Commencing the morning of the tenth, a mysterious thick, black fog covers all of Keeliai with no discernible cause, making it difficult to see. Although it doesn't seem to enter houses or suites, it's literally everywhere else and can't be swept or cleared away by superpowers. Attempts to scan it with technology lead to unexpected and inconsistent results, with the findings varying from speculation that it is smoke from a coal fire to the occasional reading stating that it is black cotton candy floating in the air.

Following the official announcement explaining origins of the mysterious black fog inundating Keeliai, the call is put out for the Foreigners to attend the Palace and prepare to be transported to Kithika. Once inside, it is explained, they will be responsible for finding the source of the corruption and expunging it. Once they have entered the bottle it will be impossible for them to leave until their task is completed, making this an all or nothing undertaking. This is upon direct imperative of the Alderwood Emperor and he expects any and all combat-capable Foreigners to heed his order, and they are to report to the Palace of the Landed Sky without delay.

She doesn't know the person beside her, but those words and smile are comfort enough. Sarah nods her head in agreement. "Yeah... I'll definitely agree with you on that."

There should be others around, but for the moment it's just the two of them. Following suit, she takes a deep breath and fills her own flask. "Have you been okay so far?" Sarah asks. In her own experiences, things have just been crazy.

Then again, her new partner in crime is wearing what Sarah mentally dubs a hero costume. She's met a few by now, but still the twelve year old in her has to ask. "...Wait whoa, are you a hero too?"

That gets a bright smile from Steph, like she's genuinely pleased that Sarah is agreeing to team up with her, which she is, to be fair, but it's also meant to help put Sarah at ease.

"I've been managing, how about you?" Once the flask is full, she tucks it into one of the pouches on her utility belt, since she had the foresight to empty one out for the purpose, "And yeah, I am. Batgirl at your service."

With the flask away, she's free to offer her hand to shake. Even superheroes have manners, sometimes.

The more Steph smiles, the more Sarah feels that little bit better about everything going on. "Whoa... yeah, I've been okay. My dad's around here somewhere so, it hasn't been too bad."

It's still so strange, but she's been managing. But now it's time to take a stand and do her part. Sarah takes the offered hand and gives it a friendly shake. "I'm Sarah. It's so cool to meet you."

"Having dad around must make things easier," Which isn't a universal experience, but if Sarah is mentioning her dad, then he must be an alright sort of dude, so that's - good.

Steph keeps her grip gentle, and once she's released Sarah's hand she gestures to the exit, "It's cool to meet you too, Sarah. Shall we?"

The kid nods her head. It's good to have company, better still when said company is a friendly superhero.

"Alright. Let's do this," she said, fighting back the fear with determination. If Ellie could do this kind of thing, then so could she. Kinda. "It's not so bad when it's just the mold. It's when it starts... movin' that things get weird."

So long as they keep it from getting that far too much, things will work out just fine.

Steph holds out her hand, wiggling her fingers to indicate that Sarah can hold it if she wants; maybe Sarah is a little old for the gesture, but it might help.

"If the mold starts moving, I want you to run, 'kay? I'll handle it, you just get yourself somewhere safe inside until I come get you," Steph can deal with any mold creatures that come, but she doesn't want a little girl to get hurt.

The offer is damn tempting to take up. Sarah might be a little old to hold Steph's hand, but she's spooked enough at all that has happened to genuinely consider it. With a small smile, she shakes her head in decline. "I'm okay," she says. There's no missing that she appreciates the gesture though.

At the instruction to run, Sarah nods her head. "What about you? Are you gonna be okay if that happens?"

Steph pouts for a moment, almost like she's disappointed, but it's replaced by a cheeky sort of smile after a second, to show that she's just playing, even as she starts towards the exit. It's not an act, really, but she is making a point to seem more at ease in order to make Sarah less nervous.

"I'm a superhero, I can handle a couple of mold monsters," It's a little more cocky than she might be otherwise, but - it's for Sarah's sake.

The reaction to her decline gets a laugh. She likes Steph already, even though they've only known each other for a few minutes. Besides, it's not every day you get to hang out with a real life superhero. There's an instant sense of security that comes with having one in your company.

"I've got your back either way, got it?" In her own way. Sarah will run and hide, but if push comes to shove she might just dive out there to help.

"Yes ma'am," It's said with obviously over the top seriousness, but her smile is warm, and it's clear that she apprecates the sentiment. Which is why she rests her hand on her collapsed bo staff and asks, "You ever swung a baseball bat before?"

Sarah grins in return and gives a determined nod. Together, they've got this under control. She just knows it.

At the question, she nods. "Yeah, we play sometimes at school. I like soccer better, but I'm pretty good!"

"Soccer and baseball, that's pretty good," She does sound genuinely impressed, and she unclips her staff from her belt, holding up a hand to indicate that they should stop walking for a second.

"Here," Steph crouches down and holds the staff out to Sarah, gesturing along the side to where the button to extend it is; she presses it once to demonstrate how it works, then collapses it again, "I'm gonna let you hold onto this for me, if we run into trouble, you can hold it like a bat and give any creatures a good whack, yeah?"

She'll feel better knowing Sarah has a way to defend herself.

She's been right into sport from the day she was old enough to play and Sarah couldn't be happier for it. She's fit even for a kid her age. At the request to stop, she does, and when Steph offers the staff, Sarah stares in awe.

"Whoa. That's. So so cool," the girl says, taking the weapon and having a go at extending and retracting it. "I can do that."

"One of the best things about being a superhero is all the cool toys," That's not really the best thing about being a superhero, but it certainly is up there, and it's definitely easier to get things done when she has access to all Batman's toys.

And it's something she can give to other people, just in case she can't watch them constantly, "If you do a good job out there, I'll even let you keep it."

She's got a spare.

Sarah was already going to give it her all, but this is all the more encouragement to do so. At the end of it all, she's not sure if she'll keep the staff if it's offered. Of course it's awesome, and she'll definitely want to, but the kid will be wanting to give something in return. A fair trade is easier on the conscience.

"I will. I promise I will." She looks to Steph and grins. "I'll be your not so super sidekick for the day or somethin'."

She gives a bright grin in return, then straightes back up and starts walking again, nudging Sarah's shoulder lightly to get her moving as well. Not that she thinks it's needed; the gesture is more playful than anything.

"Careful, start talking like that and I'll have a mask and cape for you by the end of the week," No, no she will not, but it's easy enough to joke around.

The girl giggles and when they start to move along, it's with a new confidence. She's still a little scared, but the banter definitely helps.

"Just so you know, you're not the first person here to say that," she says with a grin as they head back outside. "I met this real cool guy called Wild Tiger when I first got here. He's actually my neighbour."

"Well then I'll have to think of something cooler to offer you if I wanna compete with Wild Tiger to get you as my sidekick," She doesn't recognize the name, but she makes a note to check it out, just in case this Wild Tiger isn't as much of a superhero as they say they are.

Because apparently she's just decided to make herself Sarah's guardian nagel or something.

Admittedly, Sarah doesn't know all that much about him, but the few talks they've had were all fun and exciting and that's enough for her to like the guy. Not to mention, superhero instantly falls into the 'AWESOME' category.

Steph is special though, and from here on in, no matter how all this goes, she's going to have a twelve year old forever looking up to her and bugging her to hang out. "Naww, you're cool. Besides, he's already got a partner sooo..."

That's something she can live with, even if she's already trying to figure out how to give Sarah a way to contact her that won't blow her secret identity.

"Funny that, 'cause I'm in the market for a partner," Not really, but maybe she'll teach Sarah a little self-defense and let her keep that bo staff, just to know she can defend herself.

The kid grins up at her, a little surprised but clearly excited. "You know, if I had powers or super skills or anything I would so be bugging you to pick me."

But she's normal, compared to most around here. Willing to learn, sure, but still so normal.

"Hey, I don't have powers or anything, I've just spent a lot of time learning how to handle myself out there," Not to actually encourage Sarah to be a kid sidekick, Steph's more just trying to reassure her that it's okay not to have superpowers or superskills, that anyone can be a hero if they try hard enough.

It's good to hear. Hell, it's more than good to hear. "Huh... that's so awesome," she says, mind already considering all that's realistically in her reach if she applies herself towards it.

"I mean, I've met all these real cool people since I got here. The ones who have magic or crazy skills or just... y'know. Things normal people can't do."

She shrugs and smiles at Steph. "I like hearin' that there's people out there who do the same sort of stuff without all that. It's uh, encouraging."

"I get it," Her smile is warm and genuine, "There's a guy back home, Batman, and he's just a regular person who's taught himself how to be a hero, you know?"

It's not often that she talks about Bruce so positively, but she knows the importance of that symbol, of believing in something.

"When I saw him, I knew that anyone could be a hero, even little girls," She wouldn't encourage any to be, not anymore, not after spending so much time with the younger version of Dick Grayson that was here. But telling someone that they can be a hero isn't the same as telling them to be a vigilante.

Sarah is practically beaming by this point, any fear forgotten for the moment. "Y'all really like bats, don't ya?" she asks with a mischievous grin.

It's cool though. Part of her wonders if they're some kind of squad or something. "Are there many of you? Heroes and Bat... people?"
