Situation: The rationing is officially lifted and the kedan are celebrating by conducting one citywide yard sale! Think big! Think small! Think tribbles! Think all!
Warnings/Rating: Tribbles. Lots of tribbles. Please indicate content warnings in subject headers as applicable.

The morning of the 21st kicks off with heralds roving about the city of Keeliai to declare that the rationing edict has been lifted and that citizens no longer have to contribute one-fifth of their productions (juulan or physical goods) to the communal stores maintained by the police force. These announcements trigger a state of celebration across the city as kedan drag months worth of hoarded items to the street to sell, steal, or trade in a wave of mercantile goodness that stretches for nearly a week. Not even the rising tide of tribbles seems to dampen their spirit, with kedan citywide finding new and inventive uses for the fuzzy paperweights.

Characters are free to do as they will during this event, with police oversight relaxed in the aftermath of the long rationing and strained relations. Impromptu sales out of suites will rarely be inspected and purchase made elsewhere are no longer monitored. Everyone is taking a breath of fresh air, so to speak, and most do not want their first fun in months to be ruined.

[No offense or anything, Miria. He's just waaay out of his element here and you are a visual reminder of this.

But the conversation is helping. It's a normal conversation about normal things. Colby can handle this.]

[She's almost apologetic about this. Another reminder of how everyone expects her to be more human than she is. She continues conversationally:] But there should be something here you can find.

There's nothing you miss from home?

[He hasn't quite figured out you aren't human yet.] That's the thought. I don't know how crazy I want to get, though.

I miss my friends.

[But doesn't everyone?]

Beyond the obvious. [He misses his too.] Something you did there but can't.

You mean fighting?

[That must be what he means. What else was there to do?]

I still have the tribbles to kill. But I think I'm content that I haven't needed to wield my sword in battle yet.

[fdaterminator]

Okay do you have any less terrifying hobbies? Knitting, magic, hand fishing? Hell I'd settle for you being a closet furry right now.

[Apologetically:] I don't know what any of those things are.

[Okay, she can make a guess as hand fishing.]

[fdaterminator]

Seriously? [You're not helping the "you are absolutely terrifying" opinion John has of you.] So what exactly do you do for fun, exactly?

That doesn't involve using that crazy big sword.

Usually? I just like being with my friends.

[Raimei asked the same question, so it's not a surprise, but Miria hasn't figured out how to answer it yet. Fighting isn't fun as such, but it's the only thing she knows.]

You really need a hobby.

Why? To make you more comfortable around me?

[fdaterminator]

No! [A pause, then...] ...Yes! [Why are you so weird.] You can't just kill things all day.

[She pauses thoughtfully, then says:]

You are lucky to come from a world where the dangers are infrequent enough that you have time between them. I am used to going from battle to battle or having an impending war constantly hanging over me.

I think I would like to try to 'find something to do' while I am here, but I don't know what to try.

[fdaterminator]

Trust me, lady, I'm no stranger to danger. [And with that he flashes his sidearm stashed away in its holster under his jacket.]

Well what did you do with yourself between all of those battles? Other that find something else to kill.

[Miria glances at the thing in his jacket politely, but she has no idea what it does.]

Train with my comrades in preparation for the next one.

Okay that's it you're getting a hobby.

[Might as well start with the obvious.] Does the idea of drawing make you want to kill a kitten--and is that a good thing in your particular brand of crazy? [...Colby isn't actually sure he wants to know.]

[She blinks at him a couple of times. How is she the crazy one in this conversation?]

No, I am not driven to kill by the idea of drawing. I would be willing to try it.

[fdaterminator]

[Given the sheer number of times she's discussed killing things in this short conversation alone that was a very valid question!]

Good. Now... [Looks back at the art supplies.] I'm back to the problem of what kind of stuff to buy.

[Okay, maybe he has a point. Except about the kittens. Anyway, now she's got a vested interest in buying things.]

There are books here that are for drawing, I think.

[fdaterminator]

Yeah but I don't want anything too fancy. No reason to waste all of my money, even if the tribble business is booming [Pats his messenger bag.]

[He looks around for a bit longer, finally settling on a decent but cheap sketchpad and a set of colored pencils.]

I should buy one for myself.

[If she's going to attempt this hobby thing, really. Miria reaches for the purse at her belt - she doesn't eat so really the money's of no use to her.]

[fdaterminator]

That'd be a good start. [Doesn't make an effort to try to pay for her things too--maybe if he was trying to get you into bed.]

Have you ever drawn at all?

[Yeah. No. If you think she's scary when she's clothed...]
