Extreme Makeover: Keeliai Edition - March Log

Location: The Palace of Landed Sky and surrounding environs
Situation: Let's tear this bitch down.
Warnings/Rating: Drug addiction/withdrawal references in the Dust threads, most likely

The demolition is now in full swing and will last until late March, largely run by Zanru and the Metalworkers (as part of the deal), though individual Foreigners can be hired to help (and the help would likely be appreciated, as the Foreigners are going to get some of this too). Hired Foreigners will report to Xuiyu, as Zanru herself is too busy to be on-site. Gene can be found helping with the destruction, in his armor more often than not, over the course of the demolition project, and answering questions and taking suggestions from Foreigners and kedan about what to do with the newly freed land.

However, from the 4th to the 11th, there is Dust contamination, which is sickening some of the workers - Foreigner and kedan alike. It's not too much of a hindrance, and the demolition seems to be on track to finish on-schedule, by March 21st.

Not that anyone's told me about, [Gene said, a little alarmed by the skip in her voice there. She didn't appear to be at her best.] Do they cause similar symptoms?

Similar, but not identical.

During my last exposure to them, my systems were...drained.

[It was not a pleasant memory to access, no matter the relevancy to her current situation.]

Removal from the source resulted in instant recovery.

Then let's move you somewhere else, [Gene said, and his tone made it clear that he'd brook no argument.] If there's anything like those yellow crystals buried in the palace that we haven't unearthed yet, we can at least see if getting you away from the source has an effect.

[She would have protested, except his words were logical, and congruent with her previous statement. Removal from the source...and if she had begun showing signs of systemic weakening, then the cause must have been somewhere in the immediate area.]

Stark Industries.

[Following along the line of logic.]

I have an arrangement with...Zanru. System repairs. Access when necessary.

Right, let's go, [Gene said authoritatively. He didn't know Aya that well, but he didn't want her to get sick. And he really didn't want to lose a worker, not when the demolition seemed to be going so well.]

Glad to hear you're on Zanru's good side. From what I hear, Tony hasn't had that kind of luck.

[She listened...mostly because she had no reason not to. And followed him.]

Yes, I have been informed of their past conversations, and subsequent reactions.

He requested my help in drafting a letter of apology.

[Gene raised a villainous eyebrow.] Did he? [That was certainly of note. He'd known that Tony had been trying to mend fences with the prickly leader of the Metalworkers, but he hadn't known about Aya's involvement as well.]

[Oh, sorry, was that supposed to be a secret?]

He did. Although I am remiss to admit...admit...[She froze in her step for a full second this time, though the reaction seemed...more organic than technical this time. A noticeable fluttering of her "eyelids", and rather than an automated glitch, she sounded tired.] ...apologize. I seem to be having difficulty focusing.

[Yeah, that was definitely some cause for concern.]

Let's get you to Stark Industries and see if that helps, [he said.] Or do you think you can make it that far?

[He can teleport the both of them, if need be.]

[looksfine]

I currently have no reason to think otherwise.

[Though she was also not certain of her own scanner judgements, given she had yet to recognize the degree of severity to the problem.]

Perhaps I have been using too much energy recently. Having yet to encounter a maximum amount before it has affected my processors, I remain uncertain of my precise limitations.

[wrathfulkhan]

Better safe than sorry, [Gene says, and the armor forms up around him in a blaze of light. When next he speaks, his voice is deepened and disguised by the filter.]

Take my hand. It'll be much quicker.

[He doesn't give even one half of a fuck that his armor is out in the open now.]

[Considering the non-construct parts of her physical form were essentially armor she wore all the time...Aya gave little more than a second's glance at the change. Though she was curious about why it was necessary, she still obliged by accepting his extended hand.]

[It's something to do with the amount of control he has over his powers, but all things considered, he wouldn't want to teleport Aya incorrectly - especially if she was already under the weather, as it were.

They disappeared in a ball of light and reappeared in an alley near Stark Industries. Gene dismissed the armor almost immediately, and stepped out into the light with Aya.]

Doing all right?

[looksfine]

[Her face appeared to be set in a look of pure surprise...but, aside from that, there were no immediate new power fluctuations.]

Yes. I...think so.

May I ask what you just did?

[wrathfulkhan]

I teleported us, [he said, belatedly realizing that he...hadn't actually told her what he'd be doing. Whoops.] I'm not certain how it works - but it's much quicker than walking.

[looksfine]

[Having yet to acquire such abilities of her own...Aya was momentarily intrigued.]

When I am once again performing at maximum capacity, I would like to experience your teleportation again.

...if that is alright with you.

[wrathfulkhan]

Sure, Gene said, steering Aya towards the building. He had to admit, he was curious about how the rings worked, but they hadn't done much more to test them since the first disastrous attempt back in September.]

I assume you know where we're going, [he said.] I'm mostly familiar with Tony's lab.

[looksfine]

[The statement gave her a moment's pause to process. Given what she knew of Tony and Zanru's latest...er...standing with one another...]

Are you referring to the laboratory he had established in his universe of origin?

[wrathfulkhan]

No, the one here. The one he used to use, I mean.

[looksfine]

[Ah, her error, then. Despite mutual acquaintances, Aya had spoken with him so little that she could not be certain how much of the previous Stark Industries he had witnessed.]

That is fortunate. The room I will find the supplies I need is located on the same hallway. Three doors down, on the opposite side, if you are to enter from the far elevator entrance.

Were you also an employee there?

[wrathfulkhan]

[Gene nodded as they continued towards the building.] I was. Mostly doing research on kedan magic, but I wasn't able to make much sense of it.

[looksfine]

[They made it to the front doors and headed inside. The secretary there was a regular, and seemed to recognize Aya's presence immediately. Though she appeared momentarily confused about the time until--]

[--Aya flickered again--]

[--and no questions were needed. The contract with Zanru stipulated unrestricted access to a pre-established list of resources in the event of emergency repair. Aya's presence alone would be enough to grant them moderate access.]

It is my understanding that, by definition, magic does not make much sense to begin with. It defies logic.

[wrathfulkhan]

[At least there seemed to be protocols in place for Aya's sudden illness. He accompanied her down the hallway.]

I've been trying to approach it as science we don't understand yet. With marginal success.

[looksfine]

[On the subject of illness...]

[She seemed to have been doing better for a time. But just before they reached the far elevator, Aya tripped. She didn't fall, but the stumble led her to slap into the adjacent wall. Head lowered as her vision momentarily blurred.]

This...does not make sense.

I am away from the source. Logically, I should be recovering.

[Gene braced Aya when she stumbled, not entirely enough to keep her from hitting the wall.]

Do you think it might be something else? Maybe the symptoms will abate with time.
