Situation: Tu Vishan has made landfall on Siaxhi, to explore the Dreaming Watch City of Valishaera.
Warnings/Rating: Please indicate content warnings in subject headers as applicable.

As Tu Vishan draws near, the heavy jungle visible even from miles out quickly identifies the landmass as Siaxhi, one of the westernmost continents in Konryu and one that has been largely untouched insofar as the kedan themselves have gone. There is a natural inlet along the southeast shore on the continent and Tu Vishan makes for that, though he fills nearly all of it.

It's by chance that Nilin finds herself in the garden. The world around her is beautiful and it's calming to be where she is. Flowers like that are a rare sight back home. Neo-Paris, beautiful as it is, still lacks in the more natural creations of the world. Everything where she's from is man made, or at least heavily tampered with.

There's a peace to where she is in that moment, her footsteps light and barely heard over the sound of the fountains.

Hawke's arrival at the garden is only a matter of time. While they remain on this island he'll leave no stone unturned. This little discovery feels like a treat though. Which means Hawke half expects it might be some sort of trap. Letting his guard down becomes harder and harder for him as years pass.

While Notch runs about, terrifying some of the animals frequenting the garden, Hawke finds himself near one of the fountains. It's not long before he realizes that he has company.

"Fancy meeting you here."

Nilin turns to the voice and sighs. "So you know, I'm starting to think a restraining order is needed here."

There's amusement in her tone. Nilin loves their banter. "How is it that you continue to be everywhere I go?"

Unfortunately for Nilin, Hawke doesn't know what a restraining order might be. So instead he decides to turn it around on her. "Hmm, you know I can't say that I'd mind you restraining me." He flashes her a devious grin.

"Maybe you're just that lucky." His face shines with mirth. Their back and forth is one of his favorite things about her. It reminds him of old times with his friends. A shame that it took so long for him to meet her.

She rolls her eyes at his response. By this point she really should of known something like that was coming. Nilin shoots him a stern, but amused, look and turns her attention back to their surroundings.

"Or cursed, maybe." With those words, she nods her head for him to join her and resumes her walk about the place. The animals are of interest, though she's a little wary around them. "Have you seen anything like those back home?"

Hawke just continues to smile at her despite the look. By now he thinks he knows her well enough to know whether or not she were actually mad at him. He sees her amusement and his eyes shine with a playfulness that only his friends ever see.

"You like to hurt me so." Of course Hawke doesn't sound the least bit hurt by it. If anything it's encouragement for him to continue. He moves to follow beside her, studying the exotic animals around them while Notch continues to chase some about.

He points to a strange looking deer-like creature with horns that split and curve. "That looks like it might be a halla if it weren't so blue."

To his first words, Nilin just smirks. He's not the only one who likes their banter. When he points to the deer, she takes a moment to examine it before nodding. "Yes, we've got something like that too. Also, less blue. I've never seen one up close though."

Hell, she's hardly seen any animals up close. Her life, her city, just aren't quite open to that kind of thing.

"Maybe this one is just feeling a bit down." Hawke tries to keep a straight face at his own dumb joke but he just can't. A smile slowly spreads across his lips. His gaze turns just a fraction to see if it gets any sort of reaction from her.

"We can always try to get a little closer." If they move carefully and quietly he's certain they can get closer to the creature than they are now.

She rolls her eyes at the joke, but the smile on her face is real. "I'm game, provided you don't scare it off with that humour of yours."

But she's already quietened her step and is creeping towards the creature. If worst comes to worse, invisibility is an option for her.

The smile is all that matters then. "It hasn't scared you off yet," he notes, dropping his voice into a whisper.

When Hawke moves he makes no noise at all. It surprises some that he can even be so quiet given his usual subtlety. If he chooses to, Hawke could easily move about unseen. He just rarely chooses to do so.

They get almost withing touching distance of the deer creature. Hawke half expects it to suddenly whirl on them with a mouth full of dagger like teeth but it does no such thing. He finds himself enjoying this. Maybe they should do it more often so Nilin can see more animals firsthand.

Another smirk. Their banter is something she'll never tire of. As they creep forward, she stays close enough to whisper back without the creature hearing her. "I don't have much choice. You live in my building, after all."

His silence doesn't go unnoticed. It's yet another reminder of how much they don't know about each other. As for the creature, she follows his lead. Hawke's the one with proper experience with these kind of things, after all.

"You'd be bored to death if I weren't there," Hawke whispers back to her. To be honest, her company keeps him sane in this place. There's no place to explore on the turtle. Of course there's a war to fight but Hawke won't exactly call that a good time. Spending time with her makes him feel more at home.

His hand reaches to touch her arm softly, signalling her to stop. They're only a few feet away from the deer creature now. It's as close as they're likely to get. The creature turns its head towards them, noticing the pair for the first time and watches them. Without saying anything Hawke tuns his head and smiles at Nilin.

Nilin doesn't reply, but the smirk at her lips pulls to a small, amused smile. Silent, she continues to move forward, pausing only when his hand touches her arm.

She shoots him a brief glance, and then looks back to the animal before them. It sees them. They see it. In that moment she's not sure whether to fight, flee or do nothing. She settles for watching, ready to move at a moments notice. On this, she'll trust Hawke.

When Hawke notices Nilin growing tense, he slowly moves his hand and grips her wrist. He gives her a small, reassuring squeeze before letting go again. While he knows she trusts him, he also knows she knows next to nothing about animals. Something like this might be unsettling, especially when there's not telling what the animal actually is.

It watches them a few moments longer before the creature appears to lose interest and starts to graze. "Guess we aren't nearly as interesting as food," Hawke whispers to her.

The touch is unexpected, but while she tenses further at the contact, Nilin relaxes a moment after and nods. She's silent until he speaks again.

"Now that's something I won't be upset by. Look at those antlers. Would you want to be on it's bad side?"

Hawke scratches his beard as he looks at the creature's horns in an appraising manner. Finally he shrugs his shoulders and his tone turns unimpressed. "Honestly I've seen bigger."

In that peaceful moment, Hawke realizes it's a little too peaceful. Briefly he wonders just what Notch must be up to for him to get this quiet. So long as he's not getting himself into trouble.

[alterer]

A reply comes to mind, and while it's enough to make her smirk, Nilin doesn't say it out loud. "Bigger or not, my statement stands."

She falls quiet again, expression content as she watches the creature slowly start to move away. Then in the distance somewhere behind the animal, Nilin spots another creature. It's a small bear, black and white in colour and while moving, not like the other animals around them.

Her mouth falls slightly open at the side. "It can't be," Nilin says, voice little more than a whisper.

Hawke only barely hears what she says. "What can't be?" He follows her gaze and spots another strange creature though he's unsure of its significance. What he does notice is Notch creeping behind it. The hound is obviously interested in the small bear-like thing even if he hasn't got a clue what it is.

It makes Hawke roll his eyes. "Oh Maker what's he after this time..."

Nilin creeps forward a little more, careful to get out of range of the deer creature they'd been stalking a moment before. Once she's clear, she stands straight, moving quickly but quietly towards Notch and the bear.

"It's Jax," Nilin answers, amazement clear in her voice. "He's mine. From back home- How is that even possible?"

Hawke follows her, his interest lost on the deer. Now he's much more interested in this little bear thing that apparently she knows. She continues to be completely full of surprises.

"You're asking that in this place? I just say it's all magic and go about my day," Hawke responds though he knows the question was rhetorical. Notch continues to creep closer to Jax and begins pawing at it once he's close enough. One can almost see the gears in the hound's head spinning as he tries to figure out what it is.

[alterer]

"Magic doesn't exist where I'm from," Nilin answers, voice low and distracted. She's listening to him, but she's still trying to puzzle this one out otherwise.

"Jax!" It's worth a shot. Nilin calls to the bear, knowing that if it's not her Jax, it wouldn't react as hers would. Only the bear comes to a halt, turning to face her. Idly it reaches a hand up to pet Notch on the nose before starting towards Nilin and Hawke, arms outstretched as it goes.

"I'm not sure if I should pity you or envy you," Hawke replies with a small chuckle.

Then Hawke quiets and just watches. Notch sneezes at Jax's touch, then looks up as he finally notices the both of them. Hawke gives a short whistle calling Notch back to his side. The dog trots to him obediently but still watches Jax curiously. Hawke on the other hand, watches Nilin.

"I don't know. That seems pretty magical to me."

[alterer]

"He's an AI, a robot," she starts, pausing at the realization that he might not know what any of that is. "A... mechanical creature made by man. He's very smart."

There's affection in her tone. Nilin really loves that panda. She shoots Hawke a smile and starts towards Jax, scooping the bear up when she gets to him. "Jax, I can't believe you're here..."

The panda responds by throwing its arms up in victory before giving her a hug. Nilin can't stop a laugh. When she looks to Hawke again, that smile is a lot broader.

She's right of course. Hawke has no idea what an AI or robot might be. He's not even sure if he understands what she means by mechanical creature, but he at least thinks he does. "A tiny bear golem, just when I start thinking I've seen everything..."

Nilin's reaction is, well, it's adorable really. He's never seen her react quite like this to anything. Hawke enjoys seeing her like this, but what he likes most is seeing how wide her smile gets.

"Well, that's adorable."

"He was my best friend as a child."

Her only friend for far too long. Nilin holds the panda in her arms. The creature turns to face Hawke and look up at him. "Hawke, this is Jax. Jax, Hawke."
