EVENT | LANDFALL | VALISHAERA

Characters: ALL!
Date: JULY 13-26
Location: Valishaera
Situation: Tu Vishan has made landfall on Siaxhi, to explore the Dreaming Watch City of Valishaera.
Warnings/Rating: Please indicate content warnings in subject headers as applicable.

As Tu Vishan draws near, the heavy jungle visible even from miles out quickly identifies the landmass as Siaxhi, one of the westernmost continents in Konryu and one that has been largely untouched insofar as the kedan themselves have gone. There is a natural inlet along the southeast shore on the continent and Tu Vishan makes for that, though he fills nearly all of it.

[If he was looking for precise dates to compare...that was a little above even Midii's mental capacity. She had always been smart for her age, sure, but never a genius. Not like some of the actual prodigies she'd known. It was more...the essence of the history. The emotion and human nature of action and reaction to the events surrounding them.]

[Events such as war.]

[She accepted the chair he pulled out for her with a grateful smile, sitting with proper posture and her legs crossed at the ankles.]

That seems almost ironic, doesn't it? That your sense of hope would have come at the very beginning of the war.

[Then again, it made sense. Not yet weary from all the fighting, if chances looked good at the time, why wouldn't they have reason to believe that such a battle would be over soon?]

"It's not a trick. An illusion perhaps. A nasty virus, a bit of bad stew. Your friend wasn't here and no one claimed that he was, nor claimed to be him. What does that make you?" He laughs lightheartedly, not at Don but at his own joke. "Think of the possibilities instead of jumping to assumptions or you'll find yourself wrong a great deal more often in this place."

Ah. A warrior then. [Wlodzislaw bears the same smile as he straightens, giving Notch one last good ruffling of the fur on his head.]

A different kind of danger though. One not so easy to detect or fight. More dangerous for that. It's the same sort of absence and assumption that allows evil to thrive. Even those who seem beyond reach can be turned to darkness.

We do not defy physics, girl. As moving from Kithika to Valishaera or Sinbrilee to Tu Vishan, the culture changes and, with it, the laws. Physics are a social construct of sorts, one which Dreaming allows to be undone and remade in its own cultural image. We have no need or desire to defy anything.

[He smiles mischievously, as if letting her in on a secret.] We do pride ourselves on our good curry stew however.

"Correct." Wlodzislaw is already impressed with him. Enjolras is the first to draw any such natural approval from her, so many of the others existing in their little logical bubbles that they fail to realize the greater existence of the Realm beyond their thinking. It was asking them to conjure infinite when they could only count to one hundred.

"What is important to you is important to the Dan'effrei. However, as there are heaps of you, so, too, are there heaps of us, each with his own purpose. Much like you lot, only more well read. The advantage of old age and all that." She shrugs noncommittally.

"The Realm facilitates what memory, passion, and necessity dictate. Not in that order. In no order, I imagine. Laws govern the Plane, but they are not as you know and best understood through exploration."
looksfine: (i am the logical choice)

It is not a social construct. It is a natural science.

[Point of clarification. And to undo or remake something natural translated, in her mind, to defying it. Something she was gaining more and more experience with as time passed.]

Is this an attempt to purposely change the subject in hopes of distracting my attention?

A science constructed by your peers, your charts, your measurements. [He's trying, ever so gently, to steer her to understanding.] Do you truly find it easier to accept that we break the laws of science, rather than that alternate laws exist here? Are we so criminal?

[Wlodzislaw then pauses, staring at her. He lifts his hands to tug at the ends of his hair, drops them.] What am I to be distracting you from?
looksfine: (I wrote you a poem Razer)

[personal profile] looksfine 2014-07-23 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
From the conversation at hand.

And I have never once implied that your actions are criminal. You defy the laws, not break them.

[In other words, yes, it was easier for her to comprehend the former.]

Enjolras is actually rather pleased that he seems to have made somewhat of a connection here. Everything, after all, is part of something larger. He may not have realized that in life very often, until he took some of his friends' words of a greater human connection on Earth to heart a scant day before his death, but even so, he's made it once. Perhaps it stayed here, better than he'd thought. After all, the monk's explanation and answers make a lot of sense. The idea that there are many forces, many people and places he cannot conceive of, and that they are all part of a whole, perhaps even those who have left, that it reaches across a infinite plain of existence, and links things still is comforting, extremely so, and the concept relaxes him.

"A vast degree of knowledge and experience, then. Vaster than I think I could imagine if I am understanding you correctly." Enjolras can't help but smile a bit. "The idea of it is quite amazing. And of having so long to do so. I've not always had the time to devote to all of the great ideas and the world itself in such a way as to study and understand it, but it seems like something quite fulfilling much of the time.

Laws..." How best to put his thoughts. "Dreams have a sort of built in logic that allows for many things to happen that are not possible in the waking hours. I would suppose exploring here to be a bit like that. And I am certain I should like to do so."

Don pinches the ridge between his eyes.

No. This is our host having a terrible sense of humor.

"Our host" is accompanied by a sense of "that turtle under the city".

1832? And I thought 1986 was the dark ages.
i_speak_softly: (Very very cross.)

You are an incredibly frustrating person.

Enjolras finds himself rubbing his nose and temple now, because the sensation, from a new person, is still kind of weird.

Ah, that WOULD do it. I've noticed that we tend to be pulled into different, odd situations, even, due to some of the machinations here. I've somehow picked up a few skills that seem ironic when I consider them.

Oh you crazy giant turtle, you!

1986...That IS further back than many people here, I will admit. But still! I've learned a little of the changes in the world since then, from some others, but I would still surely be lost in your world and time.

"Ah," said Skulduggery before he'd even come to a full stop. "Death is lacking in the ruins, isn't it?"

The implication was only a theory before, but Wreath did tend to grow annoyingly cheerful when an area was pulsating with death. The distinct lack of any cheer in his greeting answered most of Skulduggery's questions for him, and the fact that Wreath had come to willingly seek Skulduggery out was interesting too. Of course, that was interesting for very different reasons. Skulduggery made no move to reveal what the wooden oil painting he held by his side was, choosing instead to tilt his head questioningly. "To what do I owe the pleasure?"
solo_patria: (canony: do you hear)

[Dates were not what mattered in all of this, no. Scopes of events, rough periods in time and thought were more than enough to establish things on a formal scale. Other than that, what truly mattered in those cases were the simpler things. The songs being sung in the streets, forms of address among citizens, the leading topics in the air. Those made a time and place much more than a date written on a paper and established it forever as Enjolras was concerned.]

Maybe a bit ironic that we did not wait until much longer to allow ourselves to consider the outcome and whether too much enthusiasm and hope might lead to a disaster. But then again, it was also something else though. Very much like...

When I was a child, it transpired that my favorite aunt was to have a child and I was to have a cousin. The months of waiting seemed so long, even though they were busy ones with a great deal of preparation. But when she realized that it was time to send for the midwife and the hardest part of birth began, it was also the moment that our family was filled with the most hope and the most joy. Even though the moment could and was filled with a lot of pain, my aunt was at her most excited. At the promise of a child and all the hope one has for an infant who is being born.

[Is that improper? It would have been a bit at home, to even speak of such, but here it hardly seems as socially strict, not that Enjolras was one to worry too much about lines of propriety before.]

Our July Revolution started quite like that. The second French republic was being born, and we were all set to labor, and to, as my friend Feuilly pointed out, deliver and see it fulfilled. However, [And his tone is a little wry] the births did vary in terms of success.

My cousin was born healthy and brought us a great deal of joy. Our republic was killed before it left the womb we had prepared for it.

Ah. Solomon regarded the Ring for a few moments, not warily but thoughtfully, as a man considering his options. It would likely offer them any extra power they needed, but without knowing quite what they were attempting to do that was a dangerous proposition; if the Ring was in any fashion sentient then it would well force them to use more power than they wanted.

No. Best, at this stage, to leave the Ring as a final option.

"Another time," he said, "if we need it. I would rather know the constraints for which we need it before paying its cost, if it has one." He would just have to be careful about pressuring the ghosts, in that case.

Solomon manifested a small bowl on the table and used his small knife to reopen the cut he'd made on his palm, but a little more deeply this time. He hissed slightly as he did so, letting blood pool in the bowl until the bottom was covered before pulling back and putting pressure on the wound. He nodded at Bakura. "When you're ready."

"A touch," said Solomon, not in the least bit surprised that the skeleton had already surmised it was the case. Either he'd divined it with logic or he'd felt it with the armour; Solomon didn't particularly care which, at this stage.

"I wouldn't say it's a pleasure. More like self-preservation. What's this?" Solomon nodded at the item Pleasant was holding, very clearly keeping it out of casual view without actively attempting to hide it.

What we're talking about now doesn't merit conversation status? [That actually confuses him. Distracting from their conversation by having a conversation? The point she's making is lost on him.]

What is defiance of a law if not to break it for yourself or someone else? A declaration of unscientific practice or injustice, perhaps. I don't find your laws to be unsound. I only find ours to be different, as you are different to me and I am different to others.

"Alchemical, mainly. Bit of magic, bit of science. Occasionally Death and Life. Depends on the day, really."

Wlodzislaw seems entirely unperturbed by Don's frustration.
wickerwood: (Wlodzislaw but whyyy)

"Mm," she begins, considering his words a moment before she corrects him. "You could likely imagine it. I wonder if you could comprehend it. As you might comprehend infinite, but not an infinite number of infinites. You can imagine it, yet it will never settle in firm knowledge. The thought's existence will serve as a constantly shifting and malleable idea of what it might be like. The imagination is enormously able to produce what the thinking mind cannot.

The focus of a life should not be to understand the infinite infinites of potential. Learn what's relevant to you and cherish it. The rest is rubbish. Poland may be a great Empire, but she is of no use to me. Learn to sort your rubbish in the bin and your personal infinite to memory and your life will be better for it."

She gives a firm nod, as if providing him with the wisdom of the ages or the answer to the universe. Wlodzislaw is proud of herself for imparting her entirely biased knowledge on a species very unlike her own, hoping it works out for him.

"Another sharp thought, boy. Do not confuse dreams for Dreaming. Though the two may share a title and purpose, not all laws are the same and its differences might bring you harm if you're not careful."

There was no flashy spell or signal, not with this as natural as breathing. A hazy murk spread around them, cutting off the light of the library setting, leaving only the table and a vague outline of things outside the small "bubble" of shadow that encased them. In the gloom, the Ring shone faintly like catching light from the corner of one's eye.
