"You're just spouting gibberish at this point aren't you?" None of what Wan says even sound like a thing to Hawke? Polar bear dog? Maker, Hawke doesn't even know what a polar bear is. A bear that happens to be made of poles? And he doesn't even want to know what a platypus bear is. Why isn't Merril here? Hawke feels certain that she can translate this for him.

"Trust me, he's just a dog. The only goat in him are the ones he eats." Who in their right mind wants to crossbreed a goat and a dog anyway? Hawke imagines that union must look horrifying.

Even Notch appears to be confused by all of this. The dog turns his head back towards Hawke as in searching for answers. All Hawke can offer though is an equally confused shrug.

One thing is for certain. Both of them are utterly distracted right now.
raavashing: (huh: turned around)

Wan raised an eyebrow and shook his head, "No. Those are all animals common to my world. I don't think I've ever seen just a 'dog' before."

"Mabari dog," Wan murmured as his eyes drifted to Notch again, studying him. "I mean, I can see dog influences in him, so he's obviously a dog-something. But I've never seen an a dog animal that was just dog and nothing else. Of course, I haven't seen all the animals in the world, so it's entirely possible they exist. But if he's just a dog why is he also a mabari?"

Animal breeds are also not something he's familiar with.
iwannabeadragon: (Well isn't that just fantastic...)

"Congratulations, you've seen one know," Hawke replies with a smirk. "Welcome to Keeliai. You're going to see lots of weird things here."

Notch snorts at the implication that he is even the slightest bit weird. Hawke rolls his eyes at the dog. "Oh you know what I mean don't get your tail in a twist." Wan isn't the only one that talks to Notch like he's addressing a person. Of course Hawke's the only one that knows Notch actually understands him.

"Because mabari is just a breed. Just like a sparrow is different from a raven." Hawke bets ten sovereigns Wan won't know what either of those are either though. How do you explain such a simple concept to someone when they don't have a clue what you're saying in the first place?
raavashing: (smile: I will carry you with me)

Bear no longer looks like a word to me.

[personal profile] raavashing 2014-07-21 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Then he's a mabari-dog," Wan said with a nod, sort of understanding. "Like a platypus-bear or an armadillo-bear, or a skunk-bear. Different kinds of bear animals."

He stood up, still scratching Notch's ears, "I bet you're one of the finest mabari-dogs there are. I can just tell."
iwannabeadragon: (Damn I'm awesome)

Bear bear bear bear baer bawr baar IT'S SPREADING

[personal profile] iwannabeadragon 2014-07-21 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
At this point Hawke just gives up on explanations all together. Neither of them are making any progress right now and it just sounds like Wan is putting random words together at this point. "You know what, that's close enough," Hawke says sounding almost defeated.

Notch perks up with the compliment. Even if that entire conversation left the dog confused he knows when he's being praised. That's good enough for him.
raavashing: (smile: Said goodbye)

[personal profile] raavashing 2014-07-21 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"So what's his name?" Wan finally asked, after realizing the mabari-dog's name had not once been mentioned to him. Normally that wasn't an issue, but it seemed unfair to be talking to him for that long and not know his name.

iwannabeadragon: (I r hero)

[personal profile] iwannabeadragon 2014-07-21 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Notch," Hawke answers. Notch replies with a small woof, confirming his own name. Funny how people always seem to turn so pleasant the moment that a dog is around. Hawke likes to think of it as Notch's unique brand of magic.

"Careful, he's a lot smarter than he looks," Hawke pauses a moment and grins. "Unless he's hungry. Then he's exactly as smart as he looks."

Notch turns his head back towards Hawke and growls. His smile just grows wider.
raavashing: (smile: turned around)

[personal profile] raavashing 2014-07-22 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Wan laughed and shook his head, "That assumes I thought he looked dumber than he is. I didn't and I don't. I know a lot of humans are like that, but I've lived with spirits and animals enough to learn better. He's got very intelligent eyes."
iwannabeadragon: (Are you shitting me?)

[personal profile] iwannabeadragon 2014-07-22 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Spirits? Oh Maker, here we go with this again," Hawke mutters softly. Outside Jack, Hawke's not sure if he's had a single good experience where spirits are concerned. Then again he's only really had two in his life. The rest have just been demons.

"You didn't happen to, say, let any of them possess you did you?" Knowing Hawke's luck there's about a 50-50 shot the answer will be yes.
raavashing: (Neutral: For a little touch)

[personal profile] raavashing 2014-07-23 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that was an odd question to jump to. Wan straightened, raising an eyebrow. He had actually let one posses him, but the way Hawke had muttered before asking that, he was feeling a little wary about just saying so.

"Why do you ask?" Wan's answering question was cautious, suspicious, "And how familiar are you with spirits?"
iwannabeadragon: (Well isn't that just fantastic...)

[personal profile] iwannabeadragon 2014-07-24 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
If only Wan knew what Hawke had been through. Then the question wouldn't be odd at all. Hawke feels far more comfortable blaming things like spirits and demons for the troubles he dealt with in Kirkwall than the actual mages. That said, he readily admits more than a handful were out of their minds, but so were most people in Kirkwall.

Hawke already braces himself for hearing something he doesn't want to hear. "More than I ever wanted to be," Hawke answers while rubbing his temples.
raavashing: (neutral: It's a harder way)

[personal profile] raavashing 2014-07-24 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"That doesn't tell me anything," Wan said, putting a hand on one hip. "I don't know how different the spirits you're familiar with are from the ones in my world. Though they can possess humans, doing so will usually kill the human within seconds. And if they don't stay long enough to kill the human, the possession usually changes the human's body in some obvious, physical way. Most spirits and humans don't interact at all. Spirits generally look down on humans and humans generally fear the spirits. They keep to their own settlements and ignore or avoid each other as much as possible."

He tilted his head, "But to answer your question, yes, I have been possessed by a spirit before. It was not a regular spirit and because of her, I'm not a regular human anymore, either. Will that be a problem?"

iwannabeadragon: (I'm sorry was that your dog?)

[personal profile] iwannabeadragon 2014-07-25 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
The more Wan talks the more Hawke's stomach sinks. All of this sounds almost exactly the same word for word. Wan's casualness about the entire situation worries Hawke even more. The only difference being demons seek mages to corrupt. Then again, Justice was supposed to be just a spirit and that turned out horribly.

"Yeah, that sounds about right," Hawke says with a sigh. "Just, try staying away from explosives. And churches." Here's just one more thing that Hawke will be watching and worrying about.
raavashing: (huh: 'til our last days)

[personal profile] raavashing 2014-07-25 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Wan raised an eyebrow, "What's a churches?"

He didn't need to stay away from explosives. Because really, he was explosive. And as much as he wondered about the request, he was more curious what that second thing was. And also:

"Why should I stay away from them?"
iwannabeadragon: (Get lost in my beard)

[personal profile] iwannabeadragon 2014-07-26 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"If you don't know then it's a lot less likely you'll end up blowing one up," Hawke says, avoiding the question entirely.

Wan might not be Anders but it's better safe than sorry. This is the closest to paranoid Hawke comes. Hawke has never once seen this story end well. Somehow though, he seems to find himself surrounded by people that would send most in Thedas running away screaming.

Now that attention is no longer being paid to Notch, the hound trots to Hawke and sits at his side.
raavashing: (huh: Calling me back in time)

[personal profile] raavashing 2014-07-27 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm not the kind of person who goes around blowing most things up," Wan said with a deadpan look. "Goes against this whole peace and balance thing that I'm really, really into right now. But thanks for the vote of confidence."
iwannabeadragon: (Get lost in my beard)

[personal profile] iwannabeadragon 2014-07-27 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Wan receives an equally deadpan look right back at him. Don't try to get smarky with him Wan. Hawke is the reigning kind of snark where he comes from. "No need to thank me. Keeping people from doing stupid things is something of a hobby of mine."

One that Hawke utterly fails at but he still tries. Maybe one day it will actually work.
raavashing: (Smile: I will see you again)

[personal profile] raavashing 2014-07-27 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"And yet you're heading off to explore an unknown forest with unknown dangers all alone instead of following the map we've been given," Wan raised an eyebrow. Then he smirked, "Maybe you should practice your stopping stupid things technique on yourself for a bit. Since it's your hobby and all."
iwannabeadragon: (I r hero)

[personal profile] iwannabeadragon 2014-07-28 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Alone?" Hawke quirks an eyebrow at Wan in return. "I've got all the backup I could ever need." He jabs his thumb at Notch who lifts his head proudly. His small tail wags back and forth kicking up dirt.

"Besides, I know exactly what I'm doing."
raavashing: (action: But I needed one more touch)

[personal profile] raavashing 2014-07-28 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Wan's eyes flicked to Notch and he shook his head, silently admitting he had overlooked the very competent dog in his effort to out-snark the 'king' of snark.

"I'm sure you do," he said with a resigned sigh as he lifted a hand to wave, "But so do I. So don't worry about me doing something stupid. Worry about yourself."

He turned his attention to Notch, "You're clearly the more sensible of the two, so you be careful and watch his back. See you later."
iwannabeadragon: (I r hero)

[personal profile] iwannabeadragon 2014-07-28 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"If I don't worry about everyone doing something stupid then who will?" Hawke replies with a clever smirk before finally turning to leave. Notch stays a moment longer to woof at Wan before he follows after Hawke.

"More sensible of the two eh?" Hawke asks Notch as they leave. "Clearly he hasn't seen you chew on your rear end for hours on end."

The hound doesn't even dignify that with a response, but Hawke finds himself grinning anyway.
