Situation: The rationing is officially lifted and the kedan are celebrating by conducting one citywide yard sale! Think big! Think small! Think tribbles! Think all!

The morning of the 21st kicks off with heralds roving about the city of Keeliai to declare that the rationing edict has been lifted and that citizens no longer have to contribute one-fifth of their productions (juulan or physical goods) to the communal stores maintained by the police force. These announcements trigger a state of celebration across the city as kedan drag months worth of hoarded items to the street to sell, steal, or trade in a wave of mercantile goodness that stretches for nearly a week. Not even the rising tide of tribbles seems to dampen their spirit, with kedan citywide finding new and inventive uses for the fuzzy paperweights.

Characters are free to do as they will during this event, with police oversight relaxed in the aftermath of the long rationing and strained relations. Impromptu sales out of suites will rarely be inspected and purchase made elsewhere are no longer monitored. Everyone is taking a breath of fresh air, so to speak, and most do not want their first fun in months to be ruined.

Oh, too long, already. Going back now it must be, oh, eight months? And you, Dinah? I try to keep up, but I've fallen behind lately.

More like two months. And I don't think I'm ever on that thing, so don't feel bad.

Not feeling bad is how I prefer it to be. Here, let's try something else. [Like a magpie, Dorian is drawn to some very nice jewellery, emphasis on the 'jewels.'] That sunstone has a perfect red to it.

[She follows him to the jewelry, with a critical eye for design and color, subconsciously thumbing her engagement ring as she does (this is not the most artistic design, but it's sentimental)]

It does, but I hardly think it's edible.

Not entirely out of the question, depending on the stone. Diamond encrusted cake doesn't taste any better, of course—unless you are someone who particularly enjoys the taste of conspicuous consumption. Which I occasionally am, if not today.

[He likes things that are pretty like this, and he can't help lingering a moment to admire them.]

I don't know, though.

[She's looking at the stones as well, fighting the urge to try them on despite knowing she can't afford them.]

Cut diamonds would mess up your gut on the way down.

They're also far less interesting than other stones. [Dorian is not so good at self-restraint. He lifts a chrysoberyl up with a sigh. He should not waste money on gemstones.] What do you say? Worth it?

Don't ask me. I've never been know to have impulse control. [About anything.]

Totally, definitely, worth it.

Thank God Bruce overpays me. [Congrats, Dinah: you enabled Dorian into buying a gem he has absolutely no need of. Money exchanged (after the appropriate bartering) Dorian tucks it away in his pocket.] Back to food, I think.

Oh, good, because I really want to try those things.

[Completely unselfconsciously, she reaches for his wrist to pull him towards a sample table set out by a restaurant that smells rather like ginger.]

Bruce Wayne?

That's the one. [He lifts it up and breathes it in. A sigh of pleasure—how he loves the smell—and he offers one to her.] You know him?

I know of him. [Without hesitation. 'Bruce Wayne' is as distant a concept to her as it would be if she wasn't friends with Batman. She smiles and takes the offered morsel, taking a few seconds just to bite and enjoy the taste.]

I grew up in Gotham City, it was hard not to know of the Waynes.

Plural? [Dorian leans back, a hand slipping into his coat pocket to rub the gemstone.] I shouldn't be so surprised. Despite knowing better, I always forget that wealthy Americans are less often Andrew Carnegie and more often Paris Hilton.

[She cannot resist. Forgive her, Bruce.]

Given Bruce's current reputation? I think Pairs Hilton is probably a more accurate comparison.

[Dorian laughs. Double sorry.]

Entirely? You know, he always acted the playboy, but I thought it was more of a persona to keep things running smoothly.

It's entirely possible you know him better than I do, if you've actually met him.

I notice nothing.

Ah, but I know him out of his native environment. People are different when they lose the world that made them. Perhaps you're right about him at home.
