Event | Yard Sale!

Characters: Come one, come all!
Date: July 21st - July 27th
Location: The City of Keeliai
Situation: The rationing is officially lifted and the kedan are celebrating by conducting one citywide yard sale! Think big! Think small! Think tribbles! Think all!
Warnings/Rating: Tribbles. Lots of tribbles. Please indicate content warnings in subject headers as applicable.

The morning of the 21st kicks off with heralds roving about the city of Keeliai to declare that the rationing edict has been lifted and that citizens no longer have to contribute one-fifth of their productions (juulan or physical goods) to the communal stores maintained by the police force. These announcements trigger a state of celebration across the city as kedan drag months worth of hoarded items to the street to sell, steal, or trade in a wave of mercantile goodness that stretches for nearly a week. Not even the rising tide of tribbles seems to dampen their spirit, with kedan citywide finding new and inventive uses for the fuzzy paperweights.

Characters are free to do as they will during this event, with police oversight relaxed in the aftermath of the long rationing and strained relations. Impromptu sales out of suites will rarely be inspected and purchase made elsewhere are no longer monitored. Everyone is taking a breath of fresh air, so to speak, and most do not want their first fun in months to be ruined.

OOC: See the OOC announcement for details and this post for subheaders in which you may wreak havoc celebrate the lifting of the rationing. Feel free to start your own thread header if you like! <3

[ That is one thing she can very certainly rule out. Very, very certainly. Since the Archive passes down maternally (and her father isn't around for some reason we don't know) it simply can't be the case. ]

No. I am the Archive, the carrier of a magical construct passed down maternally. As you are female, you cannot be of my lineage.

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2013-07-27 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[It took her a long moment to realize what exactly the Archive meant. Once she realized the insinuation was that Midii herself would have had to be a 'carrier' in order to be recognized as family, however, it made a little more sense.]

...reincarnation, maybe?

[This suggestion was a little harder for her to make. She wasn't a member of any religion that really believed in the idea.]
constants: (i just had an epiphany)

[personal profile] constants 2013-07-29 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
[ She shakes her head. ]

Highly unlikely. In five thousand years there has been no sign of reincarnation existing in my world.

[ At least not written, but she's pretty sure she would have caught wind of it somewhere if it happened. ]

No, I believe this is simply the random chance of the universe. If it is a big enough place and has existed long enough, there stands to reason that at some point, two unrelated people would look nearly identical. Highly unlikely, but so is the way that things happen sometimes.

[Which would mean that the answer was no answer. She didn't like that, but she had no choice other than accepting it. True, the Archive's choice of 'my world' phrasing meant there was still room for the possibility that they originated from different worlds after all. That still didn't explain the resemblance.]

You might be right.

I still find this incredibly strange.

[personal profile] constants 2013-07-30 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Incredibly strange is right. The Archve nods in agreement. ]

These circumstances are very odd. This is the sort of thing you would find in a movie.

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2013-07-31 12:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't know.

I haven't seen many movies.

[personal profile] constants 2013-08-01 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
[ She hasn't seen any movies, though some of her predecessors have. However, she does know all their scripts. ]

I haven't seen any, though I know of many. There's one about long lost twins who discover their unknown relationship at a summer camp. Not that we could possibly twins.

[ Plus the rest of the movie has nothing to do with anything remotely related to their situation. ]

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2013-08-01 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
[Knowing the scripts is still more than Midii's ever had.]

How did the movie end?
constants: (can we have fangirl tuesdays?)

[personal profile] constants 2013-08-01 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
They got their estranged parents back together. It was a family movie.

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2013-08-01 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Why were they separated in the first place?

[If their parents were both alive.]

They had been divorced and each one got a daughter and raised her without knowledge of the other.

[ Right? Normal people with their living parents. ]
unetrustworthy: (pic#6421347)

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2013-08-04 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[This earned a very strong frown from Midii. Unless there were very extreme circumstances involved, it was never okay to separate family like that. Especially twin siblings. Midii had been forced to leave her Papa and brothers. It hadn't been her choice. Papa was too sick to work, and her brothers were all too little. They'd needed money. She left them because she loved them.]

That's horrible.
constants: (i just had an epiphany)

[personal profile] constants 2013-08-07 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[ The Archive doesn't have a particular sense of family, so she doesn't feel one way or another. If she was the type to shrug she would have. ]

Humanity functions in a wide variety of ways.

[ She knows this very well. ]
unetrustworthy: (sorrow)

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2013-08-08 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[So does she.]

Yes. I know.

...most of them, horrible.
constants: (just praise the miracle)

[personal profile] constants 2013-08-09 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Not necessarily. There are periods of time where the face of humanity can seem cruel, but even then there are people with kindness. Overall. I would say that they balance their scale.

[ She has a little but if fondness for humanity. For 5000 years she and her ancestors have watched them grow and learn, protecting them from the unknown horrors outside of the universe. Some Archives have cursed humanity for having to carry this burden, but she has a sort of distant curiosity and warmth to them. ]
unetrustworthy: (you can't be serious)

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2013-08-12 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[This, Midii knew all too well also. Unfortunately, those who showed kindness in her time were often the first ones to die. Usually because of their willingness to see good in others at the expense of missing out on the danger.]

If there was, I don't remember.

And you can't trust everything you read.

[ She does far more than read. She understands everything written. Even down to the most obscurely scribbled shopping list. ]

As I said, the Archive is a magical construct. It is a repository of five thousand years of written information. I know and fully understand everything that has been written in the past five thousand years. I do remember.

[ Every war telegram, every diary entry wondering when their father will come home. Every love letter and kind note to the neighbor wishing them well. All of it. ]

[Even putting aside the magical concept for a moment, Midii still shook her head.]

I didn't mean you.

I meant...the things they gave us to read back home. About what life was like before the Colonies started up the whole War.

[ What's so hard to get about magic? /innocent eyes ]

What did they say?
unetrustworthy: (just woke up)

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2013-08-15 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[You mean aside from the fact where it allegedly exists here? /unfooled by those eyes]

They said things used to be perfect. Like a Utopia. Everybody was happy, no one ever got hurt, and it was the fault of the ungrateful colonies for starting everything that's ever happened to us ever since.

I don't believe them.

[ Perhaps one day Midii will get to see her smack some bitches with her magic. ...And probably still not believe. ]

I don't either. The world is never perfect, even at its best. Perhaps for some individuals it may be that way, but never the whole world.
unetrustworthy: (pulling back hair)

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2013-08-18 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
[Probably not. But she might enjoy the smacking of the bitches, depending upon who's on the receiving end.]

For the rich, maybe.
constants: (just praise the miracle)

[personal profile] constants 2013-08-20 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She does a pretty pro job of smacking bitches. It's impressive. Sort of like a semi speeding down the highway. ...Yeeeaaaah. ]

That would also be my guess.

[ But her arms are getting tired of holding these books and she can only talk philosophically about humanity for so long. The Archive nods at the books in her arms. ]

I should continue on with this before all the good books are taken and my arms grow tired. I will see you later.
unetrustworthy: (hmm...)

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2013-08-21 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
[A glance at the pile of books, and Midii nodded. They looked heavy. Besides, now that she was aware of the Archive's existence, she was certain they would meet again.]

I hope you find what you're looking for.
