EVENT | LANDFALL | VALISHAERA

Situation: Tu Vishan has made landfall on Siaxhi, to explore the Dreaming Watch City of Valishaera.

As Tu Vishan draws near, the heavy jungle visible even from miles out quickly identifies the landmass as Siaxhi, one of the westernmost continents in Konryu and one that has been largely untouched insofar as the kedan themselves have gone. There is a natural inlet along the southeast shore on the continent and Tu Vishan makes for that, though he fills nearly all of it.

Hawke just grins playfully at her, doing his best to appear innocent. He fails horribly at doing so but still he tries. "Well far be it from me to disappoint you," Hawke replies with a wink.

If Hawke were to travel with anyone, Nilin would definitely be at the top of that list. Her company is always more than welcome as far as he's concerned. There's just something that makes him more comfortable when he's around her.

She chuckles lightly and shakes her head. "Have you seen anything out there?" Nilin asks, motioning the way he came. "I feel... something. A power of sorts."

A challenge, more like. She's braced and ready for a fight but so far he's all she's found.

"Nothing but leaves, brush, and more leaves," Hawke answers with a shake of his head. His gaze turns towards the jungle around them, as if he's scanning for something just out of sight. "Can't shake the feeling that we're being watched."

Despite his grin, Hawke draws his weapons as he readies himself for anything. "Then again, that could just be my animal attrac-" Just then a snake larger than any he's seen before strikes from the bushes at his throat. His head rocks back, only just keeping the fangs from sinking into his neck before striking with an axe and slicing it in two.

She starts to move the moment the snake falls, eager to protect her friend whether he needs it or not. Hawke means something to her. Seeing him get hurt in anyway is something Nilin absolutely wants to avoid.

In the time it takes Hawke to slice the snake in two, Nilin is on full alert, her arm outstretched towards him and circles of data wrapped around her arm. A charged blast waits at her fingertips, ready to fire at her command. It's the first time she's really used her abilities around him.

"We should be on our guard, by the looks of it."

She drops her hand, any signs of what she just did gone in an instant.

His eyes move from the snake to Nilin and what she's doing. Hawke knows she can fight. Fighting the city's gangs was one of the first times they met face to face. However he's never seen her do anything like she's doing now. It's fascinating and confusing all at the same time.

After she lowers her arm he wants to ask her what that was, but decides that it might be best to wait. It reminds him that while she is still his closest friend, they know relatively little about each their pasts. Maybe when this is over he'll take some time to fix that.

Hawke continues to grip his axes tightly, not about to set them aside now they know actual danger is about. "Seems the wildlife here doesn't have a sense of humor."

He looks down to Notch who sniffs the snake's corpse experimentally. "And where were you? Don't tell your sniffer is stopped up."

The hound looks at Hawke and huffs once before dropping into a guarded stance.

There's a lot about herself that Nilin hasn't told anyone, be it here or back at home. This past few months has been different though. In Neo-Paris, she didn't need to say these things. People simply knew of her or witnessed it for themselves. Here, there's no one to spread the information.

She's not sure how to feel when he doesn't question her actions. On one hand, she appreciates the privacy. On the other, him asking would get to explaining something she's not sure where to start with.

"Either that or you need to work on your material," Nilin says, smirking. Her gaze moves skyward, from the direction the snake came. "I wonder, if we get higher, what would we see?"

And what else would try to kill them.

He appreciates privacy as well but in this whole time he's never said a word about himself either. Maybe it's because he never had to before now. His companions stood with him through the thick of most everything. They all know what he's been through. Nilin hasn't but he trusts her just as much. She deserves to know more about him as well.

"It's not my fault their humor is lacking," Hawke says, turning his nose towards the air in a haughty manner. It fades quickly into his wry grin from earlier.

His gaze then follows hers towards the canopy. "If I were to take a guess I would say even more trees. Only one way to find out though. Let me boost you up."

Moving to the nearest tree, Hawke laces his hands together in order to give her a boost into its branches.

Getting help in climbing is something Nilin isn't used to, but the offer is one she won't decline. For a second she watches him, then nods and moves to effortlessly place her foot on his hand to take that boost. The moment she's in the tree, Nilin climbs a few feet, each motion graceful and fluid.

After a moment she glances back down at him. "Do you want to come along, or would you rather stay there with Notch?"

For a moment, her grace in the tree briefly takes Hawke aback. He never thought anyone could move like that when they climbed. Just watching her makes Hawke feel like a klutz in comparison.

He looks to her, then down to Notch, and back to her again. Maybe he can't move like her but he's not about to decline the offer. "Bark if you see anything," he says to Notch before lifting an arm towards her.

She gets her grip, arm wrapped around a branch and footing set as she reaches to take his hand and pull him up towards her. Nilin isn't sure they'll even find anything up there, or if there will be anything more to see than treetops, but it's worth a shot.

That said, it's strange to have someone to climb with. Not for the first time, Nilin is reminded of how alone she is back home.

When she pulls him upwards Hawke clambers up the tree, throwing an arm around a nearby branch to help haul himself beside her. Below them Notch watches, then whines before standing guard at the base of the tree. Finally on his feet, Hawke heaves a breath. "You make this look a lot easier."

Hawke's not used to this kind of workout.

"I've had a lot of practice."

Once he's in the tree and has his footing, she let's him go and starts her climb. "The streets of Neo-Paris aren't exactly accessible for someone like me. Thus I find alternate routes to get me where I need to be."

Like rooftops and alleyways, not to mention breaching the occasional window to pass through a strangers home. Her trespassing is all for the greater cause, really. "Are you going to be alright?"

"You'll have to tell me about it sometime," Hawke says as she begins to ascend through the tree while he makes certain he has his balance on the branch. Hopefully that will get the ball rolling once they get back to the city in one piece.

Then Hawke scoffs in mock offense. "I think I can handle a tree thank you." Though he's not nearly as fast as her as he climbs and about as graceful as a cow in comparison. "Unless you're offering a piggyback ride."

"I might consider it," she says from above him, amusement clear in her tone. "If you can catch me."

What they're doing is serious and the danger is very real, but Nilin just can't help but throw lines back at him. "Or maybe--"

Nilin freezes, words cut short. With her free hand she motions for him to stop. In the tree across from them, draped across a branch is a rather large feline. By the look of it, it sure isn't happy to see them.

"Oh yeah? That's all I need to hear." He holds no belief that he'll actually catch her but it's hard not to banter while he's around her. It just comes naturally.

When she freezes so does he. It takes him a moment to spy the cat-like creature in the tree with them. There's no witty comment this time. Instead he pulls his throwing knife from his belt and flings it at the beast. Fighting it in the tree might not be the best plan but he's not taking time to think about this.

As the knife leaves his hand, the creature lunges for Nilin. She flings herself to the side, years of climbing and fast reflexes being put to test. Nilin catches the branch beside her and hangs from it with one arm. Quickly she finds support with at least one foot and as she does, her free hand raises to fire a blast of data at the big cat.

It's a bomb of sorts, a single heavy shot designed to do damage and stun whatever it hits.

"Nilin!" Even as he shouts her name he sees that's she's already on the move, moving faster in the trees than he could ever hope to do. Meanwhile he struggles to close the distance between himself and the fight happening above him. Hawke looks up just in time to watch in amazement as Nilin fires a blast of some kind of white energy at the creature.

Then he hears barking savagely. A quick look down shows him Notch barking madly and staring straight at him. It's a warning, but one that comes to late. He feels a heavy weight leap onto his back and teeth sink into his shoulder through his armor as a baboon-like creature attacks him. Some new predator taking advantage of his distraction as it goes for the slower, easier prey.

Hawke reacts the only way he can. He releases his grip on the branch and kicks off the tree, sending both him and this creature crashing to the earth below.

Blast fired, big cat downed however temporarily. Nilin hears his shout and turns her head in time to see him fall. "Hawke!" she yells, immediately moving to climb her way back down the way they've come. Once she's in reach of the ground, Nilin drops to her feet, landing with ease.

Falling to a fighting stance, a force forms around her, white squares projected from nowhere to shield her body. Her speed near triples from her already fast pace. Nilin launches herself into the fray, determined to fight off the other apes that come their way.

Without the boon he received from Asti that plan wouldn't have seemed nearly as good as an idea. While the turtle may have blessed Hawke with the ability to heal faster, Hawke found it did nothing to stop the pain. It takes a moment for his stunned mind to remember where he is and what's going on before he roles off the ape beneath him. Without any ceremony, he grabs his axe and finishes it with a quick chop.

Then he's on his feet. Though his bells are still ringing, he sees Nilin surrounded by the white energy from before and fighting faster than he thought could be possible. For a short moment Hawke just stares in amazement. A roar from Notch snaps him out of it and he sees the hound charge to her aid. Ignoring the pain, Hawke draws his second axe before rushing to her side. His blade flash but his eyes dart about, looking for any sign of the big cat that started this mess.

She moves quickly and quietly, shifting from offense to defense in an instant. She flips and dives, every motion flawless and well practiced, the woman delivering punches and kicks as she goes. Nilin is never in one place for long. Steady, steady, the creatures start to fall.

In an instant the white shield vanishes and her speed returns to normal. Thankfully by then, more than a few have been felled. "This isn't quite what I expected," she calls to Hawke. "Are you alright?"

Though he moves nothing like Nilin, there's grace to his own movements as well. His blades sing through the air as they cut flesh and fell creature after creature, twisting and dipping out of their reach as he does so. The deadly dance looks almost completely natural, like the whole thing was choreographed beforehand.

A quick kicks sends another ape creature sprawling. It struggles to get to its feet only to be brought down by Notch who pounces on it and savages it viciously. The other ape things flee now that the fight is no longer in their favor.

"Just took a tumble. My pride has survived worse," Hawke says. Already the pain begins to dim but he's not sure if it's do to Asti's gift or the adrenaline pumping through his body. "Tell me you got the cat."

For all that he's captivated by her fighting, Hawke has much the same effect on her. This is the first time they've both really fought around each other and it's an amazing thing. "I did, but I don't know for how long."

Nilin rolls her shoulders and scans the area. "Keep on your guard, Hawke. This is far from over."

"It's never over. There's always something bigger and badder lurking around the corner."

Despite his jokes, Hawke continues to watch their surroundings for sings of ambush. Slowly he backs up until his back touches Nilin's, holding his weapons at the ready. Notch stands beside them. A low growl rumbles within his chest that seems to resonate through the jungle.
