But that's what brought her to the market today. Just the essentials. Some fruit, mostly for Pascal, but a little for her, and some basic ingredients for bread. She had everything bundled up in a small brown parcel when she was stopped by Kristoff. She gives him a surprised look, but doesn't take the question any less seriously.]
Reindeer? I don't really know...
no subject
Then, do you know where the livestock's kept?
no subject
I don't. But maybe you could try asking the Kedan in the market that sell milk or other dairy items? I'm sure they must know where there's livestock.
no subject
You sure that you don't know?
[It's not that he doesn't trust you, he just just doesn't trust people. If you were a reindeer, he'd totally take this at face value.]

[She motions to a pocket sewn into the front of her winter cloak. For a moment the chameleon, Pascal, pops his head out of the pocket. He frowns at the coldness. The only reason he was able to come out at all was the hot stone that was also in Rapunzel's pocket, keeping him warm. He sees Kristoff's scrutinizing look and returns it with one of his own.]

Kristoff leans close in to Pascal, squinting.]
What about you? Do you believe her?
no subject
Rapunzel meanwhile feels a bit relieved at the exchange. There weren't any people as far as she'd met there that understood Pascal or the other animals to the same degree as she did, save for the new baby turtles...]
Do you get along with animals very well?
no subject
Reindeer usually, but most animals are better than people. [A beat.] Except wolves. [ :| They eat reindeer.]
no subject
no subject
Wolves try to eat me and Sven all the time. [RUDE.] I wouldn't risk befriending one, but reindeer are friends to the end. [A scoff.] Sven would never lie, cheat, or betray me. I bet it's the same for you and Pascal here, right?
no subject
[She pauses, looking curious.]
Sven is a reindeer, then?
no subject
Yeah. He's about my height -- [He holds up a hand to illustrate said height.] Shaggy. Smells a bit, but all reindeer do. And he's like Pascal in the sense that he's always been there for me. [A beat, then his arms cross again.] That's why I don't buy that he's not here.
no subject
Pascal wasn't with me when I first came here. I searched for days but no one had seen him. I only found him again when we were able to go to another town. He was for sale in an auction. [Her voice sounded pained as she said it. It had hurt being unable to do anything except spend almost every cent she had to buy him back.]
...It was awful, seeing him like that, but I was able to get him back.
no subject
[The tone of incredulity is nigh impossible to miss in his voice and whatever compunctions he had against people in general have just been cemented in his head at that.]
That is exactly why reindeer are better than people! You don't see a reindeer trying to sell a person.
[Huff! Huff!]
Or a chameleon trying it either!
[Said with a tip of his head to Pascal's pocket. He huffs and he puffs and then he lets it all out in one loud breath. Kristoff looks at her, a tiny measure of acceptance in his expression -- and sympathy.]
For what it's worth, I'm glad you got him back.
[And now he's going to have to attend every livestock sale just to be safe.]
no subject
If you like, I could help you look for Sven. I made posters looking for Pascal when I first got here. I could do the same for you.
no subject
That... [Deep breath. Let it out. He nods and rubs the back of his neck.] That would be helpful. Sven's got to be around somewhere and if he sees himself, I bet he'll come home.
...thanks?
no subject
I just don't have anything to draw with me right now.
no subject
And don't worry about it right now. I've got a whole city to check over still, but this'll be great if I don't find him.
[Because he really is hoping this could turn out moot.]
If not... well. I'll come by tomorrow?
no subject
no subject
Good. [Great, even, but he's got his mind on Sven.]
I've-- [A kind of hopeless pointing in the direction his search had been leading him.] Got to keep looking.
no subject
I understand. I hope that you find him.
no subject
[What a weird thing to say to a person that is not a reindeer. Kristoff just... yeah. He's going to jog off in the direction of his search and not address that atm.]
