Aihsohlow | Phorezton | Markutte | Countryside

The starting point of landfall and the smallest port of importance in all the republic. All visitors will have a fish mark stamped on their tin visa if they are granted access here. The homes here are sturdy and built to withstand the harsh sea winds, though the dome has rendered their sturdiness largely irrelevant as the years pass. Fish represent the primary theme of food, with preserved and smoked renditions a commodity often sent for trade to others towns. Local authorities will ask for the tin card visa of each visitor upon first sight, verifying the information with some scrutiny before handing it back and allowing them to continue onwards. There are some auctions held here, with the items obtained often showing signs of recovery from the ocean floor by diving parties in search of fish to net.

[At her recommendation - such glowing praise! - he helps himself to two fruit skewers, placing them at one end of his currently empty plate before cocking his head and giving her a curious stare.]

Where are you from, if fruit is a luxury?

[His initial thought is somewhere far north; food variety is likely difficult to find in those place.]

Paris. [She explains simply. Of course, to him, Paris is probably filled with fruit. To her, it is filled with vermin and mud. It is not the beautiful city of lights when she is from.]

[--Huh. An unexpected answer. He blinks at her, and then hazards another question.]

What year?

[personal profile] jondrette 2013-12-10 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
1832. [No big deal.]
bolthead: (idk what this face is)

[Ahh. That goes a ways in explaining the entire situation. One hand still holding his place, the other goes out in a sweeping gesture that includes not only the food but all the other festivities going on.]

How are you liking things here so far? I imagine it must be different from Paris in the 1800s. [Not that he would know since he's never been.]
jondrette: (hope)

It is wonderful here! [She says without exaggeration.] I have warmth and a bed! My own place to call my own. My death has only left me with happiness. [Except for finding out Marius survives and marries Cosette. And that Gavroche is no longer here.]

[Barry can't help but smile at the sheer enthusiasm in her voice, though it dims upon the mention of her death. Such a young girl as she shouldn't have had to experience that, not so soon. But from all appearances she seems to be handing it with grace, so perhaps it'd be best if he left that alone.]

Then I hope you get to stay here for a long time to come. [Which seems likely, given the lack of progress anyone has made on finding a way out.] I'm Barry, by the way. It's very nice to meet you.
jondrette: (promise)

[She had, after all, chosen her death. She'd gone to it willingly, took the bullet that would have killed Marius. She knew she would die at the barricade. And she did not regret it.]

Thank you, m'sieur. I do, as well. [She glances him up and down, before smiling.] Pleasure, m'sieur Barry. I am Éponine.

[He dismisses the formality with a wave.]

Just Barry is fine. We're all equals here.

[Or at the very least, he would like them to be. Perhaps it's a naive viewpoint, especially given the day and age they live in, but he likes sticking to it as best he can.]
jondrette: (look over)

You sound like my brother. And Enjolras.

[Both men who were here. Well, had been here. Gavroche was gone. Back to the barricades, to his death.]

But then I shall call you Barry. And you shall call me Eponine.
bolthead: (smile for the camera)

[personal profile] bolthead 2013-12-15 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Eponine, then.

[That he certainly can do. Despite his behavior, he prefers the easiness and casualness that comes with being on a first-name basis. He does quirk an eyebrow at the comparison to her brother and (he assumes) friend.]

Is that a good or a bad thing?

[personal profile] jondrette 2013-12-16 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
A good thing. I assure you.
bolthead: (cutie face)

[personal profile] bolthead 2013-12-16 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
I'll take that as a compliment then, even though I'm sure I must be years older than him.

[Unless this girl is secretly far older than she looks.]
jondrette: (confused)

[personal profile] jondrette 2013-12-16 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
Enjolras is not much older than I am. Gavroche is no more than twelve.

They must act very mature for their age then.

[Because he's 500% sure no one would ever call him a kid in terms of behavior....]
jondrette: (look over)

[personal profile] jondrette 2013-12-17 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Gavroche certainly is. He acts older than I do. Quite precocious. I miss him very much.
