Event | Yard Sale!

Characters: Come one, come all!
Date: July 21st - July 27th
Location: The City of Keeliai
Situation: The rationing is officially lifted and the kedan are celebrating by conducting one citywide yard sale! Think big! Think small! Think tribbles! Think all!
Warnings/Rating: Tribbles. Lots of tribbles. Please indicate content warnings in subject headers as applicable.

The morning of the 21st kicks off with heralds roving about the city of Keeliai to declare that the rationing edict has been lifted and that citizens no longer have to contribute one-fifth of their productions (juulan or physical goods) to the communal stores maintained by the police force. These announcements trigger a state of celebration across the city as kedan drag months worth of hoarded items to the street to sell, steal, or trade in a wave of mercantile goodness that stretches for nearly a week. Not even the rising tide of tribbles seems to dampen their spirit, with kedan citywide finding new and inventive uses for the fuzzy paperweights.

Characters are free to do as they will during this event, with police oversight relaxed in the aftermath of the long rationing and strained relations. Impromptu sales out of suites will rarely be inspected and purchase made elsewhere are no longer monitored. Everyone is taking a breath of fresh air, so to speak, and most do not want their first fun in months to be ruined.

OOC: See the OOC announcement for details and this post for subheaders in which you may wreak havoc celebrate the lifting of the rationing. Feel free to start your own thread header if you like! <3

I am not concerned with the state of it, but rather the discovery process. How did they reach those conclusions? What methods? The Ancient Greeks used geometry to solve many problems, was that the same here? I am curious about those things.

[ She likes math, okay? She'd pick math over pretty much anything else. ]

[ Damian is quiet, for a little while, then answers thoughtfully. ]

That information may not be possible to find, here. It has been said that the kedan have also been brought to Tu Vishan, as we were.

They probably brought their knowledge, but possibly not its history.

[ She nods, having already considered this. ]

Yes, I believe much of the history has been lost, but I am hopeful that not all of it has. Beside that, there is the time since their arrival. I believe that will be easier to find.

[ Damian's quiet for a little while, mouth pursed, before he answers, almost sadly. ]

It is likely that not much has been discovered, since then. Sadly, my information about that is unreliable.

No, it is not, but I am interested to see what has been. I am sure that it has not stopped, there are often even the smallest groups of people who are curious to learn and make even accidental discoveries along the way.

[ She loves following the timeline of memories for the discovery of math. It's fascinating seeing how those people drew closer and closer to their discoveries before finally breaking through. ]

[ Damian shrugs. For the time he has been here, he hasn't (yet) seen any progress of importance initiated by the kedan. ]

Maybe. But it is rather rare. Almost too rare.

What do you mean by "too rare"?

[ His emphasis was curious. ]

This place does not grow, does not develop. And it is not because of the exhausted natural resources. The bio-electric consoles prove that there are directions in which to progress despite the shortage of metals.

And they are not. Progressing.

Perhaps they do not desire to, or not at the rate which we are most likely accustomed to.

[ It was possible. But she didn't care that much, her response was more of a thought on the subject than any sort of motivated curiosity. ]

Perhaps.

Though, outside the gangs, they only seem... content.

[ He doesn't get how, but there it is. ]

There is a saying that goes "do not fix what is not broken." Perhaps they do not progress because they are content with what they have.

[ Damian just. Stares for a long moment. ]

And, yet, here we are.

It was my impression that the kedan as a whole are not responsible for us being here. The interest of a few may not align with the consensus of the many.

[Damian shakes his head.]

There are... theories that the kedan may be the first to be brought here. The dead on the mainland on the first landfall were certainly not kedan, at least.

But they could not defend this place from the threat.

So, in a way, because they failed, we are here.

Should that theory be correct, of course.
