Well, he was a pretty good cook when he had the right ingredients. But he didn't bother bragging then: just grinned in amusement before turning back to the kitchen to fix his own serving up. He wasn't sure how bad the food situation was-- it was on his list of things to do in the morning, apparently. It needed to be, anyway.

He went back to the table, sitting with her and eating in silence for the moment. "So, you like it that much..." She was never that overt about how much she liked his cooking before.

If teasing didn't get them back to normal, he wasn't sure what would.

He shrugs. "I could show you how to cook it," said right before taking a bite. He wasn't nearly as enthusiastic with eating as she was, but he did notice the 'not bad' jab. She'd picked up on what he was going for, and suddenly he felt a lot more relaxed. "It's not really complicated, a kid could do it." He knew, because that kid had been him, once.

Though, he had missed the unspoken part of that statement. Or rather, had taken it for granted. But if she could take the spiciness... he didn't mind making it for her, again.

She seemed pretty unfazed overall. He could appreciate that.

"Desserts require extra work. My MO when I'm cooking is stuff that's easy," he replies simply, though he had to admit... despite the stress, and despite not really having eaten all day, he wasn't really that hungry. He was forcing himself to eat at this point, to keep their conversation normal. But after a bit, it just settles on his stomach badly and he sets aside the bowl, before glancing at what was left of hers.

He could probably start clean-up, though he had to admit he really wasn't feeling up to that either. It was taking a lot of effort to not seem as tired as he felt, which just compounded the problem. He rubbed his face for a moment before standing up and starting the cleaning process. He just wanted to go pass out.

He'd have to rush Korra a little bit, but the rest would do her good too.

"Thanks, I got it from here," was all he could answer. With how scarce things were, he could just set his aside and save it for later. So maybe he was inadvertently doing himself a favor then, though when he gets to the kitchen, he sets all the plates aside and has to pause, his hands resting on the counter. Well, more like supporting the rest of him. He was seriously not feeling well.

Which was weird. He very rarely got sick... He wasn't even sure what he had as far as remedies were concerned. He'd collected some things, but he had no clue whether they worked or not. He lifted his hand shakily from the countertop and brushed his mouth. One step at a time. He's got this. But it was a laborious process-- he had to constantly pause and even then, he only set the dishes out to dry, instead of wiping them down and putting them up.

When he next showed his face, he couldn't hide how tired and pale he was looking. He didn't even really want to try anymore.

"Hey, Korra..." A pause. Get it together. "I'm gonna get you set up on my bed. Alright?"

The paleness was a lie. If anything, he should have been burning red from how hot his forehead felt. As many jokes one could make about firebenders being hot, it wasn't normal. In fact, part of him almost wanted to make that joke, and he knew he needed to get something to reduce the fever, and get some sleep as soon as possible. He pulled back at the touch, knowing exactly what she was thinking.

She wasn't that hard to read, in this one circumstance.

"I've got something for fever, Korra," he said insistently. There was no way he didn't-- he was Mako. He liked to think he was way more prepared than he was. If anything, he should be supporting her to his bed, though he knew that would end in disaster for both of them right then. It was an effort to walk straight, and without shivering. He just had to grab extra pillows and blankets, so she could sleep on something he hadn't slept on.

He was doing his best to operate normally.

He was really too weak to protest when she started assisting him. He wanted to say he could walk, that he didn't need the support, as soon as she set him on the bed, he felt the world tilt and he swallowed hard, his eyes closing tightly. His hands curled in the sheets while he waited for the vertigo to pass. He didn't even notice she was gone, he was still trying to will the dizziness away.

Her words were almost distant, and all he wanted to do was pass out. Pass out, and either shed all his clothes, or go find every single pair of winter clothes he had in his closet. He forced his eyes open, but she wasn't coming in focus like she should have. Instinctively, he pulled away from the cloth, before settling. He couldn't focus...

She was still a blur, and when he tried to reach his hand out to her, he realized he was shaking. "Korra..." It was a pathetic attempt at indignity, one that he stopped at halfway, dropping his hand. His hand wasn't the only thing that dropped-- he slumped forward against her, all energy leaving him.

Nothing was in focus anymore, it was like everything had drained out of him all at once, as soon as she set him down. Moving was a herculean effort on his own, and it was way, way too cold. He stared up at the glowing water. He'd never been healed by Korra like this before.

"... Lot less messy than firebending." He admits hazily, before turning to the side and coughing. He would never have made it to the hospital like this, so it was good fortune that she'd decided to visit him instead, and that she was there with him. He coughed again, and when he stopped coughing, his teeth chattered due to shivering.

He wanted to reach out and touch her, but she needed to waterbend, or the water would come crashing all over him. He closed his eyes, trying to keep track of the thread of what was going on, but it was hard. He was half incoherent when he mumbled, "L-Leave this bed and... gonna have words. Lots of words."

He was out cold after that.
