Situation: Tu Vishan has made landfall on Siaxhi, to explore the Dreaming Watch City of Valishaera.
Warnings/Rating: Please indicate content warnings in subject headers as applicable.

As Tu Vishan draws near, the heavy jungle visible even from miles out quickly identifies the landmass as Siaxhi, one of the westernmost continents in Konryu and one that has been largely untouched insofar as the kedan themselves have gone. There is a natural inlet along the southeast shore on the continent and Tu Vishan makes for that, though he fills nearly all of it.

[(Ah yes, a good solid base for a new relationship: stubborn denial. This is going to go so well.)]

Oh, um, okay. [Tony hadn't really expected Gene to take him up on that.] Well, then, uh, come in, I guess.

[He leaves the armor in the foyer and walks to the kitchen, trying to stay quiet. His roommates are almost certainly asleep.

All the ingredients are, of course, not quite what they're used to, but with a lot of shopping and taste-testing, Tony has managed to scrounge up passable equivalents of milk, cocoa powder, and marshmallows. He starts heating up the milk, watching Gene out of the corner of his eye.]

[Tony no! Don't invite him in! That's how archnemeses get free license to enter your house! ...I'm being told that's actually vampires, not archnemeses.

Gene's not up to anything suspicious, though, just standing in one place, looking around, his hands jammed into his pockets and his shoulders practically up around his ears. He still feels like he's being tested.]

Nice place you've got here, [he says quietly after a moment.]

I guess? Thanks? [It's pretty much just like all the other Metal Sector suites. Is this small-talk? Tony's terrible at small talk.

He starts stirring in the chocolate.] You can sit down, if you want.

[Why did he suggest this? This is so weird. So weird.]

[He's never actually been in a Metal Sector suite before. And gosh, Tony, he's trying to be nice.]

Um...no. It's okay. I'll stand for now.

[They never used to be like this. And Gene feels acutely - for neither the first nor last time - just how much has changed between them.

He's not sure why he feels compelled to stand. Maybe deep down it's fear - he's learned well never to be seated when someone's angry with him, and things are just tense enough in here that he would prefer not to.]

Well, I'm sitting, [Tony declares, walking over to the table with two steaming mugs (both brimming with marshmallows).] I'm tired.

[He sets the mugs down and flops into a chair.] They're alright. They're both from the same universe. They say they're descended from gods. Like, the old-school Greek gods. Apparently in their universe they're real. And from the sound of it, they get around a lot. [Tony yawns, and takes a sip of his hot chocolate.]

[Okay. Tony is sitting. This means it's okay for Gene to sit now, too. Yes, that's not a normal way to react. Yes, he knows this. He sits in a chair facing Tony, picking up his own mug.]

No kidding, [he says, interested. Man, other universes sure are weird! Though really, he's not surprised at the number of children of the Greek gods. Mythology had always interested him. Now he knows why.]

Did you ever meet Temeraire? The dragon? He used to occupy half of my building. [Gene looks at his mug, hands curled around it. Why are there so many marshmallows?]

A dragon? [Tony looks at Gene over his mug, eyes wide.] So, not the alien space-conquering kind, or the giant living evil statue kind - like, a real live wings-and-firebreathing dragon? Was your roommate?

[wrathfulkhan]

[That makes Gene laugh. Honestly, he'd gotten used to it.] Yeah. Actually, he was the first person to talk to me on the network. It was, uh, a shock. Didn't expect that in the least.

He didn't breathe fire, though. He had some sort of...sonic attack. Called it the Divine Wind.

Dragons using computers. Why am I even surprised? This place is nuts, [Tony says, for like, the millionth time.]

Sonic attacks are pretty useful, [he muses.] I mean, fire's cool, but it's not very flexible. [A dragon with its own natural sonic canons? Now Tony's disappointed that he didn't get to meet him.] So, he... left, or disappeared, or whatever? Got pulled back into his own world? Or did he just move out?

no tony. not sonic attacks. that way lies badness. and stane.

[wrathfulkhan]

[Gene frowns, looking down at his slowly melting marshmallows.] He disappeared. [Everyone disappears. Bianca. Loki. Temeraire. Joly.

Everyone leaves him, which is why he'd started leaving people first.]

[Gene had sounded almost happy for a second there, but now he looks dejected again.] Oh. Um, sorry. [Tony takes another sip of almost-cocoa to hide his confusion and discomfort. Now he doesn't know what to talk about.]

...Do you like the hot chocolate? [he asks nervously.]

[Gene shrugs. Crap as it is, he's used to it now, sort of.] It's okay. Maybe he'll come back.

Uh... [OH RIGHT IT'S FOR DRINKING NOT STARING INTO IT WISTFULLY. He picks up the mug and has a sip.

Holy shit where has this stuff been hiding all his life.] Yeah! It's really good. [He will punch bears for this.]

Right, [Tony agrees, with somewhat forced optimism. People do come back sometimes, he knows. He just doesn't know how common it is. But hey, maybe with things heating up with Malicant, they'll start pulling back in the old recruits.

And the hot chocolate is a success!] I do wish we had real chocolate, though, [he says wistfully.] But the marshmallows are great. I just... learned a lot more than I wanted to know about how marshmallows are made. [Finding a kedan confectioner who could make him marshmallows was a very... informative adventure. Did you know that marshmallows are made with gelatin? And did you know that gelatin is made from leftover animal parts? Yum.]

[wrathfulkhan]

[What, you don't like learning about the abattoir in your chocolaty drink, Tony?] Do me a favor and don't go into details, [Gene says lightly, and eats one.]

Real chocolate would be nice, [he says, sounding wistful.] And real pizza. [The other Stark - one of them, the one he actually liked - had made a game attempt, but it just hadn't been the same.]

I promise, I'll keep the marshmallow secrets secret. [He doesn't want to think about it any more than necessary anyway.]

Real coffee, [Tony says with feeling, adding to Gene's list of Earth delicacies. How is he supposed to power through marathon lab sessions without coffee? Alien tea just doesn't cut it.]

Real coffee, [Gene agrees. Amelia had come up trumps with something that was almost, but not entirely, quite unlike coffee. But it was the closest they'd found.

He takes another long sip of his hot chocolate-ish and sets his mug back down.]

Thank you, [he says, quietly.]

Yeah, sure, [Tony mumbles, maintaining long, intense eye-contact with his marshmallows.] Don't mention it.

[Like, seriously, don't. Things are awkward enough as it is. Tony's already had to cope with Actually-Not-Trying-To-Murder-Him Gene and Crying Gene tonight, both of which were - to put it mildly - unexpected. He really wouldn't know what to do with Grateful Gene.]

[And just like that, he's back to tsun. Baka.] Okay, then I won't.

[A joke? A bad joke? Wooowww. Wow.] So, anything else you miss from home? Maybe I can point you at a reasonable substitute. [Helpful Gene is probably not usual either. Oops.]

[Ugh, Fine, Gene, be that way. Tony's too tired to even be annoyed by that mildly passive-aggressive barb. Instead of reacting, he finishes off his hot chocolate and thinks about Gene's question.

He sets the empty mug aside and flops down on the table, chin resting on his crossed arms.] My music, [he finally decides.] I have my pod, but two-thirds of my stuff was on the cloud, [he says mournfully.

A moment of silence for all his lab playlists, now lost in the void between dimensions.]

[This is why you shouldn't trust the cloud, Tony! That, and you get your personal pictures leaked to 4chan.

Gene drinks some more of his hot chocolate while Tony thinks.] Well, maybe you'll find your laptop or something somewhere, [he says, not unkindly.] Things from home have a way of...turning up. Like you probably noticed.

[HA. HA HA. JOKE. FUNNY JOKE. CHRIST. JUST KILL HIM.]

[Are you kidding? Roberta would burn 4chan to the ground. Not even 4chan could withstand the legal fury of Roberta Rhodes.]

That would be... weird. [Amelia found the Legacy and Gene found the tenth ring, but both were of great personal significance to their owners as well as powerful artifacts in their own right. Finding his laptop would seem rather... mundane. Anticlimactic, even.]

...What if I wish really, really hard for the Large Hadron Collider?

Gene dares to smile, a little bit.] Stranger things have happened. [Like, oh, say, all of tonight.]

[Tony actually manages a small chuckle.] Cool. Well, keep an eye out for it, in case it shows up. It's a big underground tunnel, circular, about seventeen miles long. Lots of magnets. You can't miss it.

[wrathfulkhan]

Pretty sure we'll notice that if it shows up here, [Gene says with a grin, and finishes his hot chocolate. Dawn is properly beginning to break outside, and little chirpy bastards birds are chirping away.]

[Tony's reply is interrupted by a huge yawn, and he has to blink vigorously to keep his eyes from sliding closed. Nothing like a warm chocolatey drink and staying up till dawn to make you sleepy. He's about to fall asleep right here at the kitchen table.]
