Everything's Better Down Where It's Wetter [reasonably open]

Characters: lots of them
Date: landfall (Apr 7-13)
Location: coastal waters and beaches around Atam
Situation: fish people and the people who manage to put up with themlove them
Warnings/Rating: None anticipated, but individual posters should warn in the subject line if relevant.

From the event post:
Come on in, the water's great! The fish are happy and well cared for, the water is tropical (which goes for any beach bunnies in our midst, not just the fish people!) There's also the ruins of an approximately iron-age city sunk just off the coast for anyone who can swim to explore! It's visible about four meters down. It's mostly old buildings, walkways/etc, that are covered in ocean detritus. Some things could be brought back to the surface. Maybe you'll even find old treasure? Who knows! Have fun exploring.
OOC: This is the catchall log for Ocean Shenanigans. This includes water-breathers on holiday, air-breathers with high lung capacity, scuba gear, mysterious powers, or a water-breather willing to spot 'em, and perhaps even air-breathers who've recruited water-breathing help to skip the checkpoint and sneak into Atam, which is doable if they're careful. /drevil.jpg

[The water warmer than he's used to out here, but it's nice to get off the turtle-back for a while, to take a brief rest from the stress of the deterioration of the Water Sector. Arthur's 'slumming it' in the sea this week, and he seems perfectly content to explore the sunken city or chill on a large rock in shallower waters, visible to anyone on shore, sometimes chatting with a colorful fish or two.

He's also carting around a large, solid-gold looking trident, which implies that he's been into town (he didn't find it himself, but he's got plans to stop by soon), but he definitely hasn't been through the quarantine station. If you'd like a little Atlantean help getting past security, give him a call.]

[Mera is spending the week in the ocean, enjoying the warm water. She can be found floating around, under the water exploring the sunken city or sitting on shore. She spends a lot of time by Arthur's side but she's by herself a lot too.

For any air breathers that want help sneaking by security, she's willing. Her powers allow her to make bubbles of hardened water that contain oxygen. Sort of like air tanks]

[Mera is currently floating off to Arthur's side and playfully splashes some water at him] I still can't believe your trident was just sitting in a shop gathering dust.

[He chuckles a little, lazily drifting over to wrap an arm around her waist.] I can't believe someone else picked it up before I managed to. And for twelve juulan, no wonder it was gathering dust. No one here would be able to use it.

[She's okay with this. Hi husband]

Well yes I suppose for everyone else here it would just be a useless trinket, wouldn't it?
relentlesstide: (fond)

[Hi wife. He's just going to drift here in this hug for now, letting the trident fall gently down to the rock below. The current feels nice, actually; they might sleep in saltwater still, but it isn't the same without the movement.]

Fortunately. It means no one else in the JLA gives me dirty looks for not retrieving it fast enough, at least. [He can't imagine Bats or Supes would be too happy with magic artifacts from their world being loose in the foreigner population, even if it's just the Trident of Neptune.] Should we go scavenging again this afternoon?
relentlesstide: (wry smile)

[personal profile] relentlesstide 2013-04-09 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
[It's nice to see you looking chipper again Nita!] The Trident of Neptune from home, apparently it was gathering dust in a junk shop in the city. [He chuckles a little.] Can you believe they charged twelve juulan for something no one else can use?
andaway: (Did you ever believe?)

[In one of her trips under the water, Mera will find herself facing Superman as he holds his breath. He's holding something between his hands and pointing up, trying to tell her to meet him where there's air.

He might be able to hold his breath enough for these long trips but he still needs air to talk.

[Kal happens to come across Arthur as he... appears to be talking to those fishes he has around him, looking expectantly. As you do. After years working with him in the League things like these still surprise him. And amuse him a bit, if he's honest.

But then he notices something and frowns, as he lands next to him.
] Arthur, is that your trident?

[Mera is a little surprised to suddenly be face to face with Superman. To say the least. She didn't have very many encounters with him at home so this is a new thing for her. But she smiles when he points up, nodding and swimming for the surface. Silly surface dwellers and their need for air to talk]

I'm sure they wouldn't be happy with you for leaving a magical artifact sitting around where anyone could get it, no. [With their luck someone would find a way to make it work for them]

If you'd like. It's so nice to have a real ocean to explore again. It feels like it's been forever.

[This is also kind of new for him but as long as people from his world are in this place he isn't going to waste the opportunity to bond with them.

He takes a lungful of fresh air as soon as he gets his head out of the water- he can stay without breathing a lot but it doesn't mean he likes it. Call it a habit.
]

I hope I didn't interrupt you?

Let's not mention this to Batman. He probably already knows, but when he gets like that, I just want to punch him. [He and Bruce mostly spend their time posturing at each other like a couple of alpha males. When they aren't occasionally being friends. It's complicated. But he doesn't want a lecture about magic artifacts falling into other hands, because no matter how much Arthur protests that he would have just stormed in with the other Atlanteans to retrieve it...]

Humans lose all kinds of things in the oceans that they don't bother to recover, we might even find something useful. [Juulan, maybe. Or gold or silver. It doesn't hurt to stockpile funds when rationing is in place and you've got a wife and teenager to look out for.] The waters are nice out here, aren't they?
relentlesstide: (huh)

[personal profile] relentlesstide 2013-04-14 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Different Neptune, different trident. Also sometimes comic book writers switch it up with the Trident of Poseidon and no one can fucking tell the difference.]

No, something about the magic in it can only be tapped into by 'Neptune's Chosen'. Back home that was me, and my son after he was able to handle it without it... affecting him.
relentlesstide: (explaining)

[personal profile] relentlesstide 2013-04-14 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
[You'd be surprised what kind of information you can get from marine life. Humans tend to disregard them, leaving them free to watch and learn; these fish, though, only seem to know that they're occasionally hunted for food but are generally happy. Still, they're fascinated by a person who can communicate with them, he's already gotten them calling him Swimmer.

The fish scatter when Clark lands near them, and Arthur surfaces; he was only a few feet under, trident on his back.]
It is. A young... necromancer... found it gathering dust in a junk shop on the mainland. It's definitely mine from home, though.

I haven't met Batman. [But from what she's heard about him from Arthur, he's probably lurking in the shadows somewhere. It makes Mera slightly uncomfortable]

Gold and jewels is what we usually find. Along with garbage. Perhaps we'll be lucky out here too. [Extra funds never hurt] They are. Clean and warm. Emphasis on the clean, since that seems to be becoming a luxury for us.
queenoftheseas: (pic#5832787)

[personal profile] queenoftheseas 2013-04-14 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no, you didn't. I was just floating around. [She lifts a hand from the water to comb it through her hair] Did you need something?
relentlesstide: ([mera] hug)

[personal profile] relentlesstide 2013-04-14 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
You probably don't want to. [He leans in to press a kiss to her cheek. But he has likely mentioned that Bruce tends to keep an eye on things; there's a reason Arthur doesn't talk much on the consoles when it isn't necessary or he doesn't want the conversation going semi-public.]

I'm a bit surprised the waters are so clean. Maybe these beings have gotten past dumping their trash in the ocean like savages. [He breaks away after a moment and another kiss pressed to her temple to retrieve his trident from where it had drifted.] Let's go see what we can find.
relentlesstide: (somewhat pleasant)

[personal profile] relentlesstide 2013-04-14 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[Better than having Neptune and Poseidon being separate gods with their own tridents and still mixing them up.]

The sea gods, at least, seem to be fairly consistent from world to world. [Poseidon seems to be a thing in at least three worlds that he knows of.]

Sure, I don't see why not. [He's not in any kind of ruler or leader capacity here, it won't be damaging any images to have someone not in his royal family casually waving around his magic trident.]
relentlesstide: (chillin')

[personal profile] relentlesstide 2013-04-15 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
Your form is excellent. [He sits back to watch, fairly impressed but not surprised that she knows how to use a trident. It's a very Atlantean weapon, and that seems to hold constant as well. He's mildly surprised when the magic in it actually responds to her touch, though. She can probably feel it, a sort of swelling of power that feels very much of the ocean and ancient gods.

If she cares to figure it out, she can probably make whirlpools or some shit with it! Controlling water is fun. For the moment, though, he'll chalk it up to the trident responding to another Atlantean in a world with very few of them.]
