Kaine crouches low to the ground and leans over the cliff as he peers at the landscape below them. He isn't too worried about placing himself in such a precarious position--thanks to being a clone of Parker, his balance was second to none, and on the offhanded chance he actually happens to lose his balance, he can easily cling to the surface of the cliff and crawl back up.
"Fog. Fog fog and more fog. Oh wait. And trees. Can't forget the trees."
The idea to get up high for a vantage point was a good one, but with all the fog settling in the gully, it seemed like it's for nothing. There's no way he could see anything through that...
And then he has an idea. Still leaning precariously over the edge, he lifts his hands off the ground and reaches up to hold his temples, as if he had been struck by a sudden migraine. He screws his eyes shut, and reaches out, hoping that they're actually--aha! Spiders. He sees through their eyes, feels what they feel, and just like that, the fog is gone in his minds eye.
Just as he begins to get a good idea of what's beneath the fog, something rushes towards one of the spiders he's reaching out to. The thin hairless... thing rushes towards something just beyond the spider's sight, crushing it underfoot without ever seeing it. The shock (and transmitted fear shot back at him by the spider in question) causes him to fall backwards (luckily away from the cliff) and he loses his connection with all of the others.
"What the fuck was that?!"
no subject
"Gee, thanks," he barks dryly. "And to think I almost forgot about the trees. Smart ass."
Then the kid's grabbing his head like it's about to explode, which is pretty worrying when you're perched dangerously close to a very steep drop, and you've left the rest of the guys back in the woods somewhere.
"...Kid?" He asks hesitantly, reaching out to touch his shoulder to make sure he's okay.
A second before the touch connects, it's like an invisible lance of energy comes out of nowhere, pitching the kid backward into the underbrush.
"Jeez!" Hellboy yells, lunging forward to try to stop the guy from taking a nasty tumble down the hill. He crouches, bracing that giant stone hand against his back. "Don't tell me you're a God damn psychic."
no subject
"No. Not exactly. I can... talk to spiders." This guy's older. Hopefully he's not going to assume he's some sort of Disney princess like Aracely did. Hopefully. "One of them just got crushed by some sort of anorexic flying rat."
no subject
Considering some of the freaky powers a handful of people had at the Bureau? Being some kind of spider-kid doesn't even seem that far out there. But still...
"That's..." He trails, straightening back to his full height and flicking some ash off his cigarette. "I guess that's something."
Better than a damn psychic. He hates psychics.
no subject
"Yeah yeah, not my first choice either but it's what I got. Move on."
Watch your mouth. His sort-of-it's-complicated kid's a psychic. Sort of. It's complicated.
no subject
The rat, and seeing the thing via being psychically linked to a spider, but hey, who's counting.
Hellboy's in seriously no position to talk about getting to choose anything. So he's a little touchy about his powers. He understands that. It can be a hard thing to cope with.
But that's not something he's gonna dwell on. Instead, he pops his cigarette back in his mouth and pulls out his gun, keeping it pointed at the ground, double-checking to see if the thing's still loaded.
"I'm thinking we should head down there, see what we can stir up."
no subject
"Fine, at this rate I'll punch anything. I'll meet you down there."
And then he jumps off the cliff. Don't worry, he'll be fine. After all, he doesn't just talk to spiders. Come find him, won't you?
no subject
He's not all that surprised that Kane drops off the cliff. Hardly even flinches. The kid has special talents, as the Bureau would call them, and seems pretty sure of himself.
Though hopefully the he's not too confident. In situations like this, that can come back to bite you in the ass.
Now alone at the top of the cliff, Hellboy squints into the fog where his companion disappeared, and takes a long draw off his cigarette.
"Sure."
It'll take Hellboy a lot longer to follow suit. The cliff is dizzyingly steep, and he's big and not all that agile for things like this. The first few dozen feet or so he manages fine using tangles of roots as footholds, grabbing onto the crooked little trees growing here and there along the way.
He makes it down about halfway before one of the branches he was holding onto snaps, leaving him scrambling for a foothold as the unstable earth crumbles to marbles beneath his feet.
"Crap."
And now he's falling, sliding like an avalanche down the hill, still pawing at the dirt with his right hand as he skids to a stop at the bottom.
no subject
"How Graceful. I give it a 7.5 out of 10."
Kaine, for his part, is hanging horizontally from a nearby tree, as if that's totally normal.
no subject
That giant spiderweb, though. That he's not too fond of.
He steps out of the mess, brushing off his coat and trying to kick free of the sticky stuff as he walks. He hardly looks bruised, and doesn't seem too bothered by the kid's new horizontal outlook on life, either.
"Tough crowd," he rumbles. "Thought I'd get an 8, at least"
