Event | Yard Sale!

Characters: Come one, come all!
Date: July 21st - July 27th
Location: The City of Keeliai
Situation: The rationing is officially lifted and the kedan are celebrating by conducting one citywide yard sale! Think big! Think small! Think tribbles! Think all!
Warnings/Rating: Tribbles. Lots of tribbles. Please indicate content warnings in subject headers as applicable.

The morning of the 21st kicks off with heralds roving about the city of Keeliai to declare that the rationing edict has been lifted and that citizens no longer have to contribute one-fifth of their productions (juulan or physical goods) to the communal stores maintained by the police force. These announcements trigger a state of celebration across the city as kedan drag months worth of hoarded items to the street to sell, steal, or trade in a wave of mercantile goodness that stretches for nearly a week. Not even the rising tide of tribbles seems to dampen their spirit, with kedan citywide finding new and inventive uses for the fuzzy paperweights.

Characters are free to do as they will during this event, with police oversight relaxed in the aftermath of the long rationing and strained relations. Impromptu sales out of suites will rarely be inspected and purchase made elsewhere are no longer monitored. Everyone is taking a breath of fresh air, so to speak, and most do not want their first fun in months to be ruined.

OOC: See the OOC announcement for details and this post for subheaders in which you may wreak havoc celebrate the lifting of the rationing. Feel free to start your own thread header if you like! <3

[He opens his mouth, ready to say 'yes'... then closes it, humming to himself as he actually considers it. This Lex has done nothing to lose Clark's trust, not yet. And he did just tell Hayley he likes to give people all the chances they need to prove they can change.

But if the multiverse proved something, it was that Luthors and Kal-Els would always end up betraying each other. That they were two faces of the same coin that would never meet.
]

I don't know [He admits.] I'd like to think he isn't, but it's hard to trust any Luthor after all I had seen the other Luthor do. Which is not fair to him, and I'm aware of that... but it's not something I can really help.

Either way it's really up to you to work for him or not, any business with him will prove a success if he's anything like the other Luthor.

No, I totally get it. [She offers, trying to be supportive when he admits that he can't help the way he feels about this Lex. Hayley is all too familiar with unfair judgments of people and how necessary they can be at times. Some part of her doesn't really care what Clark thinks about this new Lex, given how dangerous and entertaining he already is to her, but another part of her can't help but not want to disappoint Clark. He and Lois are the closest she has to friends here, after all.]

[To the latter, she shifts a little uncomfortably. Whether she cares or not, Hayley will always act the part that she does.]
Do you wish I wasn't working with him?
andaway: (And I know what's happening)

Of course not.

[Another question with an easy answer. He's back to smiling.] My two best friends from infancy worked for Luthor at one point or another back at home, with different results. First, it's not my place to decide if you should or shouldn't and second, like I said he's extremely skilled at business.

[She gives him a wide smile. Objectively, she actually admires his selflessness in the matter a little. He's a good guy. Subjectively, she thinks it's a little disappointing that he wouldn't seek to protect her or that he's not willing to stand up for what he believes. Of course, if he was judging Lex and trying to stop her, it wouldn't work. It would only make the whole idea more appealing really.]

Thanks, Clark.

[That's what a lot people think about Clark Kent, why it's so hard for them to remember he's as much of a unforgiving reporter as Lois is. He doesn't barge in and smash everything, that's Superman's thing. He investigates, takes notes, and waits until his actions are really necessary.

He wouldn't mind that Hayley thinks that's what's going on if he knew, really... but the moment she's in danger she'll learn how much he's willing to protect her. It wouldn't be the first time Clark Kent has punched Lex Luthor anyway.
]

No need to thank me, I already told you once I'm not your father and I'm not going to act like one. But be careful, Lex has a way of making people see what he wants them to see.

[Being oblivious to that protective instinct in him, she simply sees him as someone too nice to really fight for things yet too detached to really care. It's a strange combination, but she doesn't mind it too much.

When she first replies, there's a hint of a snap to it.]
I know you're not.

[The smallest pause, then Hayley looks away and her voice continues normally.] I'll be careful. [Her gaze returns to him.] But I should.. probably get back to work. Thanks.. for the warning, and for stopping by.
