[OPEN] Catch all for Sarah!

Characters: Sarah and YOU!
Date: Throughout January. Dates will be in headers!
Location: All over the turtle. Mostly Wood Sector.
Situation: Sarah meets a bunch of people face to face + random thread starters!
Warnings/Rating: Nothing worth mention so far.

A.
Exploration has become a major part of Sarah's day. There's a lot on her mind, a lot more she'd rather forget and so she's doing all she can to keep busy. It helps that she's in a new area and things are pretty damn interesting compared to home. The wood sector remains her home turf and the place she's checked out the most, but from time to time, she wanders out of what she's dubbed her safe zone.

On this day however, she's looking a little lost. Map in hand, Sarah frowns at the page as she tries to work out just where the heck she is.

B.
She's in the marketplace, searching the stalls and browsing the variety at hand. From time to time, Sarah pauses to simply watch an exchange between two Kedan, or to stop and talk to one. Whatever it is she's looking for, the kid just can't seem to find it.

She didn't fault Sarah for asking. She wasn't even all that upset. The thought of her family still brought about pangs of sadness, yes. Even guilt. But the Alliance were, if nothing else, true to their word when it came to those who worked for them. Papa and the boys would be provided for. Her "death" meant their survival.

If she never went back home, she could at least take comfort in that much.

"I had to. My brothers were too little. If I didn't do anything, they would have starved."

A polite smile and nod. Still not entirely believing she was worthy of the compliment--(a trait she and Eponine shared all too well)--but accepting it nevertheless.

"I study. Different things. Jor-El is teaching me encryptions and some of his home world's language. Damian and Bean are helping me learn English. I've been getting pretty good, too."

"That describes almost everything I'm learning here." She briefly laughed, as if it were some kind of inside joke that only she were privy to. "Maybe English would be relevant on some continents, but otherwise...they don't even use the same Calendar System we do back home."

Not entirely true. The months were the same. Days, Weeks, and Years were all the same. It was mainly the counting of years that differed, and made it difficult to compare points in time to those from other worlds.

"You can do it too, you know. Learn more. If you really want. There are scholars here. Not all of them are willing to take on students, but some of them don't seem to mind it. I think they even like the chance to teach again."

The smile quickly faded, and her eyes briefly flickered to one side. As if staring at something in the distance.

"You can learn magic?" More interesting, though, was the fact that Sarah wanted to learn magic. "Like...real magic?"

Having quickly realized her reaction might have seemed bad out of context, Midii was quick to throw an apologetic smile and light shake of the head.

"No. It's not bad at all. If that's what you want to learn. I was just...surprised. I didn't think it was possible."

Sigils.

She turned the word over several times in her head, trying to think of what it could mean, assuming Sarah had the right pronunciation. But nothing even close to it came to mind, and eventually, she gave up.

"I guess it depends on what he teaches you. A little while ago...I got an amulet. They said it was magic. That it would make me fly. I was too nervous about trying it, so I locked it away instead."

"It came in some kind of Christmas gift package from the Emperor. Everybody got one."

Which of course said absolutely nothing regarding levels of trust. On the one hand, everybody had gotten one. On the other hand, the Emperor. The person who had taken everybody from their home worlds without asking (although Midii was kind of belatedly grateful for that part). She really had no idea who to trust and who not to trust when it came to locals, least of all the high ruler.

Honestly, if Sarah asked? Midii would have just let her have the thing. It wasn't the concept of magic itself that unnerved her. It wasn't even the person who had given the gift. It was the idea of her using the magic, when she had no training or no prior knowledge (or proof) of it even existing until she came to Keelai.

Better it be in the hands of somebody who thought they could have some fun. Or use it properly, if she was being trained.

"He's not bad, I don't think. He's just...there." She couldn't help shrugging. She had never met the Emperor personally (nor the last one), and it was difficult to form an opinion on someone she had never met. "Some people like him. Some people don't. He's no different from any other ruler in that sense."

President. Ruler of the lands.

Midii was inclined to agree with Sarah on that one; in her world, the ruler oversaw not just a city, but the entire Earth's Sphere United Nations. She knew him by title only.

"Do you want to meet him?"
unetrustworthy: (hmm...)

"He does, doesn't he? Not like the kedan people who live here."

"Oh, no. They are. I didn't meant to say they weren't interesting. Just that they don't look like the Emperor."

It took a minute for Midii to realize what Sarah meant by 'the basin thing', and when she did, she shook her head.

"He wasn't Emperor when I was brought here. It was the other person. The lady."

"She was." Sarah didn't even have to say it. "It was another Foreigner. A man. I didn't know him. He was executed, I think. Banished from ever being able to come back here ever again."

Given the details of his crime, Midii wasn't about the protest such a sentence.
