Event | Yard Sale!

Characters: Come one, come all!
Date: July 21st - July 27th
Location: The City of Keeliai
Situation: The rationing is officially lifted and the kedan are celebrating by conducting one citywide yard sale! Think big! Think small! Think tribbles! Think all!
Warnings/Rating: Tribbles. Lots of tribbles. Please indicate content warnings in subject headers as applicable.

The morning of the 21st kicks off with heralds roving about the city of Keeliai to declare that the rationing edict has been lifted and that citizens no longer have to contribute one-fifth of their productions (juulan or physical goods) to the communal stores maintained by the police force. These announcements trigger a state of celebration across the city as kedan drag months worth of hoarded items to the street to sell, steal, or trade in a wave of mercantile goodness that stretches for nearly a week. Not even the rising tide of tribbles seems to dampen their spirit, with kedan citywide finding new and inventive uses for the fuzzy paperweights.

Characters are free to do as they will during this event, with police oversight relaxed in the aftermath of the long rationing and strained relations. Impromptu sales out of suites will rarely be inspected and purchase made elsewhere are no longer monitored. Everyone is taking a breath of fresh air, so to speak, and most do not want their first fun in months to be ruined.

OOC: See the OOC announcement for details and this post for subheaders in which you may wreak havoc celebrate the lifting of the rationing. Feel free to start your own thread header if you like! <3

[Dorian actually presses a hand to his face.] Hilfiger, and God, no, not a line. Each item of clothing is made for the customer specifically.
langsyne: (.........what.)

[Don't make that face, Dorian. This is what the plebian life is like! A life full of (fashion) ignorance and bliss, exactly what Scott is feeling now. Except he's leaning more towards ignorance and confusion at this point in time.]

...That must take a lot of time. [And effort. And materials. And everything. But Scott is sufficiently impressed by the information.] He must be pretty well known then, if he puts that much dedication into it.

[It's a sad life. A sad life, and Dorian pities it.

Which he does keep out of his tone at least, managing to drag himself back to 'pleasantly informative' instead of lingering in 'despairingly condescending.']
I don't know about that, but he certainly deserves to be. At least among the foreigners, having the opportunity to wear clothes from home is prized.
langsyne: (HMMM)

[With great fervor:] I bet it is.

[Seriously though, after the Great Shopping Debacle of 2013 or whatever year it is with Rory earlier, there is nothing that Scott wants more than to be able to wear stuff from home.]

I don't suppose he makes jeans, by any chance?

[He will take any pair of jeans right now, even if they are designer.]

I don't see why not, as long as he can get the material.

[Jeans are good. Jeans are reasonably easy to coordinate with other things. There may be hope yet!]

[HMMM. This is promising, very promising. Just one last question and they might actually be in the clear.]

Do you--how much would they be?

[Aren't designer things usually like...a lot a lot? He doesn't have that much on him. Ever.]

Significantly at a discount for foreigners. I'm sure you can bargain for something less expensive at that. [Well. He assumes you know how to bargain. Sometimes he worries about these modern kids and their ignorance about the good haggling process.]
langsyne: (so srs scott)

[personal profile] langsyne 2013-08-20 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Bargaining. Right. [That thing he's never really done in his life and doesn't really where to start with.] Don't suppose I could just ask really nicely and be done with it?

[Dorian, help.]

[NO. WHY. HE IS SUFFERING.] You cannot. This is what Internet purchasing has done to modern youths. They think the only direction prices can go is up. [He doesn't care that this old timer whining is incongruous with his appearance as a twenty year old.] I'll show you how to haggle. Everyone should know. You can still do it even in modern times, and you'll save thousands with it.
langsyne: (so srs scott)

[DON'T BE HATIN' ON INTERNET PURCHASING, THAT'S HOW THIS GUY LIVES HIS LIFE.]

I don't even have thousands. [Or hundreds even. He is a poor boy man from a poor family.] Internet prices aren't even that high. At least Amazon's aren't. I like Amazon.

I simply can't accept not knowing what I'm buying. [In which Dorian is a cranky old man and Scott is a lazy youngster.]
langsyne: (bitch please)

[Staaaaaaaaring.]

They do show you pictures. In full color too. [What is so hard about this? But this seems like a pointless direction to take the current conversation so time to direct energies.] Are we close to Cinna's place at all?
