OOC INFORMATIONCITY OF KEELIAIINSIDE THE BOTTLETHE WORLD EATER

For nearly two days the brave quest takers have been sequestered at the sullied Temple and its grounds, the thick jungle and swamp preventing them from leaving. There are faint tremors that run through the ground and in the middle of the third night, the ground gives a great heave, jostling everyone from their rested states. In one of the Temple rooms, a sinkhole has appeared to reveal not spongy ground beneath, but a dark tunnel leading down into the earth. It doesn't take much to widen the entrance and follow the gentle downward slope that leads out to the north, and a walk of about two hours (which surely would feel like longer to those who don't enjoy being trapped in low, dank places) leads them under the swamp itself. By the time the tunnel slopes upward, the muddy ground has turned hard and packed with small chips of rock and sand; the terrain above is changing and as they emerge upward through a fissure in the ground...

OOC NOTE: The Aftermath comment will be unfrozen and its direction posted on February 23rd, based on the outcome of the other threads.

'If"? You are still an adolescent.

[No measure against whatever skill he may have; even the younger future members of Krypton's Military Guild were often equal or better than equal matches against a full adult member of anoher guild, but on the amount of respect owed to him and what authority he did not have.]

You should learn to give proper respect to your betters.

Don't bother, father. I talked to him once- was too stupid to even comprehend usages of power that didn't involve peeking through people's clothes. [Which didn't really go like that, but Kal's mind has twisted it enough to seem so. He looks down at the boy with disdain.]

What are you going to do then, kid? Try to hurt us? Go on, entertain me some.

[A big part of Teddy knows he's beat already. He remembers the kind of power the younger man claimed to have, and how he had thought to himself that he never wanted to get on his bad side. Well, too late for that. But an even bigger part of himself is ignoring every instinct telling him to run while he can. He would never be able to live with himself if he ran now. Not while everyone back in Keeliai, including Cassie, is still relying on them to pull through.]

The thing about respect is you have to earn it first. I might just be a kid to you, but even I know when someone worth respect is standing in front of me. Try harder.

[With the exception of a flickering glare sent his way, Teddy didn't react to Kal's words. However, his shape did seem to be gradually growing bigger. In seconds his already considerable bulk is even bigger, nearly towering over his opponents.] My business is with the dragon behind you. But like I said, get in my way and there will be trouble. [His large wings unfurl and spread out, flapping quickly as Teddy left the ground, taking off in the direction of the dragon. He has no doubt they will give chase, but maybe he might be able to out pace them in the air.]

[Size means little; it means a larger target, more mass to manipulate, all things that can easily be put to their advantage, rather than his.]

You're the one who'll need to try harder.

[He shoves the ground shortly after Teddy takes flight, and looks over to Kal-El, unspoken permission given for him to call the decisions. He is the one with experience in fighting during unaided flight. Jor-El is, grudgingly, a recent initiate to flight itself.]
andaway: ([Are you okay])

[personal profile] andaway 2014-02-27 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[When he speaks next it's almost a whisper, fully knowing his father will still easily hear it.] Go for the wings.

[He doesn't even need to be asked out loud- he's the one with power here, the one with experience and with abilities the day he was born. He was the one chosen to thrive under a yellow sun all his life, of course he should be the one calling the shoots in any kind of battle.]

They aren't really wings, I bet he doesn't really know how to use them. He's fighting on borrowed power. [And straight he goes towards one them the second he's done talking.]
hulkintraining: ([hulkling] not of the good)

[personal profile] hulkintraining 2014-03-03 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
[The wings are real, though. At least as real as Teddy chooses to make them. And he's had more then enough experience in flying to be able to handle himself in the sky. He wouldn't have chosen to take flight unless he thought he might gain an advantage.

If he had been fighting the run-of-the-mill villains he was used to, then surely this would have been the case. But he's taken off guard by their speed and precision. However even he can tell exactly what Kal is going for and he attempts to dive out of the way in order to protect his wing.]

[personal profile] lookedtothestars 2014-03-03 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
[There is little advantage to winged flight when your opponents can also fly- and without wings, at that.

Watching the boy dive to avoid Kal-El, he chooses to fly towards the point that his current trajectory will have him at- he cannot doge both of them so easily.]
andaway: ([Hold back])

[personal profile] andaway 2014-03-04 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[Kal grins at his father, keeping a close eye on the kid in case he tries something unexpected. He knows it's a sure win, yes, but that doesn't mean he has to be sloppy and careless about it- that would be unbecoming for the last Kryptonian.

Once he's close enough and he's sure his father is going to handle hitting the hit directly, he lets his eyes go read and flashes a burst of laser vision at the kid's wings. Why didn't he use his laser vision much before? He's finding it incredibly useful in this little trip.

[Teddy curses himself as he manages to avoiding opponent only to fall into the cross hairs of the other. He'd been too focused on Kal and now he was going to pay for that. Teddy tries to move into a position where he'd take the least about of damage as they collide.

From the corner of his eye he can still see Kal, a little ways off, but he didn't seem to be approaching. What was he-? It didn't take long for Teddy to have the answer to his question as the lasers pierced directly through his wings. He yells in pain as he tries to put distance between him and his attackers. Pain shoots along his back as he tries to lower himself to the ground. He's going to have to get rid of his wings if they were going to be targets, but first he needed to be at a height he could safely fall from and not injure himself.]

[personal profile] lookedtothestars 2014-03-05 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[It is an almost admirable attempt, but too little and too late. Jor-El slams into him.

If Teddy wants to avoid hitting the ground, he's going to have to prevent the older Kryptonian from pulling him into a solid grapple.]
andaway: ([are you listening])

[personal profile] andaway 2014-03-06 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[Slamming the kid into the ground is a smart thing to do. Kal would be impressive but he had never doubted his father's intelligence- he had been able to save him, after all-

Kal flies down at high speed to receive them right on the ground, ready to smash the kid around if there's still something left of him the moment he 'lands'.
