Aihsohlow | Phorezton | Markutte | Countryside
The commerce town of the tried. Temperatures within the dome are kept at a lofty 18C (62F) year round and the population of Markutte dresses less in furs and more in linens obtained through trade. Their long hair is frequently shorn short in the current fashion and they are, on the whole, less hardy than their kin in Phorezton and Aihsohlow, but even more friendly as they are currently in the throes of the Harvest Haul, a festival that concludes their rare growing seasons and agricultural bounties.
Trade. That's the foundation of Markutte and there are three town squares that are home to transient stalls and merchandise from the country and all surviving areas of Konryu. Many kedan have made their way here and occupy the occasional stall space, selling their wares and exchanging gifts with the citizens as they grasp the nature of the festival underway. Once again, visitors that make the trek here are expected to donate a gift that will be regifted at random, earning access and a stamp of their tin visa that resembles the oblong crystal coin used as currency in this realm.
Police are on the lookout for financial crimes here and will demand visas of any they suspect to be committed fraud, short-selling merchants, or thieving in any way, shape, or form. There are three vistas, one in each market square, upon which heralds stand and announce the crimes and punishments noted of the previous day. Minor theft is common and the punishment is a brand upon the criminal's neck; major theft results in a loss of a finger for each item stolen; fraud here is punishable by death, but only twice will there be an announcement of an execution during the landfall.
The auctions here are quite lively and characters can expect a minor bidding war to obtain their items, but each item is in pristine condition and provided to them wrapped within a thin set of furs as a thanks for their purchase.

Working for Wayne and Stark simultaneously has (quite literally) paid off. The Vulcan lute-come-harp that Spock first espies is an instant purchase though it cuts through his savings quite dramatically, entirely worth it for the sound the strings make when he trails his fingertips over it while sitting on a bench in Markutte, no longer wrapped up in a dozen layers owing to the wonderfully lofty temperature. He remains there for a good half-hour, strumming lightly and adjusting the dials as old songs fall through nimble fingers from an eidetic memory.
Maybe there are a few more modern notes in there as well, shh.
Dec 6th, Day #4.
Dec 9th, Day #7.
Back in Markutte three days after exploring Aihsohlow, Spock stands in the middle of the auction yet again, this time staring at a netted bunch of hard bottle-green plants cradled almost protectively in his hands. Turnips, to the unknowing eye; plomeek, to a more than casual observer. He has no idea what to do with himself and moves through the crowd with his head down, holding the produce close as if it qualifies as a precious stone.
For once, he isn't looking where he's going. ]
Day 1.
[Stopping in the middle of the busy intersection, she rests her hands on her hips and surveys the area, and then her gaze falls on Spock. She makes a beeline for him, fascinated by the instrument.]
I didn't know you played.

It was a past-time as a child. I competed in the All-Vulcan Music Competition, but my proficiency was surpassed by that of my father's. [ Her iPod gets a nod. ] You have also found an item from your world?
no subject
Lovely.
[She manages a sliver of sincerity. Layla likes Spock, after all, for some bizarre reason Monet can't fathom.]
There's a few of mine, yes. Have you seen Layla or perhaps Rictor?
no subject
[ That seems strange, especially considering they might get lost forever in this place. ]
no subject
No, I don't have any more of the local currency.
no subject
[ It's then that he starts re-wrapping the lute in the soft furs the auctioneers used, rising once it's slung on his back. ]

no subject
Would you care for me to purchase it on your behalf?
no subject
[It's a sign of how attached she is to that simple object, that the statement is completely sincere.]

Day 7
[However, he does stop for a moment to look at his lusus in fond regard, reaching up to pat his snout, not noticing the oncoming Vulcan till he's more or less ran into him. Of course, Eridan responds with an annoyed snarl, shooting a glare--but that look disappears right away once he notices who it is.]
Hey Spock, you'd do well to keep your ganderbulbs in front a you, instead a starin' at--[His eyebrows rise as he stares at the turnip-looking thing Spock is cradling like some sort of treasure.] - uh, that.
What ewen is that?
no subject
Plomeek, vegetables from my home-planet. I did not ... anticipate finding them here. [ The giant seahorse is enough to have him arching a brow. ] You have purchased a steed?
no subject
Not just a steed--he's uh. My lusus. [He seems to be in disbelief of it himself as he answers. It's really strange to have found him here, let alone alive. Eridan's hardly complaining.]
Which is pretty fuckin' weird because... well, he's dead. Was dead, I guess.

Yeah we will be. There's plenty a room for the two a us. He ain't too rambunctious or suchlike.
[A beat.]
So you gonna make that soup a yours with those? Or you got somethin' else in mind?
no subject
[ He's going to guard them so. Intently. Might even put them under his bed in a box to keep them safe. ]
Will you join me in a meal?
no subject
[How depressing!]
I'd bloody lowe to.

I could attempt to create a food synthesizer much like those we use on the Enterprise, but with limited technology here it would be ... problematic, at best. I have been experiencing some deficiencies in my dietary requirements, I admit.

day 1
What kind of instrument is that?
no subject
A Vulcan lute. Are you a musician?
no subject
Not really. I understand the technical side of music, but the creative side eludes me. [But his shrug seems to imply that the lack of skill doesn't bother him. Everyone has their strengths; music simply isn't one of his.] I'm not familiar with the term Vulcan though. Is it a particular brand?
[Sorry Spock.....]
