EVENT | LANDFALL | VALISHAERA

Characters: ALL!
Date: JULY 13-26
Location: Valishaera
Situation: Tu Vishan has made landfall on Siaxhi, to explore the Dreaming Watch City of Valishaera.
Warnings/Rating: Please indicate content warnings in subject headers as applicable.

As Tu Vishan draws near, the heavy jungle visible even from miles out quickly identifies the landmass as Siaxhi, one of the westernmost continents in Konryu and one that has been largely untouched insofar as the kedan themselves have gone. There is a natural inlet along the southeast shore on the continent and Tu Vishan makes for that, though he fills nearly all of it.

Not so much, actually. Or English, really. The books I've found here, well, book, was actually in part french and part something else. It was odd, really. How it shifted. Some of the words one of my friends used, talking about events in it were on the pages, then a different language and...

I do think, perhaps, we read things in the language we are born with when it comes to these books. I WOULD very much like to be able to do more in the local language though.

[He's nodding to the papers he's placed near himself.]

I've had some thought about it...a paper for our going's on might do some good.

[She knew very well what that was like. Until a short while ago, Midii had been struggling so much with the lack of French that she had been studying English. Damian had been teaching her. When he left, she tried to keep up with her studies.]

I wonder why it translates now.

Written words over the network never did.

[Then he mentioned something about a 'paper']

Do you mean, like a newsletter of some kind?

I think it may be something to do with the nature of this place.

[There is a little shrug from Enjolras.] I spoke with one of the monks earlier. It seems as though this is a realm of dreaming. A conscious sort, though, I've been through a few of them before. Perhaps that is why. Something to do with the power of our minds in the dream, maybe?

And yes, a newspaper. I would very much like to start one, to tell our stories while we are here, to allow for new foreigners to see what is going on. There was a radio program once, I believe but nothing in print.

[And here, Enjolras does look a little excited at the thought. After all, it would be a return to something familiar now that everything else had gone.]

[The Realm of Dreaming]

[Midii had known this when she crossed through the barrier, but there was something about the way Enjolras said it that really clicked. A Dream. They were...in a waking dream.]

Is it possible our subconscious is influencing what we see, then?

[To translate any and all written words into a language their brains actually knew.]
solo_patria: (canony: flag)

[personal profile] solo_patria 2014-07-31 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
I think that it is, yes.

[Enjolras may not know much about Dreams themselves, as opposed to dreams but even so, he's nodding now.]

The last time that I walked through a dream, it was not pleasant. It consisted of both my nightmares and a nightmare of my companions. But we were able to assist each other.

[Or to try, in his case. He'd been taken out pretty quickly by the guards in Richard's castle.]

I've even found objects in them that have their permanence. I think this is something of the same. She did warn me to be careful, the monk I spoke with. But I do still wonder if we might manipulate SOME things in here.
unetrustworthy: (you make a good point)

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2014-07-31 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
[She would prefer not to live her own past Dream experience, either. They had been just barely worse than the actual dreams haunting her sleep the first several months after her arrival in Keelai.]

What monk?
solo_patria: (canony: fighting)

[personal profile] solo_patria 2014-07-31 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
[For Enjolras, his own subconscious had created a nightmare then that was worse than anything he'd come here with. The barricade, made out of bodies of his friends...it was too much to think of, really.]

Ah, I did not actually get her name. She was dark haired and we talked a little about this realm and some of the things it does. And warned me to be careful when it comes to dreams and Dreams. Some of the rules are very different.
unetrustworthy: (leaning)

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2014-07-31 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[The description was too vague. Dark haired could have described so many women. Maybe even someone she had never met.]

Different from normal dreams, or different from the real world?
solo_patria: (canony: sad looking)

[personal profile] solo_patria 2014-08-01 08:52 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, from normal dreams in this case. I beleive it to mean, given that she mentioned being very careful here that Dreams like this one we are a part of now, could, if we are not careful, be somewhat harmful to us. I would guess that means an effect that could last in the real world, somehow.

[It's clearly simply a guess, by the tone of his voice there.]

After all, some of those things from the Dream planes elsewhere have done so, yes?

unetrustworthy: (pic#6421347)

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2014-08-02 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[Her lips pressed together in a thin line.]

I know.

I didn't go in myself, but the last time...that bottle world...I heard all about it.
solo_patria: (canony: fighting)

[personal profile] solo_patria 2014-08-03 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, that one. I actually went along for it. I think...I am still trying to make sense of everything within it. There have been others too, my first time at a landfall was...we stumbled into dream worlds then as well. Nightmare ones, in fact. [His brow is furrowing a bit with the memory becoming clearer to him now.]

I would hope that these are not so personal, and not so much of our own mind's makings. I saw a perversion of the greatest thing I've ever done, then. And a friend moved through his own worst nightmare. I can only hope that the experience this time proves to be less... [Horrific...] difficult.
unetrustworthy: (sorrow)

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2014-08-03 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[She nodded grimly.]

Those, I remember. I was in them too.
solo_patria: (canony: let others rise)

[personal profile] solo_patria 2014-08-04 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Were you? Then I am sorry to hear that.

[His own expression grew a little grim as he imagined what she might have faced, given what she's said of her world just now.]

I do think I trust the people here a little more, if nothing else. That could make these realms useful.
unetrustworthy: (pic#6421343)

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2014-08-04 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Is that why you want to create some sort of...you said newspaper?

[She hadn't forgotten, even with the sidetracking of the conversation.]
solo_patria: (canony: flag)

[personal profile] solo_patria 2014-08-04 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Ah those reasons are a little different, I admit. [Enjolras does smile as it comes to those.]

I think that a paper might help to bind us all closer together, for one. Things like sending reporters out to gather information on events, or even the people here. The press is one of the greatest ways, at home, to spread a message, and to find support. I am not certain it will work here, it only seems worth the try.

Having everything important, and even what is only interesting in print may also help those who come here after us, if they should do so. And, well." There is a little duck of his head there and then he's smiling, the same way someone might when speaking of somebody that they love deeply.

"I rather miss it, in general. It is...one thing from home that I can replicate, I think, in experience at least." In the rest, well, not so much.

unetrustworthy: (inquisitive)

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2014-08-04 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
[Meaning he must have been some sort of newspaper man in his home world. A person who spread information to others. She loved the idea instantly, save for one small detail:]

What languages can you write in? The network only translates when we speak.
solo_patria: (sc 6: girls are scary!)

[personal profile] solo_patria 2014-08-04 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
[At least, he worked as one and had hoped to settle in the career after finishing with his law degree to satisfy his parents. Not that Enjolras had put much effort into that degree when there were other questions that mattered more to him than learning, and upholding, a legal system he did not agree with. In any case, the education did supply him with an easy reference for everything, exactly, that was wrong in the world.

It was simply more the matter of him attending class when he had other work to do that created something of the problem. Granted, he'd absorbed enough he could have sat the bar, which happens when you keep company with creatures like a Bahorel, but drawing out the process had given him a good excuse to stay in Paris for as long as he had managed it, and set him up well for the work of social justice and rebellion, and chronicling the issues for the masses. It was where Enjolras had truly felt alive, at least. Of course, that detail WAS the problem.]

Ah, exactly why I have been asking for volunteers in those areas. Greek, I could manage, and perhaps Latin, but anything other than those or French is a large part of my problem. I've run into it in the hospital too.

[this is when something is occurring to him and he's making a bit of a face.]

And what an idiot I am. During the festival, recently, Asti himself offered those of us caring for the hatchings a boon. I ought to have asked him for another language.

[Facepalm? Oh definitely.]
unetrustworthy: (pic#6421348)

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2014-08-04 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
[It was almost funny how he brought up Asti and the boon. Midii even smiled.]

I did.

He gave me the ability to understand both English and the local language.
solo_patria: (canony: do you hear)

[personal profile] solo_patria 2014-08-04 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
[Catching the smile at that, Enjolras was a bit surprised, seeing an expression like that on her face, but then, soon enough, her reasons became clear and he found himself smiling back.]

Did you, indeed? This makes things infinitely better if I might hire you on some sort of translation basis.

[Not that he's figured out compensation. Like at all. This is gonna be amazing, clearly.]
unetrustworthy: (pic#6421339)

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2014-08-04 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
[There were few things in Keelai that would make her genuinely happy these days, but being able to admit knowing something others didn't? Pretty high up there.]

[...not in the sense that she could lord it over him, per say, but to feel useful. That had always been the hardest part about it all. Trying to find her place in the world. Back home, she had existed to care for her family. Doing what she did to make sure they would survive, even if she didn't. But here, Midii lived only for herself. Except she had been summoned to help. They must have chosen her for a reason, right?]

I could do that.

A lot of the people here seem to speak mostly English. There are other languages, but besides French, the two most common I've heard are English and Japanese, which I've been fluent in since I was young.
solo_patria: (Default)

[personal profile] solo_patria 2014-08-04 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
[Pride in something like that, particularly when it could be useful, was the sort of thing that Enjolras would never have considered wrong, but instead, a useful talent to be used for the good of all. Well, of course, if the one with the talent wished to share it. He was becoming aware, somewhat, of how his phrasing these sorts of statements could come out to be somewhat demanding to those who did not know him well.

Keeping that in mind meant that he amended things sometimes, even when they were only thoughts. It was not that he meant to sound like something of a dictator himself, merely that he got ahead of the social niceties sometimes, though he was working to improve that.]

That would be wonderful. I've had a few people step up already, so it seems like we can develop a strong team along the way.

[It was an excellent prospect for him at least.]
unetrustworthy: (lounging)

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2014-08-04 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Who else have you spoken to about it?

[Just in case she recognize any of the names.]
solo_patria: (Default)

[personal profile] solo_patria 2014-08-04 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
A young lady called Hayley and a few others. We've amassed quite the variety of languages I think. So far, so good, really.
unetrustworthy: (lip biting)

[personal profile] unetrustworthy 2014-08-04 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hayley. She knew the name, in the sense that she recognized it. One from over the Networks. Regarding personal connections, however, she was coming up empty.]

Do we know how many languages actually exist? On the chance we accidentally leave somebody out, it might be a good idea to ask.
solo_patria: (canony: do you hear)

[personal profile] solo_patria 2014-08-05 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
I had considered something of a poll, actually. I would hate for too many people to be left out of a first edition just because we did not know what languages they spoke.

[Enjolras either, really. He'd simply asked for his volunteers and was continuing to plan to run from something like that. It may not be the worst business strategy ever, but it was far from the best. He'd been too long in planning strategies that were not written down, and that were subject to change in the details for too long, really. Thinking like an editor and like a reporter, or like an editor and a leader of a revolutionary society were incredibly different things though, weren't they?]

I think that I have a LOT to learn about these things, still.
