[EVENT | 4TH WALL] FIX IT FORTUITY | Feb 18-Mar 11
Characters: Everyone and anyone, including our visitors
Date: Feb 18, 2018-March 11, 2018
Location: This log can be used for anywhere to do with the fourth-wall event.
Situation: Many and various. There are a few starters in the comments below, or create your own!
Warnings/Rating: Please add warnings in subject headers as needed.
This year there's no sudden explosion to mark the influx of people. The weather is still faintly snowy, crisp and chill, and though there are days when the sun breaks through the clouds it doesn't do much to make things genuinely warmer.
Much like light slipping between the clouds, other Foreigners start slipping into the city, here and there. By this time the kedan and the anchored Foreigners know more than well enough what a Foreigner with no soul gem means, and by the time the third drifter has shown up it's considered sign enough for enthusiastic miniature pop-up markets to spring up where the snow is melting away, much like flowers.
Cheerful, profit-seeking flowers.
All the same, with the recent collaborations between Foreigners and kedan, the kedan are much more willing to look kindly on the newcomers-- at least so long as they don't cause too much trouble.
There's some speculation about what might be causing it -- the phenomenon comes earlier than it has before, not quite into spring yet -- but once objects start appearing and disappearing, it's safe to say the Dreaming can be blamed. As unpredictable as the Dreaming can be, this makes more than a few people relax-- at least it's a known unpredictability. The items that vanish are always of personal value, regardless of monetary worth, and they usually reappear later. And some items simply appear. Whether or not they'll stay forever remains to be seen, but it's always things with some emotional attachment, often which were on the mind or in conversation recently.
And often, the feeling of being watched, or that you've seen this thing before, no matter if it's impossible.

POP-UP MARKETS
Some of these stands are offering unusual fare: tours of Keeliai! Any new Foreigner who arrives during this time, whether with a soul gem or not, may find themselves being pitched about the many options Keeliai has to offer and that guides can ensure they see them all before their time is up here.
Dairine Callahan | Young Wizards
The young wizard stands in the middle of the market, scanning over her surroundings with a mix of irritation and curiosity. As much as being trapped here frustrated her, she couldn't help but wonder about the world around her.
First things first – she needs to do something about the cold. Having just arrived from spring break, Dairine is still wearing a geeky t-shirt, jeans, and very light jacket. Definitely not enough for winter weather. She pulls out what looks like an Apple Notebook (though the apple is noticeably missing its bitemark) and taps on the keys for a moment. Within a moment, she has a spell set up to keep her warm. No one will probably notice, she figures. Not unless they get awfully close to her.
With that out of the way, she spends some time to glance over some of the booths, hoping to take away more information rather than purchases.
*Waves* You have total permission to recognize Sheena...sadly, she won't recognize Dairine
Sheena's at one of the booths, in the middle of some good-natured banter with one of the Kedan over what they should mention on the tour. Like those Sea Prunes. Or at least put it in a guide somewhere. She had just opened her mouth to respond when she notices Dairine looking over the booth's tour offers. Getting a hunch, the ninja smiles at the young woman.
"Have you just arrived?"
*Waves back* Thanks!
hello dairine, have a robot
"'Xcuse me," he says, trotting up to her, his voice clearly synthesized, the accent South African. "Did you find that computer somewhere? I can't find my mummy's."
yay, a robot!
Mitsunari Ishida | Sengoku Basara
And so, the next time any kedan tries to sell him anything, he glares at them and says, "Give me a real map. Immediately!"

Bisi is immediately annoyed by the strange man's tone. That kind of outrage has no place, in her view.

Colette Brunel l Tales of Symphonia
[Especially if her klutziness ends up in activating more traps. Holes included for anyone to fall down. Even with her wings, it isn't something that can be helped. Sheena in particular is especially familiar with this, given how they first met.
Just as she might be about to agree, Colette steps forward, only to trip, though over what it might be unclear... Still, she flails a bit, instinctively pulling out her wings to help her balance in now hovering slightly.]
Ah, oops.....? Sorry?

When he reaches her side, Colette has left the ground entirely and not ended up face down instead. There's that apology of hers to go along with it. So far nothing's broken or been set off so he leaves it.]

Leah Clearwater | Twilight
"No, no, I don't want a sightseeing tour!" she barks at an unfortunate peddler, who has the bad luck of being the fourth one to stop her and tout all the wonders of this giant turtle.
"Giant turtle," she mutters under her breath, "first it's sparkling leeches, now it's giant turtles. What's next, pink unicorns?" Mind you, she'd take these over a Cullen any day of the week.
Someone touches her arm, and she rears around, snapping, "no, I don't want to buy a goddamn tour!"

Jacen Solo | Star Wars (Legends)
Though he is attracted when one of the natives offer up a tour. Actually there is one main selling point that definitely has Jacen reeled in entirely. "We can visit the turtle's head? So that's what we're standing on! I knew it was alive!"
Jacen may only look fourteen years old but he doesn't seem at all upset at being on a different planet or even that he's essentially been kidnapped from where he's supposed to be. The idea that he's standing on top of a giant creature's back is far more exciting than anything.
Vermouth | Detective Conan | OTA
Those who really knew her would be intimidated for far better reasons. For Chris Vineyard was just one of many names that this woman used, and it wasn't even her original name. The Organization knew her better as Vermouth. Their Boss was especially fond of her, and with good reason. Vermouth had the skills to infiltrate the trickiest areas and kill without pity. She at least still had a sense of humor, albeit a rather twisted one, unlike some members of her team.
In these situations, though, Chris Vineyard was a far more useful persona. She strolls through the crowd, browsing the garments on offer. Some extra clothing would be useful later. Chris will put up a friendly face if engaged. Someone exceptionally observant, however, might notice a sharper, threatening tinge behind her playful eyes.
FEEDING THE MASSES
While certainly not required, the new Foreigners are encouraged (sometimes heavily) to participate in these preparations. It's an opportunity to see the land outside Keeliai, although there are work areas at the College and several of the sectors like Metal and Earth that will take volunteers.
OTA, essentially.
So, partially out of her quest for explanations, and partially because Nita saw no harm in helping out, Nita had joined the preparation effort.

She can be seen near the construction at various times throughout her stay. Plants aren't really her specialty (that is her sister's thing). However, she does lend a hand in manufacturing and building. At this particular moment, Dairine is laboring over Spot the laptop, working out how to build a welding tool using only wizardry.

Tachikoma | Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
[ There is a car-sized blue tank in the streets, cruising about and looking at things with the wonder of a child. It doesn't seem to mind that people are a little boggled by its existence, although its taking care not to run into anything or anyone. It's quick to talk to anyone that seems to express an interest in communicating, however! It has a very vibrant and child-like voice for its menacing military appearance. ]
HELLO! Are you one of the 'foreigners'?? I have spoken to a number of 'Kedan' although I admit to some confusion about what the difference is??!!
2) Radio
[ Guess who just hacked into the radio network. ]
Wow!! I didn't expect there to be a radio network based on the technology level evident elsewhere here!
radio
While I concur that initial assessments of this world appear to lack higher functioning technological advances, I have also learned in my travels that it is better to not immediately submit to such pretenses without further inquiry.
[In short: don't judge a city by its lack of cyborgs and androids.]
Is there a particular technology you were searching for?

WATER SECTOR; closed to Zelos and Raine;
Straight into a canal.
Fortunately, not one he can't stand in. Even still, it's an exceedingly grumpy and blind necromancer who gropes his way along the edge of the canal, trying to find a place to pull himself up without crashing into anything. In the end he decides not to bother with the indignity, and in a lift of his palms creates a set of stairs he can walk up.
That still leaves him coatless, his shirt and waistcoat and trousers clinging, and shoes extraordinary wet, and approaching a level of cold he can't quite feel -- particularly with past historical issues with temperature.
And stuck in the middle of a sector he doesn't realise has changed at all until he walks into a construction site to rebuild a house.
A stream of impolite Irish ensues.
no subject
It makes him more sympathetic than he would be, even knowing he's probably wrong. There are tons of reasons someone would walk right into something, and none of them have to do with being blind. Some of them just have to do with being an idiot.
Still, sympathy's sympathy, so Zelos changes course and comes to a stop nearby. "Heeeeey," he starts off, arms folded and leaning casually against the standing support beam in question. "Can't help but notice you're having some trouble there. Need a hand?"

Lloyd Irving | Tales of Symphonia
[Taking a tour was all well and good but Lloyd has to strike out on his own at some point. It's actually rather hard to miss this kid with his blazing red coat and dual swords strapped to his belts strolling around the city. He's more than happy to use some of his gald to get a wide variety of items from interesting food stuff to other random objects. The natives seem just as glad to get the money and Lloyd has plenty to spend.
Honestly though, he just wants a good look around. To explore it and see it for himself rather than through the filtered opinion of one of the natives. It certainly means he gets around.]
Water Sector
[There's so much about this world that's new and exciting, a whole new world to explore and he can kind of see why his father would choose to find new ones. None of this is exactly what he'd planned to do after the worlds were reunited but he's here now so he might as well make the most of it.
Which is how he's found himself standing at the edge of one of the docks to the canals, staring down into a boat.]
At least it's not a washtub.
Streets of Keeliai
[ Bisi is trying to buy some dried food. She's much more used to long-lasting dried rations than the fresh food that's readily available, and since she can buy it in bulk she doesn't have to go shopping for it as often. ]
(no subject)
Water Sector
It is.
For a minute or so, Zelos doesn't actually do anything. He stands a short distance back from the canal, staring at those familiar red clothes with the familiar pair of swords, uncharacteristically unsure. Uncharacteristically afraid. Even knowing their last memories are probably completely different, Zelos can't stand the thought of going to say hi and getting nothing but a suspicious stare in return.
Well, he won't know until he tries. Deep breath, smile on, saunter over like he doesn't have a care in the world.]
Ugh, those washtubs! I don't know how you guys stand 'em.

[ Not too far from where he's standing is a woman with her back to him, who at first glance may seem familiar because of her curves and purple hair. But something isn't right. Could be the Kedan fashion she's wearing or the length of her hair--which flows to about midway down her back.
But the voice is one he definitely knows, the owner revealed when she turns and gives him a soft smile.
And probably a hell of a shock when he sees she's aged a few years. ]

Jacen Solo | Star Wars (Legends)
It appeared that no one in the city had pets and it's very likely that Jacen won't get to bring one home with him but that doesn't stop him from finding each and every new creature he can. They mostly seemed to be kept as work animals or for the sake of food though that hardly made a difference to this kid. Jacen has no problem locating the nearest kirin and getting as close to it as possible. While he is murmuring soft words of comfort, one of his hands is reaching out so that it can get a good sniff.
Since it is fairly domesticated in comparison to some of the other animals Jacen has encountered it doesn't take much for him to soothe the beast - both with his words and by manipulating the Force a little. Soon enough he's running a hand over the scales of the kirin in a gentle fashion while allowing the creature to stick its nose in his hair.
"That's not food, you know." His tone is one of amusement more than anything else. "If you're that hungry, I'll find you something better to eat."
Anywhere - Option B
He's essentially just looking around the city, exploring it while searching for anyone he might know because there's someone here who has a connection to the Force. Two someones and Jacen is certain one of those individuals is his twin sister while the other is... not an individual he actually knew but had the sense that he probably doesn't want to run into. So far the natives of the world are pretty friendly towards him even though Jacen doesn't have much to offer them in return. Unfortunately his pockets had been mostly empty when he'd been dragged here and the one thing he does have is not something he's going to just hand over.
Instead Jacen can offer everyone something else. "Can I ask you something?"
No don't do it - it's a trick, a trap. Something horrible is probably going to happen.
