EVENT | LANDFALL | KITHIKA | DRAGON
Characters: ALL!
Date: February 12th - 28th
Location: Keeliai
Situation: The discovery of an artifact from the first war against Malicant reveals the land of Kithika within a dimension of the Death Plane... and just happens to be contained inside a bottle.
Warnings/Rating: Please indicate content warnings in subject headers as applicable.
OOC INFORMATION ♦ CITY OF KEELIAI ♦ INSIDE THE BOTTLE ♦ THE WORLD EATER
For nearly two days the brave quest takers have been sequestered at the sullied Temple and its grounds, the thick jungle and swamp preventing them from leaving. There are faint tremors that run through the ground and in the middle of the third night, the ground gives a great heave, jostling everyone from their rested states. In one of the Temple rooms, a sinkhole has appeared to reveal not spongy ground beneath, but a dark tunnel leading down into the earth. It doesn't take much to widen the entrance and follow the gentle downward slope that leads out to the north, and a walk of about two hours (which surely would feel like longer to those who don't enjoy being trapped in low, dank places) leads them under the swamp itself. By the time the tunnel slopes upward, the muddy ground has turned hard and packed with small chips of rock and sand; the terrain above is changing and as they emerge upward through a fissure in the ground...
---
OOC NOTE: The Aftermath comment will be unfrozen and its direction posted on February 23rd, based on the outcome of the other threads.

"No, this isn't cruel or malicious." He sets a hand on her shoulder, as he has done only once before. Again, there is no pressure, barely a touch.
"This is honesty, and fact. Your people- you humans- put far too much emphasis on compassion where it isn't needed. For yourselves or others." The hand suddenly tightens with the emphasized word, quickly, from being barely there until it's a vise on her shoulder, sharp and painful, but barely not crushing, not yet where it would have to be to leave lasting injury before it suddenly stops, the pressure gone again in not even a split second.
"Actually learn to use logic instead of abusing it and you might survive."

She listens attentively at his words, foolishly allowing herself for a split second to believe there might be something of the real Clark in him. Then his words cut through her and she can't help the glistening of her eyes as tears begin to form. Hayley is tough, but she's not invulnerable, and his words are nearly too much.
And then Jor-El. She swallows any sound of protest when his hand falls lightly on her shoulder. Hayley doesn't move her head, her eyes darting sideways to look at him. She fights to blink back the tears even as a few fall down her cheeks. When he squeezes, she lets out a cry of pain. Then he releases her, but the pain lingers on.
It takes everything she has not to collapse. Instead, she stares down at the ground and forces herself to remain silent, to hold it in until they're gone, with her rapid breathing bordering on vocal sobs. Tears continue to fall and she simply waits.
They seem to be nearing the end of their torment. Or, at least, she hopes they are. If she's silent, maybe they'll move on. Because there's nothing she can do. She knows she's powerless. And, in that moment, she also knows that she'll never feel safe around either of them again.

So he simply takes off again after a few seconds, flying off to check their surroundings and not even bothering to say anything else to the girl. His father can deal with her if she wants, he's done.

Jor-EL's attention span is longer than Kal-El's, and his reservoir of patience greater. He doesn't immediately leave to follow Kal-El; it will be on his own terms, rather than just blindly following his impertinent offspring.
"You're afraid." The statement is almost musing, contemplative.
"You come close- very close- to rationality. Logic. Sensible things. It's almost admirable."
He tilts his head slightly, as he considers her further.
"But then you allow your fear to influence you. You create fallacies and inconsistencies from nothing. What a weakness. Is it a natural trait for all humans? Or something only in your line. I wonder."
no subject
Immediately after the statement, her jaw clenches with the effort not to speak anymore. She stubbornly scrubs the tears from her face, even though they continue to fall, never lifting her eyes from the ground. Her hands ball into fists at her sides, angry at her helplessness.
no subject
"Emotions are meant to be controlled; they are not there to control us. Submitting to them makes you lesser." As much as the words could be taken as an aspersion, they weren't even that, and instead, completely impersonal in tone, all while observing her actions.
no subject
"I know," she agrees angrily. Because yeah, emotions are a weakness and she'll be the first to admit it. Unfortunately, she can't really turn them off and the fear that clouds her daily decisions seems unavoidable. Her body begins physical shaking, barely noticeable. "Why are you still here? Just go."
no subject
"Your actions consistently raise more questions than they do answers." He replies.
"I will learn what I want from you." No warmth. Only a clinical tone.
She is an experiment to monitor.
no subject
She finally lifts her eyes to look at him. Her body continues to shake. Where tears fell before, now her cheeks begin to dry even as her eyes still glisten. The girl remains in a fragile state.
no subject
His hands are folded together, and he is still nearby. Still in arm's reach.
Watching.
no subject
It hadn't occurred to her until his words that this might not end here. That if they leave, that doesn't magically make them better. This might not be an illusion. It might be a permanent change in them, something they can never fight past or overcome. The thought makes her nauseous.
Hayley remains silent, shaking, and tense. He's taken her dignity and most of her fight as well. There's little left to rob her of beyond her physical health.
no subject
There is one step, then another, and Jor-El soon takes flight, to reach Kal-El.
It would not take long to reach him; the whole encounter from start to beginning- even before Kal-El's departure- took only a few human minutes, after all.
