We could, but I'm not sure I'd be willing to subject you to that right now.
[She smirks right back at the sentiment.]
Not really. I mean, if my lips had slipped, it would have been something more like...
[And she leans forward again, this time purposely capturing his lips in hers. That same feeling swooped in again, a little stronger than before. Even when she pulled away just a few seconds later, the last word came out nearly breathless:]
...that.
no subject
Maybe they should 'slip' more often.
no subject
Don't tempt me.
[The urge was almost too much for her to resist. As it was, she couldn't stop herself from reaching up with one hand, lightly brushing the rogue bangs along his forehead. Eyes drinking in every inch of his face. Like she couldn't believe this was still the same boy.]
You feel it too, don't you?
[Whatever it was that was affecting her. She could see it in the way he was looking at her.]
no subject
[He means both of them. But seriously Zatanna wow puberty was good to you.]
no subject
[Look who's talking.]
That's one way of putting it.
[And, even in the moment, she can't help but laugh at his particular choice of words. A small chuckle that left her shoulders shaking. Her head dipped down a moment in recovery, and when she lifted it again, she gave a subtle jerk to throw some hair back behind her shoulder.]
[And stiffened yet another yawn.]
Your voice is deeper, too. [Random, and a bit on the airy side. The lack of sleep was really starting to get to her, and she didn't mind at all.] I like it.
no subject
[He laughs in a low chuckle.] I'm just glad I got taller. I'm going to miss that when we go back to normal.
[Because they will. He has faith in her.]
no subject
[...fine. Fine. She goes as far as to sit back and take a bite of her meal.]
[Oh, wow.]
[That was actually really good.]
I'm not.
I'm going to need taller heels.
no subject
[She'd totally rock some heels.]
[He seems a lot calmer now that Zatanna is eating.]
no subject
You say that like it's not. Then again, you wouldn't be the one wearing them.
[It's somewhat cheating when you get all the bias of the view with none of the pain that comes with it.]
[Eating is one thing that she can do quite well. As an Italian American, it was in her nature to never let a good plate of pasta go unappreciated. Tired as she was, she could have sleep-nibbled on the meal if that's what it took.]
[Besides...the sauce was basically perfect.]
This is delicious. I may refuse to eat it all just so I can have leftovers for later.
no subject
Don't you dare. I have plenty left, trust me.
no subject
[She absolutely would.]
Alright, alright. I'm eating.
Are you sure you're not part Italian? You're worse than my old neighbors.
no subject
[He knows your implications, but he's ignoring them.]
no subject
Then what do you have to be?
[Another bite. Look, she was actually listening. It just didn't seem right to obey without at least some quippy commentary in between.]
no subject
[He says it lightly, but he is worried.]
no subject
[...well, damn, it was kind of hard to argue with that.]
[Her playful grin melts into something a little more genuine, and for a moment, she idly forks at her meal. The dish was half gone by then, but while she was far from full, she needed a break to keep from getting sick. Considering how long it had been since her last mean.]
I know you are, Dick. And I'm sorry.
I just...this is one mistake I actually have a chance of being able to fix. I want to do it right.
no subject
I know you do. And I know you'll fix this. And this? This is what I can do. You know, make sure you sleep so you can actually concentrate on finding an answer.
no subject
Don't get me wrong. It's not that I haven't tried...
[You know, maybe once or twice.]
...it's just that I can't seem to. Every time I lay down, my mind keeps going and I keep thinking about spells and ingredients and how if I maybe tweak this one last thing, I might finally get it.
no subject
Well, tonight I'm going to make sure you sleep.
no subject
That doesn't sound ominous at all.
You didn't sneak sleeping potions into my dinner, did you?
[Jokingly, she holds up another forkful of pasta. Pretending to inspect it before shrugging at eating it anyway.]
no subject
no subject
I remember.
But are you telling me, all this time together, and you haven't picked up a trick or two?
no subject
[He picks up a napkin, carefully closes his fist around it and pushes the edges in until it's out of sight. Then he opens his hand and the napkin is gone.]
no subject
[The fork goes down so that she can give a light round of applause, folding her arms across the table and leaning forward.]
Impressive.
That's only half the trick, though. You have to make it reappear.
no subject
Maybe later. I've got to build up the suspense.
no subject
You're lucky I save my strongest levels of patience for magic tricks.
[Because otherwise, she would be looking for other ways to find that napkin.]
[The meal was resumed, but it was short-lived. A few last bites, and she was done.]
Alright, I'm tapping out. That was a lot more filling than I thought.
