Closed; Finnick
Weaving her way between the four waist high baskets, Korra got to the door of suite and hesitated before knocking. Dawn wasn’t the best time to be doing this, and she felt especially bad because normally Korra would be sleeping in. If anyone had knocked on her door at this hour, she’d make them regret unless it was for a good reason.
A good reason; yes, this should definitely count as a good reason.
Steeling herself, she knocked hard on the door. Korra really liked her job and the hours, or minutes rather, were perfect for her. Losing it over upsetting her boss would be a serious blow. Hoping Finnick was more of a morning person than she was, Korra adjusted her hair and rubbed her eyes.]
slides on in, a thousand years later
He slipped out of the bed, making sure Katniss was still asleep before leaving the room. The girl on fire, on the other, was not the greatest of morning people, and he'd rather she slept instead of trying to shoot whoever it was.
Finnick answered the door in his boxers - if they were coming to bother him this early, they could get used to seeing him without clothes. A grin tugged at his lips when he saw Korra on the other side.] Now this is the kind of wake up call I could get used to.
I WOULD HAVE WAITED ANOTHER 8,001 K? <3
I mean, I just- I was able to catch some…
[She’s doing her best to look him directly in the eye instead of everywhere else.]
I met my quota. [That was just kind of blurted out. Really, she just met her quota for who knows how long considering each baskets had several hundred fish in them.]
goodness /swoons
[He glances around her at the fish she's brought.] Are you sure you didn't just catch the entire ocean, Korra? [There's an easy laugh that escapes him.] I don't think the fish will fit in the suite, but you're more than welcome to come in, if you'd like. I can make breakfast.
<3
[Taking a deep breath while doing her best to maintain eye contact with Finnick, there was an inhuman groan that came from Korra’s stomach at the mention of breakfast, and that just caused her to suck her lips in so she bite down on them. As if that would somehow tell her stomach to SHUT UP.]
Umm, no. I don’t want to impose or anything. I kind of, haven’t slept. [For almost a week.]
no subject
[He hears that growl from her stomach and doesn't bother hiding the way he's laughing at her.] It's not imposing, but sleep is probably important, too. Don't push yourself again like that. You're not about to lose your job, Korra.
no subject
[As if her cheeks weren’t already warm, the laughing caused them to redden further, her embarrassment getting the best of her.]
I had to, last night was the full moon and that’s when waterb- [Cutting off at that, Korra just sighed. Even though Finnick was awake, she didn’t want to overload him with useless information about her bending on top of the fish. Well, it was useless to her now that the sun was up.]
I’m just glad I didn’t wake you up. [She couldn’t help but wonder if he just always paraded around in his shorts like that.] I didn’t have time to freeze them, that would have taken too long.
[There had actually been seven baskets, not four. But Korra had those stored at her suite for friends that needed the food. Mainly the turtle brothers and her dragon friends.]
no subject
Poor thing. He stops laughing, but the amused glint in his eyes is still there, as well as the smirk.
He raises an eyebrow at her when she stops speaking, filing it away for the moment to ask about later.]
I'm an early riser. [Yes, basically.] Not a problem. I can hit the markets early, get a leg up on any competition. [Not that the competition can honestly keep up with him anyway.]
no subject
I’m not, I usually sleep in. [Fishing close to noon was usually the case with her.] I didn’t think you’d have competition anymore with the way you’re going. [Korra had paid attention to Finnick’s network post about hiring additional workers.]
Should I bring these inside? [Korra wasn’t about to just leave Finnick to tote around heavy baskets laden with fish, the additional water weight that was kept them barely alive wasn’t helping anything. Making sure they were still alive would mean they could be fresh later.]
no subject
Yeah. Better to not let them sit out here where anyone can steal them. [He steps outside and reaches for a basket.] I can bring them down to the market when Sleeping Beauty in there wakes up.
no subject
Sleeping B-
[Holding the basket, Korra stared at Finnick.]
You have company? But I thought- [The pieces were slowly starting to connect.]
no subject
There's a beat before he laughs, like the idea of him and Katniss is the most hilarious thought in the world. Let's be real, it is the most ridiculous thing.]
A friend. We take turns spending the night with each other. [He doesn't explain why. He likes Korra, but she doesn't need to know about their nightmares, the need for human contact to keep them sane.]
no subject
Um, wow. Okay. Then I definitely shouldn’t be having breakfast here. Sorry, if I knew I would have waited.
[It was odd, she wasn’t sure what to say because he had told her it was fine before and seemed comfortable now, but that was usually something Korra knew to be more of a private thing. Not something to be shared with employees. Let alone younger employees. Was she younger than Traci?]
no subject
[It's one of the most honest things he's said, and it's definitely evident in the tone of his voice.] You're still welcome for breakfast.
[As for age, he thinks she's old enough to hear something like this concerning sex, but he's pretty messed up.]
no subject
I think I would like that.
[Hefting one basket just inside, Korra fetched another one in the same manner. She did her best to keep attention to just the fish and off Finnick putting his muscles to work.]
Since you have more than just me fishing, how do you get all these to where they need to go in one day? [He did like to sell them fresh and had multiple set ups in other sectors, so how he managed that had been a curiosity for her. One that found this the perfect opportunity to manifest itself.]
no subject
Good. It's nothing fancy, but I have bread and jam and some fruit.
[He picks up the other basket with a grunt, muscles flexing as he puts it down inside.] I usually pay a few kedan for a cart to take them where I need to go. Juulan talks.
[With a grin, he nods toward the kitchen.] Go ahead on in. I'll get dressed. [With that, he heads back to the bedroom to grab a shirt and some pants to slip into.]
no subject
So you don’t have any hired carriers, is that because it’s cheaper that way?
[Business and finances were not strong suits for Korra. In fact this had been the first time she had personal income, and all she really did was save it. Spending it felt odd.]
no subject
She's a weird girl.] I'd have to buy carts and pay carriers, when I can just pay the kedan who already have the carts. I'd rather pay the fishers.
no subject
Then you could pay them half what you pay the kedan. [Folding the bread in itself, Korra held it up in thanks before stuffing in her mouth and spoke with her cheeks bulging.]
Then you could even get to sleep in and not your fishers knocking on your door at dawn o'clock.
[How she managed to speak with her mouth full was only an answer her parents could give.]
no subject
Also he is suitable impressed by the way she eats and still talks. At least he knows CPR if she ends up choking.]
Would you want the job? I can purchase a cart today.
no subject
ifwhen I get my bending back. Then I can just earthbend to make good time.[Finally, Korra swallowed the bread and folded her arms.]
Unless you have anyone else who can fly or just magically get them where they need to be.
no subject
Everyone is impressive. And a threat. And potential allies. It's all a bit confusing in Finnick Odair's head.]
How much extra are we talking here? [He takes a bite of his bread.]
no subject
[Negotiating pay? Not a strong suit of Korra’s in the least. She’s never had to before.]
Um, less than what you were paying those kedan? [She shrugged her shoulders helplessly. If only Mako was here to help her out, he ran numbers before. He knew the money game. But there was a chance he might never even show up on Tu Vishan.] I don’t know, whatever makes sense to you I guess.
[Korra shamelessly dipped her finger into the jar and scooped out some jam on her finger.] You’re the boss, not me.
no subject
[He can already tell that she's a pitiful negotiator, but money isn't as important to him as other things, and he doesn't need it as much as others do. So while he could bargain for less, he'll pay her what he deserves.
Still, he's quiet for a moment, as if thinking it over.] I think that I could pay you a little bit more than what I pay them. [After all, she's doing both fishing and hauling. The girl deserves more.
He smiles when she dips her finger into his jar.] Consider that part of your payment, too.
no subject
But I do like the jam part. [Wiping her finger off on her pants, Korra screwed the lid back on the jam.] We can keep that part. I’m just about out of floating fruit jam.
