magic works in rain and doesn't go off accidentally, and doesn't require any preparation. Even if scholars note that gunpowder exists, most nations would rather pay sorcerers to improve fire magic than natural philosophers or alchemists or whatever to improve gunpowder.

We have gunpowder, by the way, but it was developed in a part of the world where magic wasn't as common. But, again, look at the printing press; it exists because no one's figured out a quick way to print things with magic. Dye spells exist, but they aren't as precise as a printer.
unetrustworthy: (you'll never survive like that)

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2014-07-21 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
[Not understanding completely how the two worked, Midii simply equated one evolutionary idea with another. People who were smart enough to lean the kinds of incredible things that magic could do...why couldn't they figure out others as well?]

But they exists together here. We have those computer consoles and other pieces of technology, but there's also magic.
gathersnomoss: ({h neutral)

[personal profile] gathersnomoss 2014-07-22 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe mages were less common, either now or in the past. Now that my part of the world has gunpowder, people use it because it does have some advantages over mages.
